CHAPTER 495: MORNING PREPARATION
The morning slowly arrived, the sky gradually brightening as the sun peeked over the horizon.
The soft light of dawn creeped in through Coco’s window, casting a gentle glow over the room as the new day began— as usual, the air was still and quiet, the only disruption being the occasional rustle of the curtains in the slight breeze and the chirp of birds outside.
Coco was one of the first to stir awake, her body instinctively waking up at the crack of dawn due to the excitement she felt before she fell asleep.
She sat up slowly, stretching and yawning softly before beaming. "I just know that today will be a good day!"
Coco followed her daily routine, efficiently going through her morning routine with ease and once she was done, she exited her room, followed closely by Konoha and Lala.
Coco yawned again, still feeling a little groggy, but excited to start the day.
Lala let out a sleepy hum as she settled herself on Coco’s hair, her tiny form looking like she could fall asleep at any moment.
Konoha, on the other hand, emitted a soft mewl, letting Coco know that she’s right behind her.
Coco took their noises as affirmation, smiling at the duo, and with a quiet laugh, she began making her way down the stairs, her footsteps quiet and steady.
It was still early in the morning so the house was relatively quiet, the others likely still fast asleep or already starting their morning routine.
However, as Coco turned towards the kitchen, her gaze fell upon the scene before her— there stood Kairo and Heiren, both busy with different tasks, directly letting her know that not everyone is fast asleep.
Kairo was carefully packing lunches, his hands moving swiftly and efficiently as he prepared the meals.
Heiren, on the other hand, poured hot cocoa into Coco’s designated mug, the steaming liquid filling the mug to the brim with the warm, comforting beverage.
The aroma of the cocoa wafted through the air, its rich scent making Coco’s mouth water.
Kairo looked up from the lunches he was packing, his face blank and when he noticed Coco, he nodded his head in acknowledgment.
"Good morning, Coco." He said in a soft, almost monotone voice.
His words were brief, yet it was clear that he was quite happy to see her, his eyes briefly meeting Coco’s with a bright glint before he continued with his task.
Heiren perked up at the sound of Coco’s name leaving Kairo’s lips, his attention shifting from the mug on his hand.
With the mug of steaming hot cocoa in hand, he turned around and his face lit up with a wide smile, his brown eyes twinkling with delight.
"Wife!" He exclaimed, his voice filled with affection. "Good morning!"
His cheerful greeting was a big difference to Kairo’s brief acknowledgment, but Coco found the difference endearing.
The brightness in the mediator’s eyes and the happiness in his tone were evident as he approached Coco, offering the freshly poured mug of cocoa.
Coco’s heart fluttered at the sight of Heiren’s cheerful smile, her face softening slightly in response to his infectious energy.
A content smile spread across her face as she greeted the two of them. "Good morning, Kairo, Heiren,I see you two are up and about early.. Did you two sleep well?"
Heiren continued to grin widely, his enthusiasm clear as he handed Coco the mug of freshly poured hot cocoa.
"Yes!" he affirmed, his voice exuding optimism. "Oh, and take this, please."
Then, his statement was followed by his excitement. "I’m excited about the interview.. Even if there’s no guarantee that I’ll get the job, it’s definitely something to look forward to!"
Coco accepted the mug from Heiren and quickly took a sip from her cocoa, a contented sigh escaping her lips.
"Mmm~ that’s a good drink, as always," she remarked, her voice filled with appreciation. "Thank you so much, Heiren. You’re really amazing, you know?"
However, she quickly added a gentle, but firm reminder. "Anyway, I have a lot of missions waiting for me today, so we have to leave soon."
"What? Why so early?" Heiren inquired, a look of surprise crossing his feature.
"Well, I need money.. And to get that, we need to be ready to leave in no more than ten minutes.." Coco stated with a matter of fact tone. "Besides, the guildmaster might be waiting for us as well."
Heiren perked up at Coco’s words and nodded his head in understanding, ready to move.
He turned in his heels and focused his attention on Kairo, who had just finished packing the lunches and placed them carefully into a bag, then he lifted the bag effortlessly, indicating that they were indeed ready to go.
"I got it." He informed the second husband, his voice steady and calm. "We can leave now."
Coco let out a lighthearted laugh, appreciating the efficiency of their preparation, her lips curling into a lopsided smile.
"Alright, you two." She mused, her voice carrying a tone of amusement. "Let’s get going, then?"
With those words, she turned and started walking towards the door, signaling for Kairo and Heiren to follow suit.
However, Coco was just about to exit the door when she suddenly remembered something important and halted in her tracks, turning to face Heiren.
"Hold on." She said, her tone dripping with concern. "What about Zaque’s, Alhai’s, and Quizen’s meals?"
The thought that they had nearly left without considering breakfast for the others made Coco worried— she doesn’t want them to be left out just because Heiren and Kairo are about to get employed.
Fortunately, Heiren waved his hand to dismiss her worry. "I already cooked something for them."
"I left them a note by the cabinet just in case." Kairo added, his eyes staring directly at Coco’s. "Don’t worry, Coco. Your husband is very meticulous with these meals."
"Hey now." Heiren chastised gently. "I was just saying that we shouldn’t leave them to starve."
"You just proved my point."
