New World with Four Husbands
Chapter 496: Interruption
CHAPTER 496: INTERRUPTION
Coco, followed by Kairo and Heiren, walked through the guild’s door— the sound of the door opening caught the attention of everyone in the lobby.
As they entered, the early risers of the guild looked up from whatever they were doing, their eyes falling upon the trio.
Some glanced curiously in their direction, some raised an eyebrow at the sight of the famous hunter with two beautiful mediators trailing behind her while others simply acknowledged her presence with a nod or a brief wave.
Of course, Coco returned their greeting with a nod and wave of her own.
The three of them made their way to the staircase, ready to ascend to the second floor to get to the guildmaster’s office when Coco suddenly heard someone calling out her name from across the lobby.
"Coco!"
The voice echoed, the sound carrying through the room and reaching her ears.
She stopped in her tracks, turning towards the source of the call, her attention focused on the owner of the voice.
Coco caught sight of both Lukas and Myra, their expressions showing surprise as they quickly approached, their gazes briefly flickering towards Kairo and Heiren, taking note of the presence of the two before they focused their attention back on Coco.
Lukas was the first to close the distance quickly, his eyes wide with surprise as he looked at Kairo and Heiren behind Coco.
"Are these your husbands?" The beast asked, gesturing towards Kairo and Heiren with a large grin stretched across his face. "Are they going to work here from now on?"
Coco stared at him and sighed, her expression becoming slightly exasperated at Lukas’ question.
"This lovely mediator is my husband." She introduced Heiren with a smile, addressing him affectionately. "His name is Heiren Hughes. Be nice to him, alright?"
"This other lovely mediator is my friend." She stated as she addressed the second part of Lukas’s question. "His name is Kairo, but don’t call him that unless he permits you, okay? Also, the possibility of them working here is still undecided."
Myra tilted her head, a curious look in her eyes as she joined in the conversation.
"Then.." She started, her voice soft as she stared at Coco, "Are they here for an interview? I’ve heard rumors that the guildmaster is hiring for roles like bar staff, kitchen staff, and receptionist."
Her attention was fixed on Coco, but she averted and looked at the two boys behind her.
Coco nodded in affirmation, confirming that their purpose for visiting the guild was indeed for an interview.
"Yes.." She replied, her voice trailing off with her eyes shifting to Lukas. "We’re heading to the office to see if the guildmaster is there so we could talk about it, but..."
Coco proceeded to pause, her hand gesturing to Myra and Lukas, silently indicating that their presence had temporarily interrupted their plans.
Myra quickly caught on to Coco’s unspoken cue and quickly grabbed hold of Lukas’ arm.
"I understand." The pink haired woman said with a small smile on her face before proceeding to drag the bewildered Lukas away from the trio. "Don’t let us keep you! Good luck to you two!"
As the pair retreated, it was clear that the woman felt bad for stopping Coco, Heiren, and Kairo to continue on their way.
Coco watched the two disappear among the crowd before she turned back to Heiren and Kairo with a sigh that carried both annoyance and slight embarrassment, she offered an explanation for the sudden interruption.
"Sorry about that.." She apologized first, her voice dripping with remorse. "Those were the hunters I had befriended during the licensing examination.. And uh, Lukas, the blond one, is someone who can’t read the room."
"It’s all good." Heiren assured her, smiling.
"Okay.. Anyway, let’s keep going." Coco sighed and started ascending the stairs again, signaling for Heiren and Kairo to follow suit. "We have to hurry, it’s getting late."
Heiren let out a light chuckle at the situation, finding the interruption rather amusing despite the minor delay it caused.
Beside him, Kairo’s response was just a soft huff, his expression slightly annoyed by the slight holdup— unlike Heiren, Kairo wanted to work as soon as possible to repay Coco for all the things she had done for him.
Unfortunately, even if he voices out his annoyance, he’s sure that he will only make Coco feel worse than she already is.
So despite the brief distraction, the trio continued making their way towards the office, with Coco leading the way like before.
Due to the early hour, the hallway was relatively quiet, the sound of their footsteps softly against the walls are the only noise that breaks the silence occasionally.
"Are you two nervous?" Coco asked, glancing at them over her shoulder.
"No." Heiren answered almost immediately, the smile on his lips widening as he chuckled. "Didn’t I tell you that I’m quite excited for this?"
"True.. Sorry." Coco laughed quietly. "I just wanted to check in on you two."
"I’m good." Kairo stated, keeping his gaze ahead.
"That’s reassuring." Coco hummed and led the way towards an unfamiliar door at the end of the hallway, pausing briefly before knocking on it with a firm hand.
"Mr. Covez? Are you there?" She called out, her voice echoing slightly in the quiet corridor.
There was a moment of silence before a voice came from inside the room, an unfamiliar, gruff tone that was none other than the Guild Master’s. "Yes, come in."
Contrary to what Heiren said earlier, he now feels nervous— he and Kairo both felt nervousness creeping into their being as Coco pushed open the door and announced their presence.
"Pardon the intrusion." She said politely, stepping into the room.
The mediators unintentionally stepped closed to each other, seeking comfort from each other’s presence as they both trailed behind Coco.
The office was spacious and at the center, sitting behind the desk was a man with a scrutinizing gaze.
"I brought two people who wanted to work here." Coco said, grinning.
