CHAPTER 520: WHAT IS THAT? [2]

"What.. What is that?" Kairo asked, his voice shaking as he pointed a shaky finger towards the fairy on Coco’s face.

Lala, Coco, and Heiren whisked their heads to look at him, their eyes wide in shock.

"You can see me?" Lala asked, gasping.

"O.. Of course..?" Kairo managed to stammer out, his hand shaking out of Coco’s grip and slowly backed towards the door, his eyes wide in disbelief and fear. "What.. What are you?!"

Coco and Lala felt so shocked that they were stunned into silence, their lips parted while staring at Kairo.

However, the brown haired mediator snapped out of his shock when he realized something.

"Hold on.." Heiren mumbled, his eyebrows creasing together as his eyes narrowed into a glare. "Can you understand Lala? You can hear her words clearly and not a bell ringing?"

"Yes?" Kairo answered, his breath hitching in his throat when Lala suddenly pulled away from Coco. "Don’t come near me!"

The garden fairy tilted her head and slowly, a smile tugged at the corner of her lips.

"Oh my goodness! You do understand me!" Lala squealed and turned to Coco. "I don’t have to play guess with Heiren anymore! I can use him as my translator now!"

"That is what you’re happy about?" Coco snapped, hissing at Lala. "Can’t you see that we have a bigger issue right now?"

"I know—"

"Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait— hold on a minute!" Heiren cried out and interrupted Lala before she could finish what she was saying. "Are you telling me that you can understand Lala without the ringing bells?"

The brown haired mediator’s words are directed towards Kairo, who felt like he crossed a line.

"Yes? It’s not like I wanted to!" The purpled eyed mediator exclaimed and pointed at Lala. "I don’t even know what that is! What— what is that hideout thing?!"

Lala’s face quickly morphed into anger, her face turning red as she growled at Kairo.

"Excuse me?!" The garden fairy roared. "Who are you calling hideous?! Have you seen yourself, you bad human?! I’m cuter than you and I have more looks than you!"

"Cute?" Kairo echoed, his tone edging towards a scoff. "You’re a floating glob! How are you cuter than me?!"

Heiren and Coco perked up at that.

"Why, you fuckin—" Lala growled and was about to advance towards Kairo, but Coco was fast enough to grab the fairy.

"Wait, Kairo!" Coco chimed in and made Kairo flinch in his spot.

"Ye.. Yes?" The mediator squeaked out.

"Did you just say ’floating glob’ was Lala’s appearance to you?" Coco asked, her eyes wide with excitement as she pushed Lala to Heiren’s hand.

"Does this mean that you can hear Lala, but can’t see what she actually looks like?" Heiren added to Coco’s question, his eyebrows raising.

The unsettling feeling that covered Heiren’s entire being vanished at that, but still, there was something uncomfortable at the fact that Kairo could hear Lala clearly.

That means, he would be able to get closer to Lala who was Coco’s first companion in this world.

Kairo could only stare at them in confusion, his eyebrows creasing together in fear and concern as his gaze switched from Coco and Heiren— silently questioning them if they’re fine in their heads.

Discreetly, his hand started sliding down the door to the doorknob.

He has no clue on what’s going on and what that creature was, but for now, he must do what he thinks is best.

I need to run away! Kairo thought, his hand gripping the door handle.

He turned in his heels and turned the doorknob, but when he tried to, the handle stayed in place and when he looked down, he saw a thick vine curled around it.

His heart beat fast inside his ribcage, a sense of dread falling on his shoulders.

"I knew that you’ll try to run out of here the moment you asked what I am so I made sure to block the exits of this house." Lala spoke up, making Kairo tense up and turn his head slowly to the fairy.

Coco raised an eyebrow and looked at Lala. "Seriously? Even the windows and the doors on the second floor?"

Lala merely flashed Coco a grin before nodding her head. "Of course! It’s the only thing I can do right now, you know? What if he runs out and starts screaming crazy things in the street? I can’t let him do that."

Kairo’s breathing started coming in short bursts, his purple irises dilating and shaking as he stared at Lala.

"Woah, that’s so scary.." Coco commented, taking the words from Kairo’s mouth.

Kairo was shaking so badly that he was using the door to keep himself upright and tried so hard to calm his beating heart, but his eyes caught something moving behind Heiren.

"What is that?!" Kairo screamed, tears welling up in his eyes.

"Why in the world is that puny human screaming his head off?" Came a gruff voice that seemed to make the floorboards shake beneath their feet.

Coco turned to the direction of the voice and frowned. "Richard? Why the fuck are you almost the same size of the doorway? Get back in your mini size and stop calling these lovely mediators ’puny humans’, okay?"

The goleter scoffed and did as he was told, but not before he shot a glare on Coco’s way.

"I’m assuming that since you’re having this attitude, you already know about the egg in your bedroom?" Richard asked, crossing his arm as he shrank back knee-high height.

"Egg?" Coco repeated, her eyes going wide.

Lala perked up in Heiren’s hand, remembering why she was so eagerly waiting for Coco.

"Oh, yeah!" The garden fairy squealed and forgot the offensive things that Kairo had told her. "You finished a quest, didn’t you? Your reward appeared in the bed and I was notified to take care of it."

Thud.

A sound from behind Coco had caught her attention and made her turn back to Kairo, making her gasp.
