CHAPTER 536: WAITING IN THE LIVING ROOM

By the time the dinner was done, Richard and Coco were still nowhere to be found.

"Goodness.. What could have happened to Richard?" Heiren asked no one in particular, sighing heavily as he gazed out of the living room’s window.

"You’re worried about him and not Coco?" Kairo inquired, raising an eyebrow.

The purple eyed mediator was just walking past the doorway of the living room when he heard Heiren talking to himself, which was loud enough for anyone to hear.

The brown haired mediator perked up and looked at Kairo, surprised, but he quickly shook that look of shock and flashed him a smile. "No, not really.. Coco is strong and all, but I learned to mind my business as long as it’s not past midnight yet."

"Only past that time?" Kairo repeated, tilting his head.

"Yes, up until midnight only." Heiren replied with a chuckle. "Coco is a hard working person and she loves working whenever something is on her mind.. Based on her reaction this morning, I’m assuming that she will be late because she will be working."

Kairo stayed quiet and stared at Heiren, not expecting the mediator to be understanding of Coco.

For Kairo, Coco had completely changed.

She wasn’t the person he had known before she got sent off and got married to Zaque, but even when she got married to him, she still treated him the same.

It was the reason why he couldn’t believe the rumors of Coco turning into a drunkard and drowning herself in debts at a small village in a forest known to have numerous undiscovered monsters.

However, when he accompanied Rey in Yogusho Village, he found out that Coco had changed.

Not in the way the rumor painted her to be— no, no, no, no, she changed so much for the better and became someone whom he can’t recognize.

Actually, scratch that, he doesn’t know who Coco truly is anymore.

He knew her to be the stoic, but soft hearted noblelady that dominated the social gatherings of Amberwich City.

Coco Hughes was known for her knowledge and beauty across the big city of Amberwich, but even if she was beautiful and knowledgeable, she was still flawed by the way she couldn’t give Baroness Hughes a grandchild.

For nobles, an heir or heiress is a must.

If a noble child can’t have an heir, they are mostly disowned and thrown out of the household.

However, Baroness Hughes is different. Kairo mused in his mind, his gaze shifting away from Heiren to the window behind him.

She tried everything to make Coco have an heir, but when Coco still showed no sign.. She was labeled as defective. Kairo thought, shutting his eyes as he recalled the memory of reading the information he received from a friend.

Kairo knew that since Coco is the only child of the Baroness, the Baroness wouldn’t be able to kill her because if news got out that Coco was dead, the royal family would get involved and investigate the matter further.

Perhaps.. It’s the reason why the young master insisted on chasing after Coco. Kairo mused inwardly with a grimace because a part of him knows.

"In other households, if a spouse comes home late, they will be accused of infidelity." Kairo spoke up and grabbed Heiren’s attention.

"That’s true, but we all know Coco is too good to stoop that low." Heiren stated, laughing half-heartedly as he waved off Kairo’s statement. "She couldn’t even touch me or Zaque and the other two, much less a stranger."

"Pardon?" Kairo blinked and raised an eyebrow again. "But Coco had already embraced a lot of mediators."

"Yes, that Coco did, but our Coco hasn’t." Heiren retorted with a knowing smile.

"Yes..?" Kairo mumbled, completely feeling lost at what Heiren was trying to imply with his vague words. "What do you mean by that, Heiren?"

"Hmm.. Nothing!" The brown haired mediator laughed softly. "Don’t mind it, okay? How about you sit here with me and wait for Coco together? The others may not show it yet, but they will be joining us here any minute now."

Kairo bit the inside of his cheek and nodded, waddling his way across the living room to take a seat on the couch.

"Is this the first time this happened?" The mediator couldn’t help, but ask.

"No." Another voice answered Kairo’s question and had beaten Heiren from doing so, which made Kairo and Heiren look at the person who had just walked inside the room.

"When it first happened, the four of us were holding back on running out of the house to go look for her, and I’m letting you know right now that holding back wasn’t an easy task." Zaque stated, a scowl resting on his face.

"Have you and Alhai made up?" Heiren asked, shifting on his position by the window.

"Why would we? He punched me first." Came a response from behind Zaque, the voice dripping with disdain.

"I apologized, but he didn’t want to accept it." Zaque rebutted and took a seat beside Kairo. "I punched him because he kneeled me in my testicles.. What would I do if I can’t bear Coco’s child because of what he did?"

Alhai rolled his eyes and walked to Heiren. "If I knew it would make you infertile, I would have done it a couple more times to make sure of it."

Heiren could only sigh. "Stop being childish, you two, and just make up, okay? If Coco knew that you two are fighting because she slept with Alhai first, then she probably wouldn’t do it the second time with any of us."

"Uh.. Should I walk back to my room?" Kairo asked, feeling slightly out of place with the topic they have at the moment.

"No." Alhai stated firmly and sat down on the other side of him. "Be the barricade for now."

"Is Coco still not here yet?" Quizen asked as he walked inside the room, sniffling and hugging himself. "I miss her already."
