New World with Four Husbands
Chapter 537: Lala’s worries
CHAPTER 537: LALA’S WORRIES
It was already past midnight.
Yet, Coco still hasn’t walked through the gates of their little house.
The mediators grew wary of her unusual late arrival and absence, not used to the silence that she often filled with her laughter and numerous questions about random things.
"Should I go to the guild to see if she’s still working at this hour?" Kairo asked, standing up from his spot between Alhai and Zaque.
"Don’t." Heiren stated, not looking away from the window. "Coco will be upset if she knew that one of us walked out of this house late at night.. And it doesn’t matter how worried I am right now."
Kairo shut his mouth and slowly sank down on his seat, his heart beating anxiously as he waited for Coco with her husbands.
The five of them waited for Coco again, but seconds passed and seconds turned to minutes, minutes became hour, and hour became hours— yet, still, no one opened the front door.
The sun wasn’t up nor was it peaking through the horizon when Quizen became fed up and stood up.
"We have been waiting here for hours!" The blue haired mediator exclaimed and rushed to the staircase. "I’m going to change my clothes, then I’ll be off to go to this guild of hers!"
The remaining mediators exchanged glances and decided to follow after Quizen.
The four of them stood up from their own spots and rushed to their own rooms, planning to change out of their home clothes and wear something presentable enough.
The garden fairy swallowed thickly, her red eyes glossing with tears as she stared outside of the window.
"Coco.. Where are you?" Lala mumbled, a whimper escaping her lips as she leaned her forehead against the glass with a quiet thump, not giving a care if the spot suddenly ignited with a dull ache.
Lala tried to be as docile and quiet as possible.
She knew that Kairo could hear her, but couldn’t see her fully so she was being careful.
She knows that the mediator wasn’t aware of Coco’s origin, that she came from earth, that she died and got transmigrated in this world— no, he knows nothing about Coco except for the fact that she wants to help him.
Unfortunately, Lala knew that Coco was too kind for her own good so she kept quiet when Kairo and Reg stayed with them.
She stayed quiet when Rey left Kairo in Coco’s hands and she further watched silently as Coco bent her back for someone who seemed to be nonchalant about all of Coco’s hard work.
However, Kairo showed gratitude to Coco.
For that alone, Lala decided to be kind to Kairo as well, but how could she do that when Coco is not around and was out there, doing god knows what?
"Lulu.. Lulu.. Please tell me that Coco is safe." Lala cried quietly, practically begging with how desperate her voice sounded as she sobbed in her arms. "This is the first time Coco has been gone for so long..’
When Coco first left Lala in the house, the garden fairy was against it.
Lala remembered being upset with Coco because why would she stay with the mediators who were hostile against Coco?
Time goes by, then Lala finds herself slowly leaning and opening up to those said mediators.
Zaque left some cookies for her one morning and would you look at that? She loved those cookies to small bits! She loved them so much that she became so transparent in Zaque’s eyes.
Zaque started leaving more cookies for Lala and before she knew it, she started looking for them in the kitchen.
Lala sniffled, wiping the tears off her cheeks.
But what good would those cookies do if Coco’s not here to share them with me? Lala thought to herself, her eyes shutting tight before burying her face in her arms again.
While Zaque kept leaving cookies for Lala, Heiren did the same, but he was extra attentive to her.
Whenever Lala looks for the cookies, Heiren would perk up and fish them out of nowhere before handing it to her without a fuss.
No teasing remarks, no hateful gaze, nothing.
Heiren was quiet and much more comfortable to be with, so before she knew it, she found herself drawn to the mediator.
Heiren knew that Lala loves those cookies so the mornings that Zaque failed to bake a batch, he would try and fail so hard, but Lala would still accept them because she knew that Heiren tried.
He failed, but tried, and that’s all that matters.
The mediators cared for her in their own way, some showed they liked her by giving her food, but some showed by how they acknowledged her interest in things.
Lala remembered Alhai putting down an empty jar on the table and announced that it was for cookies.
That’s when she knew that Alhai did care.
Quizen showed he cared in his own way, too— he brought home a miniature set of plates, utensils, and things, which were perfect for Lala’s size.
They cared, and Lala tried so hard to be distant to them because she didn’t want to be attached.. She will leave their world sooner than later because humans live much shorter than fairies.
Even so, she wanted to spend the remaining time she has on this world with Coco, her husbands, and her friends, but how can she do that when Coco’s not here with her?
The thought of Coco leaving Lala in the house to protect the mediators made the fairy feel hurt.
She knew that Coco could possibly be sad and hurt with how she died back on earth, she knew that Coco still thinks about her family from time to time.. She knows all of that.
That’s why she’s scared.
She trusts Coco, she really does, but she has seen enough humans who were overtaken by their grief and sadness to the point of madness.
But Coco wouldn’t do that, right..?
