Nhiria's Chronicles: Realm of Regrets
Chapter 20 – Awakening
Then, one cold yet clear evening, while cultivating in the backyard as usual, Sokram felt it.
A subtle yet profound shift.
It was as if a wall within him had started to crack.
Without hesitation, Hannah and Alain, who sensed the energy around him changing, appeared by his side, followed closely by Hilda and the others.
A surge of raw power coiled around Sokram, invisible yet palpable, like a storm forming beneath his skin.
The last time such an upheaval had occurred was when he first grasped Chaos Energy, but this time, it carried less turbulence and more purpose.
Ba-dum! Ba-dum!
Inside Sokram’s heart, his Dragon Heart Core expanded rapidly.
Cracks spider-webbed across its surface until, suddenly...
Crash!
The golden shell encasing Sokram’s Dragon Heart Core ruptured in a silent explosion, dissolving into radiant motes that were hungrily devoured by the obsidian-black core beneath. Pulses of crimson energy crackled like miniature storms, weaving chaotic patterns across its surface.
The lightning-like energy pulsed, rhythmically matching his heartbeat.
Swoosh!
The energy swirling around Sokram was drawn into his lungs, then his heart, and finally his core, only to burst outward in a powerful gust of wind.
What puzzled those around him was the intensity of his energy, which far exceeded that of a Common-level awakening.
The process lasted only minutes.
When Sokram opened his eyes, a notification screen materialized before him.
He had finally reached Tier 1 Awakening.
“Uuf…Finally!” Sokram exhaled in relief.
“Congratulations, young master!” Alain was the first to speak, his voice brimming with pride as he grasped the significance of awakening at the age of thirteen.
The others, though happy for him, were momentarily subdued by conflicting emotions, pride mingled with worry.
“Thanks, Uncle Alain!” Sokram replied, closing the screen with a thought.
Turning to his family, who regarded him with a mixture of joy and concern, their expressions complicated and hesitant, he said, “Come on, you all knew this was coming sooner or later. Don’t look at me like that.”
Hilda stepped forward, her arms trembling slightly as she pulled him into a tight embrace. “Congratulations, son,” she murmured, her voice thick with emotion. “The Path of Evolution is a perilous one, and you, who aren’t even of age, will begin walking it sooner than most.”
Her gaze lingered on his face, searching for any sign of fear or doubt, but all she saw was determination.
For a moment, she allowed herself to feel pride, not just for what he had achieved, but for the man he was becoming. “As your mother, I’m both proud and saddened. Proud because my son is a genius, unlike any we’ve ever seen. Sad because the greater your potential, the greater the challenges you will face.”
“Purge that sadness, Lady Hilda,” Sokram flashed her with his usual mischievous grin, then added with conviction, “Be happy, because every challenge along the path brings rewards. This amazing son of yours will overcome anything fate throws at me, and everything that stands in our way.”
He kissed her cheek gently and hugged her tightly once more.
The atmosphere lightened as Hannah stepped forward, raising her fist to her heart in draconic tradition. “Hooray! Congratulations, Sokram di Dracony vid Dracnakrid. First of your name, destined to reach the skies. This old dragon is proud to be your grandmother and part of your lair.”
“I’m not going to Dracony to become a Duke, Nana,” Sokram grinned widely as he embraced her.
“I know, darling, but that doesn’t change who you are or your ancestry,” Hannah replied warmly. “One day, you’ll be the patriarch of the Dracnakrid family and shadow all of us under your mighty wings.”
“Yes, but I’ll keep counting on you until then. Thank you for your guidance, Nana,” Sokram said with a playful grin, kissing her cheek. “After all, who else will keep me in line when I inevitably get too full of myself?”
Hannah chuckled, giving his right shoulder a playful slap.
Miralyn then approached and hugged him, speaking in Aefhery, the ancient elven tongue, her voice carrying the weight of generations past:
“The Nether Moon and Aether Sun now reside in your heart, gray one, as they did in your mother’s and her father’s before her. May they enlighten your discernment and insight along the path of evolution, beloved child.”
Smiling, Sokram whispered back in her ears, speaking the same language, “With my heart open, I thank thee, Mother.”
Miralyn froze, wide-eyed, but Sokram only smiled at her, gesturing for her to lower her head. He kissed her forehead, and she reciprocated, completing the traditional Gray Elf parental blessing.
Sokram then moved to Astrid, who congratulated him with tears streaming down her face.
“My baby brother is not a baby anymore! Sob… Sob…” she cried, her voice choked with emotion.
Next came Brunhild, Moira, and finally Margiory, all of whom congratulated him, each visibly emotional.
Meanwhile, Miralyn quietly pulled Hilda aside, concern evident in her expression.
“What happened?” Hilda asked.
If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement.
“Where did he learn to speak Aefhery?” Miralyn responded, her voice laced with surprise.
“From the dictionaries Margiory brought him years ago. Why? What did he say to you?” Hilda asked, her brows furrowing.
“He knows I'm his mother, too.” Miralyn fixed Hilda with a questioning gaze and continued, “I thought you said we would tell him together.”
“But I didn’t tell him…” Hilda replied, her eyes shifting back to Sokram, worry creeping into her mind.
‘How could he have found out? Or… did he find out something else entirely?’ She realized with a sinking feeling that they would soon need to tell Sokram the truth about his conception.
Back with the group, Astrid had composed herself and asked eagerly, “So, have you awakened your Dragon Form too?”
“No, but…” Sokram hesitated for a moment before turning to face his entire family. “Guys, I have something to show you all, but please, be seated.”
Hearing the seriousness in his voice, they all complied, sitting close to him.
All except Alain, who excused himself, citing guard duties, quietly left the room after receiving a cryptic glance from Hilda.
Sokram noticed that but pushed it aside as the revelation he was about to make was more urgent.
He took a deep breath before speaking. “Well, some of you might be surprised by this, but I think it’s something to be expected. So… here it goes.”
With a wave of his hand, a glowing screen materialized before their eyes, displaying detailed information about him.

“T-True Existence….” Moira was the first to whisper it, yet none of them could tear their eyes away from the screen.
The reason Sokram awakened as a True Existence was because of three factors: He had unlocked all the gifts of his bloodlines, his physical energy veins were fully formed, and his Dragon Heart Core.
This was another great contrast with his previous timeline; back then, he had only awakened as an Uncommon Existence due to his race.
“P-Primordial….” Hannah muttered, her body shivering at the meaning of that word.
That was also true.
Although Sokram was the result of many bloodlines blended together, the ritual had fused them seamlessly, elevating him into a new and unique being.
“This… I…” Miralyn stammered, looking wide-eyed between Sokram and the part of the glowing screen that said: Heir of Ellaria.
Her heart raced, and her words stuck in her throat while her mind spiraled, struggling to form the right words.
“Don’t worry,” Sokram reassured them with a calm tone. “My Hyperthymesia awakened when I was just six months old, so I’ve known about my conception for quite some time. I remember the day Nana Brunhild spoke to you all after Aunt Moira examined me as clearly as if it happened just hours ago.”
“Oh, shit…” Brunhild and Astrid exclaimed in perfect unison, while Hilda and Miralyn froze, their eyes wide with shock.
“Hahaha. Well, at least that spares us the long conversation,” Margiory joked, attempting to lighten the mood.
But no one joined in her laughter.
Even though Sokram wore a smile, it was clear the subject weighed heavily on everyone.
They had rehearsed countless ways to soften the blow when the truth came out, yet now they were at a loss.
Sokram noticed their unease and reassured them, “Guys, you don’t have to be so worried. It’s fine, really.”
Miralyn hesitated but then asked, “And how long have you known about me?”
“Since the day you arrived,” Sokram confessed, his voice gentle but firm. “I wasn’t entirely sure at first. Nana Hannah kept calling you ‘Mira,’ and I thought it might be a coincidence. But the moment you removed your mask and Mom called you Princess, I knew for sure then.”
His silvery eyes held hers steadily. “It wasn’t hard to piece together once I considered everything, Minahry (Mother).”
Miralyn’s throat tightened, especially hearing him call her mother like that. She had feared the moment he would find out, but the worst part was that he had known all along and had carried that truth silently.
“Then why didn’t you say anything?” Hilda asked.
“I was waiting for you to tell me first,” Sokram said, “but none of you seemed ready. After seeing my Record Screen today, I knew it was time to let you all know that I’ve known everything from the beginning. And that I’m fine with it. But can I ask something from all of you?”
They all nodded, silently urging him to continue.
“From now on, no matter how hard it is to talk about, just tell me, okay? You’ve given me so much love and care, I want to return that to all of you. Trust me a little more. Deal?”
His heartfelt words left them deeply moved.
The atmosphere shifted from tension to warmth as they realized how well Sokram was maturing.
That night, the family turned their relief into celebration, toasting until the early hours.
Brunhild broke out her collection of rare liquors, treasures reserved for only the most special occasions.
Sokram couldn’t help but laugh as his three grandmothers, deep into their cups, debated which one deserved the most credit for his upbringing.
What truly warmed his heart was how his awakening brought his two mothers closer.
Hilda pulled Miralyn into the conversation, saying, “Mira deserves some credit, too. She’s been amazing since she arrived. You all know how much prejudice I've held against the elves of the Central Continent Empire, but Mira changed my perspective.”
Hearing Hilda’s heartfelt admission, Sokram felt a sense of fulfillment.
At least one aspect of his past-future had changed for the better.
Seeing the family’s agreement brought tears to Miralyn’s eyes, while Sokram quietly reveled in the growing bond between his mothers.
After hours of laughter and reminiscing, everyone eventually retired for the night.
Even Sokram went to bed early, eager to inform his master about his awakening and complete the graduation exam, which involved hunting a monster in the nearby icy forest.
However, when Sokram arrived at the academy the next morning with Hilda and Miralyn, his master was already waiting for him, along with four unexpected guests.
Two of them were Wolf-kin men, a father-and-son duo, the City Lord Licarus and his son Lycius.
With their towering, muscular builds, dark skin, and black dreadlocks, they resembled living mountains.
Their feral green eyes, wolf ears, and black tails added to their imposing presence.
Lycius’s first wife, Karini, born in the Snow-Fur Clan, embodied the strength and allure of a Shieldmaiden.
Her voluptuous and toned figure, pale ivory skin, 1.8-meter stature, and striking heterochromatic eyes, one hazel and the other blue. Paired with snowy white wolf ears and tail against raven hair.
Her appearance was as striking as it was unforgettable.
Beside her stood Cecille, Lycius’s third wife and a human beauty of equal distinction. At 1.7 meters tall, her warm, dark brown skin, flowing curls, and a luscious hourglass figure radiated elegance. Her sharp intellect glimmered behind her emerald-green eyes.
Sokram’s gaze flickered between them, faces he was happy to see again.
But an unspoken weight hung in the air.
Whatever had brought them all here wasn’t just to congratulate him.
“You’re early,” Hilda said, grinning as she approached the group and showing that she was behind this impromptu meeting.
