CHAPTER 455: QUESTION

Along the way, all the sickrooms they saw had their windows covered with paper. Jiang Cheng predicted it was because the staff didn’t want them to see that their rooms were different from the other standard sickrooms. The staff had put in a lot of effort to welcome them. The thing that confused Jiang Cheng the most was the need to separate them.

There were many empty rooms nearby. Since they could prepare one room, it wouldn’t be hard for them to clean up another. It would be easier for them to stay together. A voice from behind interrupted him. It was Weiwei. “Du Feng, you were too rash today.”

Du Feng turned around to Weiwei. “What are you talking about?”

“What did you plan to say in Director Qi’s office?” Weiwei’s tone was accusatory. Du Feng remembered that he wanted to share CEO Nan’s disappearance with everyone so they could help analyse it. After all, CEO Nan disappeared on the 17th floor, and the elevator brought them to the 17th floor. After the elevator door opened, they were pulled into this new world. Therefore, he believed those two incidents were related. However, Weiwei stopped him.

It was his habit to listen to Weiwei. After all, she was the CEO’s secretary.

“I wanted to share the news with everyone so we can understand what is happening.” Du Feng groused. “Kui Yi has been to somewhere like this. He has the experience.” In Du Feng’s eyes, Kui Yi was their only hope.

Jiang Cheng sneaked a glance at Weiwei before turning to Du Feng. He uttered slowly, “Weiwei is right.”

Du Feng glared at Jiang Cheng. Jiang Cheng understood that he didn’t mean any malice. He was only scared of the unknown. “Didn’t you hear Kui Yi?” Du Feng countered, “If we can’t find any clues, we’ll all die. I don’t want to end up like CEO Nan.”

“This has nothing to do with Nan Huaili.” Jiang Cheng asked, “Have you considered the consequences of sharing that detail?”

“What consequence?” Du Feng was startled. Clearly, he didn’t think of that.

“The potential analysis that we might get on Nan Huaili’s disappearance case aside, once you told them about it, everyone would turn their aggression on us.” Jiang Cheng shared, “They would believe that this thing happened because we came to investigate Nan Huaili’s disappearance. This happened because of us.”

“That… wouldn’t happen, right?” Du Feng panicked.

“Use your brain before speaking next time.” Jiang Cheng pulled his gaze back. Many things still confused him. He didn’t have the time to waste on Du Feng. After being lectured by Jiang Cheng, Du Feng gained a deeper understanding of many things. He had to agree with Jiang Cheng. Considering the horrible things that he might have done, he became very anxious. He started to break out in cold sweat.

“How… are we going to sleep tonight?” Lin Wan ‘Er spoke. Her voice was so mellifluous that it softened the mood.

“I don’t think we should sleep tonight.” Weiwei looked at Lin Wan ‘Er strangely. She didn’t think the beauty was so brave. She dared to sleep at a place like this?! This place had ghosts!

“We can take turns to sleep.” Jiang Cheng looked around and said, “After all, we don’t know how long we’ll be here. It’s best to rest.”

This time, Du Feng quickly added, “Yes. Mr Jiang is right. This world looks dangerous. I think we should rest when we can. I’ll stay up first. You can sleep. I’m not that tired. I’ll get you if anything happens.” Feeling guilty, Du Feng volunteered to be the first to stay up.

Weiwei shook her head. She grumbled, “I can’t sleep. I’ll stay up with you…”

Jiang Cheng very naturally took over the bed Lin Wan ‘Er sat on. He pulled back the blanket and crawled under it. Then, he pulled it to his chin. He looked so peaceful. He slept just like that. This stunned Du Feng and Weiwei. Only Lin Wan ‘Er looked at him and had some light in her eyes.

If we’re lucky, we might get artefacts to increase our skill points.” Cao Yang saved the last milk tea for himself. He sucked on it as he posed the questions. He was very nervous. Drinking the milk tea could calm him down.

“No.” Kui Yi rubbed his temples. “Perhaps there is. I don’t know. I only know that ghosts cannot be defeated in this world. We can only try to trick them. Based on my understanding, these ghosts came to be because they had too much resentment when they died.

“They might have been mistreated badly. Or they had convinced themselves that they had been.” Kui Yi tried his best to help them understand the nightmare world.

“We need to investigate the ghost’s identity and understand their obsession when they were still alive, and the things that happened to them.

“At the same time, we need to try our best to survive.”
