CHAPTER 458: PATIENTS

In the morning, Jiang Cheng felt refreshed after washing his face. Lin Wan ‘Er also woke up. Weiwei and Du Feng stood up, but their heads felt heavy. Weiwei rubbed her shoulders. Jiang Cheng knew how she felt. It must have felt painful and heavy. However, Lin Wan ‘Er probably had held back. If it were him and Fatty…

Jiang Cheng stopped. His eyes dimmed. Fatty had already left. He couldn’t determine his purpose and identity. He was using an extraordinary method to influence him slowly. Ever since Fatty appeared in his life, the change had started. This transformation continued even after he left.

That was the thing that worried Jiang Cheng the most. There were not that many people whom he couldn’t read. The pure and innocent Fatty was one of them. Jiang Cheng startled when he heard Lin Wan ‘Er behind him. He realised he was standing there for some time. He splashed some water on his face again. It was cold and chilling. It was not a good day.

The sky outside the window darkened. It looked like it was going to rain. The wind howled, causing the trees to sway. For breakfast, only Jiang Cheng and Lin Wan ‘Er ate the instant noodles. Both Weiwei and Du Feng claimed that they were not hungry.

“Mr Jiang.” Weiwei looked at Jiang Cheng and asked hesitantly, “What happened last night? That thing…” Perhaps she was attacked by Lin Wan ‘Er. Weiwei didn’t ask the woman who was closer to her, but Jiang Cheng.

After taking a sip of the hot soup, Jiang Cheng stretched. “Let’s go downstairs and meet up with the others first.” Thankfully, when the door opened, the remaining five were still there. Jiang Cheng sighed in relief. He wondered if the headless ghost had gone to visit them, too. After some exchanges, he realised the other group hadn’t seen or heard anything the night before.

Kui Yi put down the boxed meal. He regarded Jiang Cheng’s team with speculation. “You mean you ran into the ghost last night?!”

“That’s right. It should be the ghost!” Du Feng said agitatedly.

“Should…” Kui Yi didn’t like terms like that, especially when the speaker was a newbie. Newbies loved to exaggerate.

“It was a headless ghost.” Jiang Cheng acted very scared. “It has a shadow but no head.”

“Who else saw it?” Kui Yi asked.

“I also didn’t see the thing’s head,” Lin Wan ‘Er offered.

Kui Yi was suspicious of this talk of ghosts. His gaze wandered among the group, pausing a bit longer on Jiang Cheng.

Jiang Cheng knew what he was thinking. Jiang Cheng’s group was all newbies. If they ran into a ghost, how did all of them survive? If he were Kui Yi, he would think the same thing. The awkward thing was that this question couldn’t be asked openly.

“What else did you discover?” Kui Yi changed the subject.

“The ghost appeared to be looking for something. It failed to find it and left.” Jiang Cheng measured his words when communicating with Kui Yi.

“You said the ghost pushed on the door?!”

“Yes.” Jiang Cheng patted his chest. “We were so scared!”

“You… didn’t make any sound?” Kui Yi believed that if the ghost came to their room, things wouldn’t be so peaceful. He was curious how the group of newbies could be so calm.

“I… was scared witless.” Jiang Cheng explained, “When I reacted, the ghost had already left. The rest didn’t fare any better.” Of the other three, some were knocked out, and others didn’t even notice what happened.

Kui Yi clearly didn’t believe it, but he had no evidence. More importantly, Jiang Cheng had no reason to lie to him. After a while, he asked, “Do you remember the direction the ghost left in the end?”

Jiang Cheng pointed in one direction, and then he changed to another direction. He said, “It… should be that way.”

Kui Yi frowned. Cao Yang, behind him, said, “Wasn’t that the corridor we passed by yesterday?”

A coughing sound grabbed their attention. Lee Kaifeng was still lying down, but she looked worse. Yu Yu took care of her. “Her fever was horrible last night. I peeled back her eyelids to check earlier. Her eyes are bloodshot.” Yu Yu sighed. She didn’t think Lee Kaifeng’s conditions would worsen so quickly. This was abnormal.

Since no one reacted, Yu Yu was confused. “We’re at a hospital. We can’t just watch her die.”

“Eventually, she’ll die.” Wang Changgguo glanced at Lee Kaifeng and mocked, “If she doesn’t die, we might die. Plus, if this place really is haunted, I don’t think she can survive in her state anyway.”

“Perhaps… she has been possessed!” Wang Changguo continued. He pulled on his clothes, his eyes darting about.

Swift footsteps came from the corridor. The door opened. It was Director Qi. “You’re all here.” He said and closed the door behind him. He looked through the crowd and chose Jiang Cheng. He asked, “Did anything strange happen last night?”

“Nothing happened.” Jiang Cheng played dumb. “What do you mean?”

“Really…” Director Qi looked incredulous. “What did you do last night then?”

“We have just arrived. I do not know the situation here.” Kui Yi lied naturally, “We rested in our rooms.”

“Why didn’t you go to find it?” Director Qi’s face darkened. He was furious. “Those dirty things will only appear at night. If you don’t go look for them, how do you plan to eliminate them?

“Your boss has promised me that you can destroy those things within three days!

“That’s why I hired you.”

Director Qi’s reaction flustered them. Then, there was suspicion. Jiang Cheng silently studied this balding man. He didn’t seem to care about the history of the hospital ghost or their goal. He just wanted them to disappear. He wanted the ghost dead.
