CHAPTER 171: CHAPTER 169: THE GREAT TRANSFORMATION OF LIVING PEOPLE [2ND UPDATE]
Her actions made Elijah Reed almost certain that Maya Spencer was in this hospital, perhaps even in the room he was about to search, so he instructed, "Search this ward carefully."
Elijah Reed’s assistant listened to the command and immediately started rummaging through cabinets and cupboards.
Elijah Reed scrutinized the hospital bed and increasingly felt something was suspicious. There was an empty bed, and it was such a good position. Things were getting more and more peculiar. He bent down to carefully observe the marks on the bed and found that the sheets were not newly replaced but were tidied immediately after someone had slept on them.
Next, he opened the bay window and found that the carpet on the windowsill showed no signs of being changed, and there was a spot where the blanket was noticeably stickier than other places. He deduced that it might have been stained with water or something like tears and hadn’t been dealt with after drying, causing it to clump together.
He immediately turned to one of them and instructed, "Go call that nurse in for me."
A moment later, the nurse was brought in, nearly frightened out of her wits.
Elijah Reed looked at the timid nurse, lowered his head, and asked while looking into her eyes, "Why is this ward empty? Who lived here before? When did they get discharged, and why hasn’t the room been cleaned?"
The nurse listened to Elijah Reed’s questions, took a deep breath, and hurriedly explained, "This lady insisted on being discharged tonight, so there wasn’t time to tidy the room. I can fetch the records for you to see."
Elijah Reed feared the nurse was playing hard to get, so he really asked her to retrieve the records for him to see. It was only after confirming that there was no trace of Maya Spencer in this ward that he continued searching other rooms. However, after he searched the entire maternity ward, he still did not see a shadow of Maya Spencer.
After seeing off Elijah Reed and his team, the terrified nurse sat down in her chair, patted her chest, and murmured, "Scared me to death!"
Maya Spencer indeed stayed in their hospital, and the nurse was specifically assigned to take care of her, which made her feel guilty.
This morning, after Maya Spencer was admitted and underwent surgery, all her records were deleted and replaced with another patient’s information.
An hour ago, the doctor suddenly called her, instructing to send Maya Spencer away as someone was waiting to pick her up outside, so she did send Maya Spencer away, immediately cleaned up the ward, and awaited Elijah Reed and his people to arrive.
Tonight, when Elijah Reed’s team was collecting maternity check-up records, they had already startled the snake. Maya Spencer’s attending doctor and her uncle Aron Hanson were classmates. After Maya Spencer notified her uncle of her situation, he sent her to consult this doctor.
This morning, the doctor mistakenly thought Maya Spencer was Aron Hanson’s little lover. After receiving the search warrant, he realized something was amiss, immediately called Aron Hanson, and then discovered Maya Spencer was his niece, so he promptly had the nurse transfer her out.
In a luxurious private car, the driver carried Maya Spencer toward the villa Aron Hanson had prepared for her!
On the car’s rear seat, Maya Spencer lay weakly against the car window, looking at the scarce vehicles on the road. She seemed to have died, saying nothing, even her breathing couldn’t be heard, even though she had just experienced a great escape. Her heart was as calm as stagnant water, without any emotional fluctuations.
At this moment, she even thought she shouldn’t have fled at all; she should confront Liam Spencer head-on, take advantage of his loose guard, and perish together with him. In this way, she would liberate herself from her hatred for him.
As she imagined Liam Spencer’s expression after finding out she aborted the child, she suddenly laughed inexplicably. Her smile was very mocking, and it quickly turned bitter.
She hoped that he could suffer as much as she did, even more painfully! Only then could she gain some psychological balance.
In the Owen Group Chairman’s office, Liam Spencer listened to Elijah Reed’s report, was filled with rage, and abruptly stood up from the chair, smashing his phone to the ground with a "bang." He had searched the whole city but couldn’t find a single trace of Maya Spencer; how could he not be angry?
After a contest with Lillian Morris, his barely calmed anger reignited. He thought she could seek help from Lillian Morris but avoided him like the plague. What did Maya Spencer mean by this?
Elijah Reed seeing Liam Spencer in a fury, immediately explained, "Boss, the search is still happening. We’ve added more manpower, Young Master Graham is already investigating from the highway."
Liam Spencer listened to Elijah Reed’s explanation and couldn’t help but chuckle coldly. He muttered to himself, "What a Maya Spencer, she even managed to do a Houdini act."
Facing Maya Spencer’s disappearance, Liam Spencer was both angry and worried, just wanting to find her quickly. As long as she could come back, he wouldn’t mind anything else.
In the following days, Elijah Reed’s search work never ceased; Xavier Graham even openly entered Hanson Family to investigate. However, no matter how Aron Hanson or the properties under Hanson Clan Group, the hotels were searched, they couldn’t find Maya Spencer.
Actually, everyone knows it’s nothing but an effort that leads nowhere. S City is so big; hiding Maya Spencer is too easy, let alone Aron Hanson could have hundreds of ways to unknowingly send her abroad, which is undoubtedly like looking for a needle in a haystack.
But to comfort Liam Spencer, they had to search, had to let Liam Spencer himself suggest giving up.
After several days of searching, Liam Spencer became increasingly angry, his patience dissipated completely.
...
Meanwhile, in Maya Spencer’s villa, listening to Aron Hanson’s assistant’s report, hearing that Liam Spencer made a big fuss yet ended up with nothing, she finally regained a bit of balance. Liam Spencer was such a self-assured man, seeing his efforts come to naught, she felt exceedingly satisfied.
She said, "Tomorrow I have a document, help me deliver it to Owen Clan Group, make sure it reaches Liam Spencer’s hands."
"Miss, isn’t this too risky? What if you get exposed?"
"Find someone smart to deliver it; don’t use couriers."
"Yes, Miss!"
Watching the assistant’s departing back, Maya Spencer immediately called him back and asked, "When will my uncle return?"
"Miss, Young Master Hanson’s schedule has three days left."
"Arrange a plane for me; I won’t meet my uncle for now."
"Okay, Miss, I’ll report to Young Master, and make arrangements immediately."
After properly handling these two matters, the weight on Maya Spencer’s heart finally lifted.
She very much wanted to see Liam Spencer’s expression upon receiving the document, unfortunately, the circumstances didn’t allow, so she could only imagine his fury. Even though it was just imagination, she felt satisfied.
The next day, in the Owen Clan Group Chairman’s office, Liam Spencer lay in the chair, troubled, raising his hands to rub his temples. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
He immediately adjusted his posture, pretending to be nonchalant as he said, "Come in!"
Pushing open the door was Elijah Reed, appearing timidly, handing over a document wrapped in a kraft paper folder to Liam Spencer, saying, "Boss, someone just handed this to me, told me to pass it to you."
