CHAPTER 349: CHAPTER 347: BITTERNESS BEFORE SWEETNESS【2 MORE UPDATES】
Maya Spencer still remembers that she was rescued by Liam Spencer at the bar, when Hannah drugged her, it was Liam Spencer who saved her, and when she was taken away by the bad guys, it was still Liam Spencer who rescued her.
"Later, I shamelessly clung to Liam, wanting to join his team. He reluctantly took me in. Afterward, we were captivated by each other’s charm... beauty..., and some indescribable things happened. That’s why I came back three years later, once again charmed by his... beauty..., never escaping from his grasp. So, I’ve never not liked Liam."
"Being around him now has become a habit, and it’s quite a good habit."
Maya felt that her explanation was flawless. Noah Owen should be satisfied, and surely Liam Spencer was satisfied too!
When she glanced at Liam Spencer, she saw a smile at the corner of his mouth. It seemed that the story she had just spun was quite seamless.
Maya’s story wasn’t fabricated at all. She simply omitted the part where she was helpless and couldn’t openly say she was being threatened. Besides, her attachment to Liam Spencer could indeed be considered a habit—habitually staying by his side, habitually sleeping in the same bed.
What satisfied Liam Spencer the most about her explanation was the mention of the habit.
The scariest part of a habit is that once she gets used to being with him, sooner or later, she’ll get used to not liking Lillian Morris but instead get used to liking him.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk! I’ve already been bloodied by the abuse from my third sister-in-law, falling in love with each other’s charm... beauty..., can it get any more shameless?" Christopher Scott was too exhausted to ridicule.
"Alright, I lost, I’ll step down, you guys play." Seeing that she finally passed, Maya quickly retreated from the card table.
After Maya stepped down, Asher Norton took her place.
Maya stood beside Liam Spencer and asked him, "Why aren’t you playing?"
"Once I get on the table, I won’t be able to get down. I’m here for you." Liam Spencer said, as he wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his chin lightly on her shoulder, his face close to hers.
At the card table, Noah Owen looked at Henry Reid’s awkward expression and finally smiled smugly. That bastard called her an old woman, now she tormented him by making him watch his beloved woman show affection with someone else. Nothing is more thrilling than this.
Three rounds of cards later, everyone had asked their questions, and started drinking again.
This time, Maya didn’t participate. Ever since her alcohol-induced miscarriage three years ago, she had given up drinking. Helping Henry Reid drink last time was an exception; normally, she wouldn’t drink.
Liam Spencer didn’t persuade her to get on the table this time, but he joined the table himself. Don’t assume he didn’t notice Noah Owen’s little tricks earlier; he just chose not to speak. Since he had already heard what he wanted to hear, it was time to avenge Maya, he wouldn’t let her lose without knowing why.
As a result, once Liam Spencer got on the table, he really didn’t get off. He drank swiftly, knocking out a group of people, and as everyone drank more, their minds became increasingly unclear. Liam Spencer’s card playing became faster too, with every hand taking just three minutes.
At the card table, Hudson Moore blinked in amazement: "Liam did it on purpose, he wants to drink us away and have a private world with his sister-in-law."
"Oh... oh... oh..."
"So that’s it!"
"But we simply won’t leave."
Hudson Moore’s words awakened everyone from a dream, letting them suddenly understand, but each of them still didn’t leave, continuing to resist.
At 2 a.m., everyone returned to their rooms, staggering. Out of the ten people in the whole room, only Liam Spencer and Maya were sober; the others were all knocked over by Liam.
In the bedroom, Maya stretched lazily, lying on the bed, saying, "I’m exhausted, I want to sleep."
Liam Spencer, hearing someone’s complaint, lay down on her, kissed her ear, and asked, "When did you start getting used to me?"
Maya heard his question and her sleepiness was startled awake. She thought, isn’t this topic already over?
But since he asked, she couldn’t just brush it off, so she turned her head, looked at Liam Spencer, blinked her big eyes, and pitifully said, "Anyway, I feel pretty used to it now."
Maya herself couldn’t quite understand if she was used to being by his side, or used to despising him. The only thing she could be sure of was that she had to say nice things to him, make him happy, so they could continue to coexist peacefully.
Moreover, these days, Liam Spencer had behaved well and hadn’t provoked her, so he deserved some contradicting encounters.
Listening to the girl’s explanation, Liam Spencer lowered his head and kissed her lips.
"It’s so bitter." After the kiss, Maya pushed him away suddenly, pouted and complained.
"Bitter first, then sweet." Liam Spencer said with a mischievous smile.
From Liam Spencer’s words, Maya understood. He was simply promising her that she’d feel good later, but she really wasn’t up for it now.
Therefore, she immediately moved his wandering hand away from her, saying, "My foot is hurt."
"Trust me." Liam Spencer had already been stirred by her behind the card table, now how could he easily let her go?
If he decided to have her, no excuses could be considered valid, so Maya was once again devoured by him.
Meanwhile, in Henry Reid’s suite, he drunkenly lay on the bed, yet his mind was filled with images of Maya nestled in Liam Spencer’s embrace. He saw Maya smiling contentedly, looking very happy. She said she had never not liked Liam Spencer, such nice words, but unfortunately, they would never belong to him.
But at this moment, Henry Reid had already accepted fate, completely accepted the fact that Maya wouldn’t have a future with him.
Thinking of his own future, Henry Reid stretched out his long arms to grab the pillow beside him, only to find something warm next to him.
He turned his head and saw Maya lying next to him. Henry Reid half-closed his eyes, almost certain he was dreaming, and it was quite a nice dream.
He reached out his right hand, touched the girl’s face, and gently said, "Maya, it’s nice you came to my dream."
The girl heard his words, struggled to lift her small hand, grasping his wrist but didn’t remove his hand. She quite liked this warm feeling.
Seeing the girl not reject him, Henry Reid held his breath, thinking this dream felt so real.
He stared fixedly at Maya, seeing her obediently lying beside him, feeling so happy, with his large hand caressing her face.
He then moved closer and closer, until his lips touched hers, she didn’t push him away either.
This dreamlike feeling made Henry Reid’s emotions uncontrollably wild, especially since he didn’t need to control them within the dream.
What pleased him was that the Maya in his eyes didn’t push him away and continued to sleep obediently, and he hadn’t awoken from the dream either.
He loved this dream, this feeling even more exciting than before.
