CHAPTER 233: CHAPTER 232: THINGS ARE NOT THAT SIMPLE (6)
In the car, the heater was on full blast, yet her body remained so cold.
He continuously rubbed her small hands, hoping she could get a bit warmer.
She let out a muffled groan, and her attractive eyebrows furrowed involuntarily.
"Are you awake?" He eagerly wanted to get her response, but after she let out that groan, there was no further reaction.
Twenty minutes later, the car stopped at the nearest hospital. He carried her, striding quickly through the hospital doors.
...
Outside the window, a steady rain began to fall, rain droplets pattering against the window with a continuous sound.
He stood in front of the window, watching the endless rain for a long time, lost in thought.
He always felt like he was invincible, yet why couldn’t he even protect his own woman? She stayed by his side, suffering one hurt after another.
"Asher Land..."
A weak voice sounded from behind. He turned back in surprise, seeing that she had already opened her eyes, struggling to sit up. He took a step forward on his long legs and helped her up.
"How are you feeling? Any better?" He sat by the bed, letting her body lean against his shoulder.
"How did you find me?"
Clearly, he hadn’t answered that call. Later, she was just sitting by the roadside, and then she remembered nothing.
"Tell me, who made you like this?" His tone had grown much darker.
Sophie thought for a long time, unable to figure out where to start.
His dark eyes kept a tight gaze on her. He needed to know immediately who had the audacity to touch his woman!
"Is it so hard to just give me a name?" He asked with some impatience.
"This is how it happened." Sophie took a deep breath, "Sister Sunny got me an invitation to a celebrity party, saying I could network, so I went. Later, at the banquet, I met a man who wanted to take advantage of me. I escaped and ended up like this."
She offered him a simple explanation, "You shouldn’t blame Sister Sunny either. She had no idea; she didn’t know who I’d meet, did she?"
"Things aren’t that simple." Asher Land was an astute and sometimes frighteningly insightful man. If she thought she could brush things off with a few words, she was daydreaming.
"Things are just that simple. Why don’t you believe me? Who exactly went through these things, you or me?" Sophie didn’t want things to blow up. Knowing Asher’s temperament, if he found out the truth, it would surely cause an uproar, and she, now, just wanted to keep things quiet.
After all, too many people and things were involved. That so-called celebrity party was nothing but a crazy, depraved gathering. If exposed, those big stars and tycoons would be dragged into a mess, causing chaos.
"If you don’t make things clear to me, I’ll naturally investigate." The seriousness in his eyes made her feel a bit scared, so she turned her head away, no longer looking at him.
He knew her current emotions weren’t good, so he didn’t persist in entangling over this topic.
Lying in the hospital bed, despite being covered with a thick blanket, she still felt cold in her hands and feet. There was nothing she could do; she was born with a constitution that was naturally cold.
Asher Land removed his coat, lifted the blanket, and lay down beside her on the same bed.
"What are you doing?" She asked, looking at him with a face full of caution.
