CHAPTER 293: CHAPTER 289 YOU SAY NO, THEN NO (PART 1)

Early in the morning, Eva Miller was startled awake by a persistent knocking on her door.

"Who is it? This is killing me!" Eva cursed as she trudged heavily towards the door.

Eva opened the door, ready to unleash her anger on whoever had woken her up, but the words got stuck in her throat when she saw the face.

"Sophie, why are you here so early?"

"Let me in," Sophie said, her face expressionless as she walked into Eva’s room. Eva was baffled; Sophie usually didn’t show her such a face. Who had gotten on her nerves today?

She sat on the sofa, staring blankly ahead. Eva waved a hand in front of her face.

"Oh my god, what happened to you? Say something, don’t scare me."

"I was pissed off by some jerk," Sophie spat out the words.

If it weren’t for his birthday, she would have had a huge argument with him.

"Some jerk?" Eva rolled her eyes, "You don’t mean President Land, do you?"

Sophie didn’t deny it.

"Well, if it’s President Land, maybe you should consider forgiving him?"

"Why should I?" Sophie’s voice raised, "Why should he take it out on me when he’s unhappy?"

Eva was at a loss for words. Why? Because he’s Asher Land?

Sophie stood up and started searching through her house but couldn’t find what she was looking for.

"I’m going out for a bit." With that, she slammed the door and left.

Eva, worried she might get into trouble, followed her out in her pajamas.

It turned out Sophie went to the supermarket and returned with a box of alcohol.

"Sophie, you’re not telling me you intend to drink, are you?"

In Eva’s mind, Sophie was an exceptionally well-behaved girl who never touched alcohol back in school. What changed today?

Sophie picked up a bottle opener and struggled to open a beer bottle.

She drank the beer like it was plain water, gulping it down.

"Hey! Sophie, don’t drink so fast!" Eva reached out to snatch the bottle from her, but Sophie ignored her and grabbed another.

Eva found she couldn’t persuade her at all. Although Sophie was clear-headed at first, counting Asher’s faults to Eva, her words gradually became incoherent until Eva couldn’t understand what she was saying.

"Oh my god, you’ll kill yourself drinking like this!" Eva couldn’t take it anymore. She grabbed Sophie’s phone, intending to call Asher Land.

But after going through her contacts, Asher Land’s name was nowhere to be found.

Eva checked her call history, where she found a frequently dialed unsaved number. She tried calling it.

Asher Land picked up the phone, initially not wanting to answer her call, but his hand moved uncontrollably to press the answer button.

"Hello." His voice was icy, and Eva shivered involuntarily.

"President Land, I’m Eva Miller, Sophie’s friend. Sophie got drunk at my house,..."

Before she could finish, Asher hung up.

Eva thought to herself, well, Sophie must have really angered her benefactor this time.

Asher Land grabbed his car keys and dashed to the garage. As he fastened his seatbelt, he suddenly remembered something and quickly redialed the number.

"What’s your address?" he asked, still slightly out of breath.
