Chapter 312 - 308: If It’s Not Suitable, Don’t Be Together
CHAPTER 312: CHAPTER 308: IF IT’S NOT SUITABLE, DON’T BE TOGETHER
Deal?
There is, of course, but he believes it will soon be torn apart. What he needs to do is take the Golden Era Consortium from the old man’s hands within these two short years.
Only then can he escape his control and avenge his mother.
...
Sophie Smith walked into the hospital room carrying a bag full of food. As she lifted her eyes, she saw Oliver Johnson chatting with Christopher Smith beside the bed, and Eva Miller was also there.
"Mr. Johnson, you sure get up early." Sophie was used to Oliver Johnson’s behavior by now, but she wondered how a young master of a conglomerate could have so much free time every day.
Sophie placed the bag she was holding onto the table and took out some cleaned fruits to display.
"Little Sophie, you really should thank Mr. Johnson properly,..." With that, Christopher began his endless praise of Oliver Johnson once again.
Sophie and Oliver exchanged a smile, sharing a bit of helpless amusement, while Eva, however, couldn’t stand it any longer.
"Uncle Smith, Sophie is already spoken for, so you shouldn’t matchmake her anymore. Asher Land, President of Golden Era Consortium, is quite interested in Sophie!" Besides, wasn’t Oliver Johnson hers?
"Eva!" Sophie gave Eva a side glance; she knew Christopher was biased against Asher Land.
Indeed, as soon as Christopher heard the words "President of Golden Era Consortium," his face changed.
"President Land? Asher Land?" Christopher snorted coldly, "Why mention him? He doesn’t deserve my Little Sophie."
Eva was dumbfounded, unable to understand why. She thought Asher Land, with his wealth, talent, and looks, was more than deserving. She hoped Sophie would marry into a wealthy family since she knew that in Asher Land’s heart, Sophie was not just any woman.
Christopher certainly knew that Asher Land was a man standing at the pinnacle, with immense power. Yet, precisely because of this, he couldn’t provide Sophie with simple happiness. He just wished for his daughter to have a simple happiness, that’s all.
If they aren’t suitable, they shouldn’t be together.
The atmosphere in the hospital room became somewhat awkward due to the mention of Asher Land’s name.
Oliver Johnson smirked, sensing that the relationship between Sophie and Asher was indeed not shallow, especially since even her best friend said so.
Suddenly, without warning, Christopher turned pale, convulsing uncontrollably before finally losing consciousness.
"Dad, what’s wrong?" Sophie panicked, while Oliver rushed to the doctor’s office next door to call someone over.
Soon, Christopher was wheeled onto a surgery cart.
She jogged along, following until Christopher entered the operating room.
She leaned against the wall, slowly squatting down. She just had a bad feeling.
The operation light remained on, and so her heart remained on edge.
She only felt her head getting heavier and heavier, and for a few seconds, she couldn’t even think, as if she had lost the ability to function.
Seeing her like this, Eva was worried sick.
"Sophie, you should go rest first. I’m here, and Uncle Smith will be fine."
"No, I must stay here to see my dad come out of the operating room."
She realized how fragile life was; perhaps with just a turn, you might never see the person you love most again.
Eva cast a pleading glance at Oliver, and after contemplating for a moment, Oliver bent down and lifted her off the ground.
"Let’s go back to the hotel for a bit of rest first."
"But my dad..."
"Don’t worry, I assure you with my life that your dad will be absolutely fine."
For some inexplicable reason, she felt much more at ease.
