North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 1092 611: Discovery at Sea
Jimmy swore, "This has ruined our vacation. Captain, how long will it take for them to get here?"
Captain: "It should be quick, about twenty minutes. Let's wait here."
Nia asked Jimmy, "How much is there?"
Jimmy glanced at the package and shook his head, "It's probably a few kilograms, hard to tell because it's soaked in seawater. But this is worth at least hundreds of thousands, looks like they messed up and threw it away in panic."
Nia also cursed, hugging Jimmy, "My beach vacation, it's all ruined."
Jimmy patted her back, "No worries, we'll just explain to them later, we're only the ones who found it, it's not ours."
Soon, a speedboat came over, and after approaching the yacht, two Coast Guard members, a uniformed officer, and a plainclothes detective boarded the yacht.
Detective: "Detective Bernard Green, who discovered the package?"
Jimmy stepped forward, "Jimmy Yang, Senior Agent at the NYC FBI Division. This is my fiancée, NYPD Detective Nia Miller. She found it while swimming; I brought it up."
Detective Green was surprised and shook hands with Jimmy, "Really? Can I see your credentials?"
Jimmy: "Sorry, the credentials are at the hotel. We were just out having fun, didn't expect this unexpected situation."
Detective Green nodded, "Let me check first."
He squatted next to the package, put on gloves, flipped through it, and nodded, "Yes, Colombian goods, same packaging as the ones we found last time."
He stood up and said to Jimmy, "Sorry, but it looks like I'll need you to come to the station."
Jimmy glanced at Nia and nodded to Green, "Of course."
Green said to the captain, "Don't disclose these coordinates to anyone, we'll arrange to check and salvage any possible remaining goods."
The captain nodded, "Then, do we return now?"
Green: "Yes, let's head back."
Jimmy and Nia were not taken to the Coast Guard speedboat but instead stayed on the yacht watched by Detective Green and the uniformed officer, with the Coast Guard speedboat following behind. When they reached the club dock, the speedboat left.
Jimmy and Nia gathered their stored personal belongings, went to the police station by a squad car, and registered their information and testimonies. Detective Green carefully reviewed them and said, "Thank you, if possible, please don't return to New York yet to give us time to investigate."
Jimmy nodded, "Please investigate quickly, we both have work and can't stay here long."
Detective Green smiled, "Of course, I'll handle it swiftly."
Jimmy and Nia returned to the hotel, no longer in the mood to go out.
During the questioning, Jimmy incidentally inquired about the situation. Their luck was really bad; Miami police had just cracked a significant drug smuggling case days earlier. Key West belongs to Monroe County and doesn't share jurisdiction with Miami but collaborates due to proximity and coastal location.
The package Jimmy found was sent for inspection and confirmed to match the smuggled goods from Miami's case, possibly from the same batch. The police needed to contact Miami to confirm before deciding if Jimmy and Nia could leave.
That night, Jimmy received a call from Detective Green, informing them they'd need to go to the Miami Police Department with him early the next morning.
At Miami PD, Jimmy and Nia repeated their itinerary and drug discovery process, concluding their involvement. They also learned that Detective Green had contacted professional divers who found another similar package near the island but no other discoveries.
The remaining investigation was up to the police. Jimmy and Nia left the station and went to a restaurant sitting by the window. Jimmy sighed, asking, "Do you still want to stay here and play?"
Nia: "No, better go back."
Jimmy: "Okay, I'll book us tickets."
Jimmy called to book tickets; there were none for that day, only next morning's. Instead of delaying, he booked two first-class tickets directly.
Jimmy: "Still have half a day; want to go somewhere? How about Miami Zoo?"
Nia: "No, let's go to Little Havana; I've heard the food there is great."
Jimmy: "Okay"
Nia bought some gifts for friends there, and after tasting a cigar at a cigar workshop, Jimmy also bought a few boxes to take back.
The next day, Jimmy and Nia finally returned to New York. The trip slightly exceeded their planned time, luckily Jimmy had two colleagues covering, so no worries about leaving things unattended.
Back at the office, Jimmy said, "Hi, Mark, Julia, anything big these days?"
As he walked over, he distributed gifts he brought to Mark and Julia. Mark got some cigars, and Julia got Cuban coffee beans, which Nia had chosen because she loves them.
Mark: "Thanks. There was a street shooting case, already handled."
Jimmy looked at Mark in surprise, "When did that happen?"
Mark: "Christmas Eve around 1 am, someone randomly shooting from a car at people on the street. NYPD tracked the car info, but surveillance showed the shooter drove out of Manhattan toward Jersey City, so they contacted us."
The shooting resulted in three people injured but no fatalities. The car was found in Jersey City's outskirts, and we contacted Newark Office team; they investigated and caught the shooter the next day.
Jimmy: "You didn't go to New Jersey, right?"
Mark: "No, just coordinated by phone, now the shooter is in jail awaiting Prosecutor's decision on charges."
Jimmy: "Then leave it with them to handle. If anything crosses jurisdiction lines, inform me."
Proactive work, they handled the case themselves without alerting Jimmy, although they really ought to have at least called for advice on handling such matters.
Jimmy returned to his desk, tidied up, and reviewed new case records from the past days.
After a while, the fax machine buzzed; Mark checked the fax, "Yang, from Hudson River Valley Field Office."
He handed the fax to Jimmy, who recognized the case, a villa murder a few days ago, two people dismembered.
They had no leads on the case so far and were notifying Manhattan Office to check if similar cases exist elsewhere, hoping for related clues.
NYC Office handles cases in New York State's southeast counties, not just NYC, thanks to their five field offices. Typically, Jimmy and his team manage city-level cases, but this particular one seemed unmanageable from their end.
Jimmy: "Mark, Julia, get in touch with NYPD and see if they've spotted similar cases."
Mark: "Any specific requirements?"
Jimmy: "Just a search, we have no leads now."
Assigning Mark and Julia their task, Jimmy flipped through the agency directory, contacting Hudson Valley Office to inquire who was on this case, needing a detailed investigation insight.
Originally thought it'd be routine inquiry possibly leading nowhere, but unexpectedly, a few hours later, Mark and Julia returned with unsettling news for Jimmy.
NYPD also had a similar beheading and dismemberment case; one victim murdered at home, still no leads.
