Chapter 1221 - 671: Afternoon Tea with Dr. Jensen
Jimmy glanced at Mahong, "What about you, Mahong? Aren't you attending?"
Mahong smiled faintly, "I didn't fire a shot."
Jimmy looked at Ruiz, "Do we have to choose Dr. Jason?"
Ruiz nodded, "That's the person designated by DC."
Jimmy had no choice this time, "Alright, I'll call to make an appointment later."
Dr. Jason was the hardest psychologist appointed by the bureau. He used to be at the DC headquarters and later settled in New York, serving the bureau for two or three decades. Such a person had become very adept and particularly stubborn, with little room for negotiation.
The key was that his seniority was too high. You'd better not mess with such old hands in the bureau as their network was too vast. Jimmy had known about this person for a long time, but never had any dealings with him.
Jimmy left Ruiz's office, said goodbye to Mahong, and went back to his office. He told Mark and them before he left the office again, leaving those two unlucky guys to continue their shift. Their rotational rest seemed to be further delayed, and of course, might just be gone like that.
Back in his car, Jimmy took out his phone, found Dr. Jason's number, and called him. Initially, he thought he would be difficult to communicate with, but surprisingly, he was easy to talk to. Dr. Jason directly invited Jimmy to his house for afternoon tea.
Jimmy certainly did not refuse. Psychologists more or less had some personal habits. Some people preferred working in studios, while others preferred parks or outdoor settings for psychological counseling. This was not unique. Jimmy was also learning psychology-related knowledge now, so he naturally didn't feel that being invited to his home for tea was some special favor.
Dr. Jason wasn't in Manhattan, but in Queens. The three-story stand-alone house looked a bit old; however, it was clear that it was often maintained. The exterior walls were not eroded or damaged, just somewhat aged.
At the door, Jimmy rang the bell, and the two people in the room parted ways. One came to open the door for him, and the other headed to the adjacent room, which seemed to be a study.
The one opening the door was Dr. Jason. Jimmy smiled and extended his right hand, "Dr. Jason, I'm Jimmy Yang."
Dr. Jason shook hands with Jimmy, "Come in."
Dr. Jason directly led Jimmy through the house to a small backyard, where a small table and two backed chairs had been set up. Nearby was a large tree whose shade covered this small area perfectly.
Dr. Jason said, "Please sit. I've heard for a long time that we have an exceptionally brave agent in the office. I didn't expect you to be so young."
Jimmy replied with a smile, "Maybe Asians look younger. I'm already 30."
Dr. Jason said, "Thirty is considered young in our profession. Don't be modest. I've learned about the things you've done; you're a good kid."
Dr. Jason asked Jimmy to wait a moment as he went inside to bring out a pot of tea and a tray of snacks, placing them on the small table. The tray also had some sugar packets, which was quite rare. When Dr. Jason poured the tea, Jimmy realized it was English black tea, already with milk added, and the sugar was to be added according to taste.
Jimmy hadn't had this kind of English black tea before. The taste had a trace of malt aroma. He didn't add sugar, just took a sip as it was.
Dr. Jason also took a small sip of tea and then asked, "I heard you were involved in a big case last week. Can you tell me about it?"
Jimmy didn't hide anything and briefly mentioned their operations and the identity of the other party. Dr. Jason listened while sipping tea, occasionally nodding, without deliberately interrupting Jimmy. He only asked Jimmy to take a sip of tea at critical points, giving both of them time to digest the information.
After finishing the story and finishing the tea, having eaten a few homemade cookies, Dr. Jason didn't ask any other questions. Instead, they casually chatted about Jimmy's wedding and honeymoon before ending their conversation.
When leaving, Jimmy was somewhat surprised. He initially thought this visit would be troublesome. However, it seemed that Dr. Jason didn't ask any special questions. Was his psychological evaluation over just like that?
Given his own psychology knowledge, Jimmy found Dr. Jason's approach peculiar, deviating significantly from what he had learned from books.
Furthermore, the person in the other room was quite intriguing. He stayed in the study the entire time until Jimmy left. Only when Dr. Jason closed the door and went back to find him did the two return to the living room to chat. Perhaps Dr. Jason never intended to give Jimmy any psychological evaluation; he might have wanted Jimmy to leave quickly, not to disturb their conversation.
Jimmy stood by his car door, looking at Dr. Jason's house, shook his head, got in the car, and headed back to his apartment.
Hearing the car start, Dr. Jason looked at Hughes opposite him, "This young fellow has pretty good alertness. Do you think he noticed you?"
Hughes replied, "Of course, he noticed. But he couldn't have known I was in the study. What do you think of him?"
Dr. Jason said, "He's a pretty good kid. You guys were lucky."
Hughes added, "Yes, apart from his strong aggressive tendencies, everything else is good. He's got brains and action power, exceptional case-solving abilities, and most importantly, he cares deeply about his peers. With him, we've avoided several personnel casualties."
Dr. Jason said, "Alright, no need to praise him too much. I understand your point."
Hughes said, "Well then, I'll leave him to you. I'm heading back now."
Dr. Jason nodded and stood up to see Hughes out the door. At the door, he asked, "Hughes! Are you so sure he won't leave?"
Hughes smiled, shook hands with Dr. Jason to say goodbye, and did not answer his question, "Goodbye, Jason."
Hughes left Dr. Jason's home, walked a bit down the street, got into a car parked by the roadside, and drove away.
Because he didn't want Jimmy to see him, he didn't even park his car in front of Dr. Jason's house. Jimmy hadn't anticipated this, and hadn't checked the car plates on the roadside while passing by, which was normal because who would pay attention to the parked cars any time?
As Dr. Jason watched Hughes leave, he returned to the study, put on his glasses, and started writing a report. Obviously, Dr. Jason didn't like writing reports on a computer.
Jimmy wasn't aware that Hughes was also present and that the discussion was related to him. Being able to pick up some extra leave time was something he definitely had no objection to as it gave him a chance to relax and check some accounts at the bar.
The bar's revenue was still pretty good. Woody and Isaac were in charge of the bar's internal affairs and external relations, and their cooperation was still quite harmonious. Although Isaac's work was affected for a time by his divorce and other trivial matters, Woody adequately filled his absence. Jimmy didn't interfere randomly in the bar's management, just needed to check the accounts periodically.
As for whether they might be up to something, frankly speaking, a little more or less wasn't a big deal. After all, it's just a bar; even if they wanted to, they couldn't squeeze out much profit. Once movements are a bit bigger, it shows up in the funds' flow.
Jimmy even considered whether to give them a bigger bonus share in the year-end profits, though he hadn't decided on the percentage yet. This intention was previously mentioned to Woody, and it was to be settled during the year-end tally since there was plenty of time.
The next evening, Jimmy met with Alex Green. Alex formally asked Jimmy to be Elliot's godfather, and of course, Jimmy agreed. Afterward, the two discussed it and decided to hold the ceremony on Elliot's birthday, which was a month away.
After parting with Alex, Jimmy went to a gentleman's club. Such clubs generally offered socializing, dining, and gaming facilities and services, seen as a "second home" for male members, allowing them to relax, make friends, play indoor games, or dine, without constraint. Of course, these were also refuges for men, with some people using them to avoid female relatives.
Giving Ruiz's name, the attendant led him to a small reception room where Ruiz was already present. Jimmy sat on the sofa next to him, quickly noticing that someone else must have been there before him, but had already left. A few water droplets remained on the coffee table between the sofas, indicating the person's departure wasn't too long ago.
Ruiz was the first to speak, and his opening line shocked Jimmy: "Jimmy, someone wants to transfer you out of Manhattan."
