Chapter 1226 - 674: Godfather Ceremony
Jimmy still doesn't like DHS; this time when he went there it just felt fake, a group of people with fake smiles felt too scary, always suspecting that someone is secretly plotting against him, so Jimmy didn't stay long in Washington, D.C and returned early to New York. However, there's some good news as his collection got another addition.
Looking at the space on the desk, Jimmy moved the photo frame of him and Nia, then displayed the medal. If there were one or two more, the desk wouldn't be able to hold them all; eventually, he'd have to put them on the wall.
Jimmy's office space, unlike Ruiz and the others, doesn't have large bookshelves behind them to hold a lot of display items. His desk was the only space he could use, and he can't put too much on it since there's also space for the computer, stationery, and some documents.
After finishing some tasks, Jimmy went back to relaxing; Mark and Julia handle departmental daily affairs and outdoor investigations, and Jimmy is now almost assured of them as long as no danger arises, he doesn't need to accompany them out, and situations requiring Jimmy's accompaniment are getting fewer.
Elliot's birthday is here, it's also the day he appoints Jimmy as his Godfather. Jimmy had previously discussed the timing with Father Rodney and informed others about the church and time for the ceremony.
Becoming a Godfather is completely different from marriage; Father Rodney didn't arrange the ceremony in a big cathedral but specially set up a small chapel in the lounge behind the church, placing a chair in front of a cross, the kind with a high back, and arranged three rows of long benches in front of the chapel for people attending the ceremony.
There weren't many attendees, Elliot's family and Kevin's family, and two friends invited by Alex Green, only these close ones participated in the ceremony.
Attendees sat down early while Jimmy and Elliot waited in one room on the other side.
When Father Rodney announced the start of the ceremony, everyone stood up; Jimmy took Elliot to Father Rodney, letting Elliot sit on the chair while Jimmy stood beside him, placing his hand on Elliot's shoulder.
Although Father Rodney hadn't presided over a ceremony for a long time, he was still very professional, holding a Bible and reading scripture, then conducting a baptism for Elliot.
This baptism was much more complex than the simplified version Jimmy had before; using Holy Oil, Father Rodney lightly dabbed Elliot's lips, forehead, eyes, nose, and ears while reciting prayers.
He then asked Elliot whether he believed in God, questions that were previously informed of the process, Elliot quickly answered, occasionally turning to glance at Jimmy's face.
Father Rodney then asked Jimmy if he was willing to be Elliot's Godfather, and as a guardian and protector guide Elliot onto the right path, Jimmy agreed decisively.
Father Rodney prayed for both of them again, using Holy Water to complete Elliot's baptism ceremony, leading Elliot to become a believer.
Jimmy squatted in front of Elliot, taking off the Cross Pendant from his neck, he reached out and touched the Cross Pendant, looking at Elliot and said: "This pendant was a gift from a Priest, I've worn it all these years, and it has been protecting me. I now give it to you, hoping it will protect you in the future as well."
Elliot, eyes wide with surprise, looked at Jimmy, "Thank you, Godfather."
Jimmy personally put it on Elliot, this being his Godfather gift to his godson, Elliot looked at the pendant in his palm then put it inside his clothes.
Father Rodney looked very gratified; the Godfather gift Jimmy gave Elliot was a fitting Cross Pendant, perfectly meeting the teachings, and very suitable for the current scene, far more valuable than some people preparing bracelets or other gold and silver items; furthermore, the Cross Pendant is known to have some protective capabilities, showing Jimmy truly cares for his godson, providing shelter for him.
Others saw Jimmy take off a somewhat aged-looking Cross Necklace from his neck to give Elliot, and they also didn't see anything wrong with that; such personal items given to family symbolize closeness and represent Jimmy's genuine acceptance of his godson.
With the ceremony over, Jimmy and Elliot's relationship was witnessed by everyone, and Jimmy is now Elliot's co-guardian with responsibilities for guiding and protecting Elliot.
However, before leaving, Jimmy still took Elliot to thank Father Rodney in his resting place, this being Elliot's first meeting with Father Rodney; as the priest presiding over the ceremony, Rodney is actually considered Elliot's Godfather in religious terms.
After a brief conversation, Jimmy left the church with Elliot, joining others heading to the hotel for a gathering meal, allowing everyone to become familiar with each other. Nia had agreed with Jimmy on planning for children; now as Elliot's Godmother, she also got to understand Elliot's situation, helping alleviate any unfamiliarity between them, which is good, sparing Jimmy from the need to introduce Elliot.
Elliot is still young and in elementary school, temporarily Jimmy can't teach him much; let Nia teach him how to protect himself when she's free, as Nia is a professional police officer, these are not difficult for her.
