Jimmy's good mood in the morning was ruined by a phone call from Ruiz. After hanging up, he made sandwiches and wrapped them up, which were breakfast for him and Nia, only his portion was doubled.

When Nia finished freshening up, the two cuddled for a while before heading out to work.

Jimmy was already preparing; Nia's birthday was coming up soon and he was planning to surprise her, so they had been spending more time together lately, but he hadn't let anything slip.

At the office, he went straight to find Ruiz, "Any news now?"

Ruiz: "Preliminary judgment is indeed suicide; surveillance footage rules out the possibility of anyone entering his cell."

Jimmy: "How did he commit suicide?"

Ruiz: "Twisted his prison uniform into a rope and hanged himself on the bars."

Jimmy was speechless; what was going on? Arrested but not yet sentenced, only temporarily detained, without even a few rounds of interrogation, how could he suddenly commit suicide? Was he threatened?

Jimmy: "Found any clues? Like anyone talking to him?"

Ruiz: "Not yet, the surveillance videos are still being checked, let's wait for the news."

Jimmy: "What about the people at the detention center? Investigated them? Did they have contact with that person?"

Ruiz shook his head: "Can't be sure yet; now it's Emma's people investigating it, after all, it's her case, we're not in a position to intervene right now."

Jimmy sighed: "Okay then, notify me if there's any news, I'll head back to the office first."

Ruiz nodded; this matter might also involve them, not just the smuggling case itself. If it's confirmed to involve the Genovese Family, then the people on Emma's side are not as professional as his team.

Generally, smuggling cases have a strong background, with many gangs and departments possibly involved, especially in maritime smuggling routes. Emma's team has handled big cases before, usually with FBI team coordination. Regarding familiarity with various gangs, the Organized Crime Investigation Unit is undoubtedly the top choice.

Jimmy returned to the office, checked the system messages on the computer, and ensured there was nothing urgent. He then decided to slack off for a bit. Having just completed a major task that caught the attention of both the OPR and the Federal Prosecutor, it was the time to do less to avoid mistakes, staying out of trouble to prevent giving them any excuse for investigation.

He couldn't enjoy his tea, though; just as he finished brewing it, a call came from Hughes.

Jimmy looked at the freshly brewed tea. A good cup of tea, left for a while, would lose its flavor. So he poured it all into his thermos and took it to Hughes' office.

Hughes waved his hand: "Close the door."

Jimmy turned and closed the office door, "What happened, Hughes?"

Hughes: "The case this time was handled well, but don't go out unnecessarily these days, just stay in the office."

Jimmy: "Is it about yesterday's matter? Ruiz told me it's not just OPR; the Federal Prosecutor has also commented?"

Hughes nodded: "When you launched a raid on those apartments in the early morning, some procedures were incomplete, and someone found out. Emma's smuggling case is a bit better, but your shooting case is a bit troublesome."

Jimmy tilted his mouth; these people were really obsessed with procedural justice. In such cases where our people are killed, what's the point in thinking so much? If there's a clue, just act on it, if you hesitate here and there, the perpetrators would have escaped long ago.

Jimmy really looked down on such people; think about how it is when a brother is killed in every police station? Every precinct goes all out to investigate, with patrol cars filling the streets, dozens to hundreds of patrol officers gathered to block traffic, that's what you call a grand display.

Now Jimmy and his team were just slightly procedurally non-compliant, yet the OPR from the Bureau to the Federal Prosecutor were onto them. They seriously needed a lesson on what brotherhood really means.

Hughes also understood what Jimmy was thinking from his expression, "In short, it's somewhat troublesome now, you all just stay low for a while."

Jimmy nodded: "I understand, I'll go back to the office and just have some tea. Oh, right, this is the tea I just brewed, would you like a cup, Hughes?"

Hughes looked at Jimmy's carefree demeanor, feeling quite a headache, "Hmm."

Jimmy picked up the cup nearby, opened the thermos, poured Hughes a cup, then left the thermos there and turned to leave.

Hughes looked at the cup and the thermos on the table, shaking his head.

The pressure was not on Jimmy at the bottom; it was Hughes who was bearing the most pressure now.

Ryan and Derek were technically from the field office, but organizational-wise belonged to the Manhattan office's dispatch office, only they were stationed permanently rather than temporarily.

Hughes' position was Assistant Special Agent Supervisor, responsible for field agent management. Of course, the field office's field agents were under his management, though that side also had people managing the field office.

Now with one field agent dead and one injured, the Manhattan office finding the culprit within 24 hours and having all perpetrators brought to justice, it was a big accolade not only proving the outstanding abilities of the Bureau's agents, but also demonstrating how they shared a common enemy and were as close as brothers.

Now that such people were targeted for investigation, if not handled properly, the field department might ignite. Perhaps everyone wouldn't openly say anything, but it would certainly be a severe issue for internal unity.

Hughes picked up the cup, blew on it, took a shallow sip, thinking while drinking, and after finishing the cup of tea, he made up his mind, determined to suppress the matter this time.
