North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 83: 082 The gun battle is over
Jimmy replaced the magazine in the 92F with a spare and loaded six new bullets into the M686, even though he hadn't fired all of the previous ones, he switched it out to feel more secure.
Jimmy transferred the revolver to his right hand, since the police car was modified, with a combination of steel and plastic plates separating the front and back seats, making it very difficult to shoot the people in the back of the car directly through the front glass. Jimmy could only crouch on the right side and aim at the baseline of the car's tail. From Heart Eye's perspective, two people were now busy stopping bleeding, only one person was holding a long gun, and the driver had already gotten out of the car and ran towards the injured from the direction of the car's tail.
Counting Rex, who was crawling toward the car's tail from the side of the road, none of the five people were dead.
The suspect who had been shot in the right arm tied it up with a belt. Afterwards, the driver dragged him toward the truck behind them, while the remaining two—one with a long gun on the left and one with a handgun on the right—took cover once again behind the trunk at the rear of the car. The one holding the long gun casually tossed the handgun he previously used to Ray, who was crawling on the roadside. Ray picked up the handgun, sat up directly, and aimed at the front of the police car.
Now Jimmy was extremely annoyed. He was usually a very accurate shooter, but those were under normal conditions. Never before had he needed to sit on the ground and shoot from such an awkward position beside the car.
The accuracy of his shooting had dropped to an unacceptable level. With a full magazine plus one in the barrel of the 92F, he had 16 pistol bullets and three revolver bullets, but only two hit their mark—one in Rex's leg and one in the right arm of the man who initially was holding the long gun on the left side.
This was the first time since he started patrolling that Jimmy had used up so many bullets, the first time he had emptied a magazine, and it was also the time with the fewest results.
Jimmy kept watching the opposition with Heart Eye. If there were only two armed targets, the problem shouldn't be too big. Jimmy chose to take the offensive, moving to the right side of the car's front. Due to the partition in the middle of the police car, the enemies at the car's tail didn't see the direction of Jimmy's movement.
Jimmy's first target was the person with the handgun on the right. Although the long gun was more dangerous, to take down the person on the left with a handgun in his right hand would require exposing too much of his body, whereas the situation on the right side was much better.
If there was only one person left with the long gun, for Jimmy with his X-ray-like ability, it would just be a matter of a sneak attack to deal with him.
Jimmy carefully watched the suspect's movements. When the criminal on the right side moved to the right, Jimmy fired a preemptive shot at the head peeking out to spot Jimmy's position. For such a target at a distance of two to three meters, Jimmy's aimed shots would definitely hit with one hundred percent accuracy.
With one shot, he eliminated the opponent, leaving only the person with the long gun on the left side and Ray sitting on the ground holding a gun.
This shot frightened the criminal on the left side, who immediately stood up and fired several shots at the front of the car with the rifle, but Jimmy had already taken cover behind the wheel hub on the side.
Jimmy was quite lucky this time; the criminal's long gun had not been switched to full automatic mode but was still on semi-automatic. Although he had to rely on Heart Eye for the entire process due to the angle, and thus couldn't confirm the model, the threat level of full-automatic mode compared to semi-automatic was entirely different.
Jummy saw the opponent remove the magazine, pausing before putting it back, most likely checking the number of bullets. The situation had been too urgent earlier for Jimmy to count how many shots were fired from the long gun. If the magazine hadn't been changed earlier, there shouldn't be many bullets left, but he couldn't take that risk—it could be dangerous.
Jimmy watched his target's position without making a move. He then retreated and lay down, firing a shot under the car at the target's feet, before immediately getting up and crouching down, taking cover behind the wheel hub.
The criminal was hit in the foot and collapsed to the ground, screaming while pushing against the ground with his good leg, trying to hide behind the vehicle. Jimmy noted the man's resilience; he still held the gun in his right hand and used his left hand to move.
Now there were only two crippled and armed criminals left; the two that had entered the truck had yet to show themselves. Looking through the windshield, Jimmy could see that the driver wasn't in the driver's seat, so there was no need to worry about them trying to drive away.
Bent at the waist, Jimmy moved toward the rear of the car. Ray, who had been sitting on the roadside aiming a handgun at the police car, had been scared and was now trying hard to stand up, preparing to run toward the truck.
Jimmy reached the rear hub and stood up to take aim at Rex, firing two shots. To avoid trouble back at the police station, he didn't target the head this time; instead, he shot directly at the chest.
As Rex stood up and moved on one leg, his body swaying largely, one of Jimmy's bullets entered through the right side of his back and protruded from his left chest, passing through at an angle. He fell to the ground, convulsing a few times before going still.
The suspect with the rifle on the ground promptly threw the weapon aside and shouted his surrender.
Jimmy didn't give him a chance, shooting him in the neck, and then walked straight towards the truck. The man with the injured right arm was sitting in the truck, while the driver had already run towards the woods at the side of the road.
Jimmy wasn't interested in the driver; the only living witness was now him.
Jimmy: "Don't move, drop your weapon, and come out of the truck!" Even if it was just for appearances, Jimmy couldn't just shoot through the truck; it would look too bad and make the report difficult to write.
"You're the only one left, don't resist, drop your weapon, and come out of the truck to surrender."
Jimmy called out from the side of the truck and didn't go straight to the rear door, mainly for safety, because there was still a handgun in the truck, now held in the suspect's left hand. From his initial observation, it should have been the gun Rex had left in the truck when he got out.
Jimmy shouted again: "You're the only one left, don't resist, drop your weapon, and come out of the truck to surrender."
Presumably in despair, the suspect fired several shots towards Jimmy's direction with the handgun, then turned the gun under his own chin and pulled the trigger.
Thus, a bizarre gunfight ended in just a few minutes. Since it took place in the wilderness, backup hadn't arrived yet.
Jimmy put the revolver back into the holster. With no enemies left, he didn't reload. One bullet was enough to deal with any unforeseen situations, and it was best to keep it as evidence. He would rather not complicate matters in case of any criticism. The 92F, just fitted with a new magazine, was full and also went back into the holster.
Jimmy returned to the police car and contacted the dispatch center via radio.
"Adam28 to dispatch, three suspects are down, one suspect has committed suicide, one suspect has fled into the woods, I am unable to pursue at this time. Firefight over, please send ambulances and tow trucks for three vehicles. Cancel backup. Over."
"Dispatch received. Are you injured? Do you require emergency aid?"
"I'm fine, no injuries."
"Dispatch received."
Jimmy didn't stay in the police car; he got out, leaned against it, and pulled out a pack of cigarettes to light one for himself.
After smoking for a while, Jimmy noticed his hand was shaking slightly. Just as he heard the sound of police sirens, he threw the cigarette on the ground and stamped it out.
