North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 839 - 499: Double-Cross (Part 2)
Jimmy looked at the time, drove to find a motel, packed all the items from the mission into a box, carried it into the room to rest, but he still made a call to Caitlin, "Mission complete."
Caitlin didn't say much on the other end, she just said "Good night" and hung up the phone.
Jimmy went to the bathroom to take a shower, turned on the TV, leaned against the pillow on the bed, watching TV while recalling the mission.
This mission was a bit reckless for Jimmy; he didn't know how many people there were, just judged from the equipment provided that there were not many, considering the handgun range wouldn't be far, if there had been a silenced AR-15 today, he wouldn't have needed to get close, the safety would have been much higher.
Even without the AR-15, having a silenced MP7 previously provided by the CIA would be fine, getting a bit closer, whether for suppressive fire or precise targeting, it wouldn't be a problem.
It wasn't just a weapon issue, also a handgun issue, Jimmy was not unfamiliar with the P226, he'd used it in Washington, D.C. before, but this time the shooting range was a bit far, resulting in an unexpected situation for him.
Jimmy was aware that installing a silencer would affect the bullet's trajectory point of impact.
While a silencer reduces the noise of gunfire, it also slows down the high-pressure gas and the jet speed and pressure of the gases produced after gunpowder burns, reducing the recoil of the gun. Deceleration and pressure reduction cause the bullet's initial speed to decrease, resulting in a deviation in the trajectory point of impact.
Previously, the shooting distance using a silencer was not far, probably around ten to twenty meters, at this distance, the deviation could be basically ignored, the drop distance was about 5 centimeters.
But this time the distance was extended to about 50 meters, the trajectory deviation was large, seriously affecting Jimmy's shooting effect of the first magazine, because Jimmy was aiming at the head, which was already a much smaller target, the predicted drop distance of the trajectory was about 40 centimeters.
For the first round of shooting, Jimmy shot quickly to surprise and suppress those five people, the consequence was not meeting his expected results because of silencer-induced trajectory deviations and the inability of fast shooting to maintain good muzzle control.
In the subsequent shooting, Jimmy considered the bullet deviation, deliberately aiming to raise the muzzle direction, achieving relative accuracy.
This also means Jimmy needs to train more for these specific situations in the future, getting familiar with the performance of various firearms and their attachments.
After completing the Portland mission, Jimmy conveniently headed towards Boston, which is southwest of Portland, also along the coast.
This time, the task at the wharf had almost no exposure, the bullets for his P226 were loaded in advance, without his fingerprints, and he'd been wearing gloves from the moment he entered the safe house, ensuring no fingerprint leaks. Complementing this with a temporary hat and mask purchased during the day, and the Bullet-Proof Vest altering his silhouette, even if someone was monitoring from a distance and taking pictures in the dark environment, it would be impossible to match his silhouette.
The next morning, Jimmy took his box and left the motel, looking for a café to rest well and take a glance at the newspapers and TV, needing to know whether yesterday's wharf incident would be reported.
His TV was almost non-stop all night to see if there was breaking news, but for the entire night, there was nothing. If the journalists here aren't completely incompetent, then the case hadn't been filed with the police.
With plenty of time now, while Jimmy sipped coffee and ate breakfast, he still didn't see any relevant information from the newspaper or the TV in the café corner.
For safety's sake, Jimmy decided to wait another day, both to see if there would be any reactions here, and also to give Caitlin some time to see if the task was complete or if there were any overlooked clues, or if a clean-up was required.
No matter how you look at it, this was Jimmy's first mission; he was still unsure if this was a private task of Caitlin's or a CIA mission, but it was best to ensure there's no loose ends, treated cleanly.
Having decided to rest for a day, Jimmy also planned to experience Portland's signature seafood properly.
Jimmy went out for a walk, bought a travel guide book on a whim, and eventually chose the Twilight Restaurant as his destination. This was a restaurant focusing on oysters and lobsters, with their lobster dish being the signature item.
He checked into a nearby hotel, took a stroll around the business district, and in the evening went to the Twilight Restaurant, ordering their signature lobster meal.
Drinking white wine, eating lobster and seafood, the oyster bisque appealed to Jimmy even more than the lobster, and surprisingly, the final dessert was lobster macarons and oyster macarons, quite unexpected indeed.
With a full belly, Jimmy returned to the hotel, and after a full day, there were still no traces of news about the pier shootout, which was reassuring.
The next morning, Jimmy checked out, drove out of Portland, and hit Route 95 heading straight to Boston.
Jimmy didn't abandon the box on the way, even though the CIA-issued handgun had been used last night, it appeared that the ballistics information for this gun had not yet been recorded in police records, so using it in Boston shouldn't be an issue.
This way he had two P226 pistols with silencers, and missing bullets could be easily purchased at any gun store, which wasn't an issue at all. Although gun store quantities were far less than pharmacies and convenience stores, a gun store could be found in any city, quite convenient.
Boston isn't a great tourist spot, not even for Jimmy, he didn't dare to wander around recklessly. Not because he was concerned about safety, but because any action taken could lead to unexpected circumstances, heaven forbid a wanted status; it would mean no more work could be done.
The overarching crime rate in Boston in 2005 was 4278 per 100,000 people, including violent crimes, property crimes, drug crimes, etc. Although it wasn't one of the top cities in the nation, it was still very dangerous. Just to mention, in 2005, the city with the highest crime rate was Saint Louis, Missouri, coming in at 21,901 per 100,000 people.
The most dangerous area in Boston was the southern part, and that's also where Jimmy's destination was this time, Dorchester (also translated as Dorothy Hill, but I will refer to the name as shown on Google Maps in Chinese). Of course, Jimmy expected this, as the people he was dealing with were gang members, and such individuals definitely inhabited places with higher levels of unrest.
Dorchester was a very large area in southern Boston, close to Quincy and Milton cities, covering over 20 city communities. The east was bordered by Boston Harbor, the west by Boston's city park system. There were both flourishing residential areas and commercial centers, as well as historic buildings and parks, and the complex structure of its residents also marked this area as one of the highest crime rate zones in Boston.
Jimmy had already reviewed the map and the information provided by Winston in advance, and now it was time for an on-the-ground assessment.
The vicinity of Franklin Park, being the largest park in Dorchester, was surrounded by numerous business districts, among which a three-story building was one of Jimmy's targets.
This building had no prominent signage outside, the entrance by the roadside was just a normal small door, appearing similar to the neighboring residential buildings.
But according to Winston's information, this building belonged to the Stranovilla Gang, and it had been specially transformed into an entertainment center by the gang for a long time.
The front entrance was merely a facade; entering through the front led to a row of residential rooms, but entering via the back door would reveal a whole new world.
There was an alley behind with a back door, upon inspection one could enter the hall, then sprawl across the corridors; the ground floor side housed an underground bar, part of the second-floor rooms contained a hidden gambling den run by the gang, while the third floor served as a lounge.
The basement had also been converted into an octagon arena, with the octagon in the center, surrounded by standing areas for the audience. Their finance room was also located in the basement, accessible by entering a corner and going through separate security checks.
(There's another chapter, might take another half an hour.)
