Jimmy: "Didn't notice? That's bad."

Jimmy stretched his legs, having dozed off with his feet up, his legs were still a bit numb. After a moment of stretching, Jimmy suddenly thought of Hughes' absence, Peter would do.

Jimmy: "Oh right, Peter, can you do me a favor?"

Peter nodded: "Sure, what is it?"

Jimmy: "Help me find out which department I'm going to be assigned to? Why hasn't it been decided yet?"

Peter frowned: "You've been suspended for two weeks and they still haven't decided? I see. You head back first, I'll ask around for you."

Jimmy patted Peter's arm: "Thanks, I'll head off then."

Jimmy left the conference room, and Peter stood there with his hands on his hips, looking a bit displeased.

It's been two weeks, and most people in the field department of the bureau know why Jimmy was suspended. Avenging one of our own, accepting the bureau's arrangements quietly without making a fuss. Now that he's back at work and still without a position, that's no small issue.

Jimmy isn't familiar with the higher-ups in the bureau, so he has no way to inquire. As for calling Hughes, he'd rather wait for news from Peter first.

Peter was quick, in the afternoon right before work ended, Peter called Jimmy and invited him out for a chat after work.

In Jimmy's bar, Peter and Jimmy walked in one after the other, grabbed some glasses at the bar, and sat at an empty table.

Peter: "Jimmy, the situation is a bit tricky."

Jimmy frowned and asked: "What's up?"

Peter: "There's no issue from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, whether you're in the Public Relations Department, the Records Department, or the Evidence Warehouse, they can all accept you. But someone wants you to be relocated, and Hughes has already gotten involved."

Jimmy: "Relocate?"

Peter nodded, took a sip from his glass: "The specific situation hasn't been determined yet, just that someone wants to transfer you from the Manhattan office. I can't ask too much, I can only tell you this for now."

Jimmy didn't say more, just drank while pondering the reason. He didn't think he had any disputes with the higher-ups. Reflecting on his experiences over the years, he really had no connections with the higher-ups, whether in cases or bureau relations, seemingly no contact at all.

The only possible connections with higher-ups are the two parties involved in his recent attack. One is that Senator, maybe he arranged something due to losing a subordinate and a source of money. A guy of his level can easily connect with the FBI's senior executives.

The other is Greg. Greg was taken down on Winston's order. There were no investigations targeting Greg's family or office, and Jimmy had no idea if Greg had mentioned anything about him to others. As a DHS consultant, it would also be easy for him to contact the senior executives in Jimmy's office.

Those were the only two possibilities that Jimmy could think of with higher-ups connections.

But these possibilities were indeed low. First, Greg was dead, even if he had previously contacted someone relevant, under the current situation, it's unlikely to proceed with any plans just as per his prior announcements.

The Senator's case is even less likely. Hughes personally came forward; with just one subordinate and income stream, if he wanted to take someone down, it wouldn't be Jimmy initially, but Hughes.

Jimmy finished his drink, got up to ask Woody at the bar for another, pouring himself more this time.

Returning to the table, Peter still hadn't finished his drink, looking worriedly at Jimmy. Clearly, he understood that Jimmy was pondering what went wrong to lead to his current situation.

Peter: "Any ideas?"

Jimmy shook his head: "Can't think of anyone who'd do this, maybe Hughes might know something."

Peter nodded: "I asked, Hughes went to Washington, D.C., and may return the day after tomorrow. Will you call him or wait until he's back?"

Jimmy: "I'll wait for him to come back, it's better to talk face to face about such matters, not safe over the phone."

Peter: "Yeah, so be careful these days, don't get into trouble." He finished his drink and stood up, "I'm off, Elizabeth is waiting for me."

Jimmy stood to see Peter off: "Drive safe on your way home."

After seeing Peter off, Jimmy greeted Woody, and then left the bar heading back to his apartment.

Having relaxed at the office for a day, Hughes finally returned. Hughes called Jimmy into the office, "Jimmy, did you offend someone?"

Jimmy shook his head: "I've been thinking for two days and still came up with nothing. Do you know what's going on?"

Hughes: "They have solid reasons. With your accomplishments, being in the Ministry of Internal Affairs would be a waste. Now you have two options: The first is hoping you'll transfer to Quantico for HRT assessment, where you can fully express your skills. The other option is to return to the Quantico Academy to be an instructor for two years, and then consider returning to the field department later."

Jimmy frowned: "Their goal is to transfer me away from the Manhattan office?"

Hughes nodded: "I haven't found the reason yet, but the Quantico Academy has already extended an offer, they'd be happy to have you if we release you."

Jimmy was genuinely taken aback; even the seasoned supervisor Hughes was unclear of the reason? Or perhaps... there were inconvenient reasons to disclose?

Hughes: "Oh, by the way, Mahoney was shot, he's recuperating at a hospital in Chicago."

Jimmy: "Is it serious?"

Hughes: "A bullet in the left chest, near the heart, but it's all good now, he's recovering."

Jimmy: "Then I guess he'll be out of the office for a while."

Hughes: "Yes, David will take over the Homicide Team. You take a rest for now, no need to report in until further notice."

Jimmy took a deep breath, "Got it. Since it's time off, I'll go check on Mahoney."

Hughes nodded, Jimmy turned and left his office. Watching Jimmy leave, Hughes' face changed as well, "You're too much, hope you enjoy this gift."

Jimmy returned to his office, tidied up his desk, said a word to David, and then left for home. He called Nia, saying he'd be going to Chicago to visit the injured Mahoney, then packed his suitcase and headed straight for the airport, flying to Chicago.

Only his badge and gun were confiscated, his FBI credentials were intact, so his identity was fine, carrying a revolver on board wasn't an issue, just the trouble of several hours of flying with no alcoholic drinks available.

Sigh, Jimmy's mood on the plane wasn't great at all, in his years with the FBI, all his superiors had faced bad luck.

Peter got shot, Ruiz got shot, Chris had cancer, Mahoney got shot... Except Hughes, none of the others had any luck. Mahoney was only returning to the Chicago office temporarily to investigate an escape case, how did he end up shot?

Knowing Mahoney's skills, Jimmy understood; Mahoney was surely among the top in FBI field agents for combat prowess, and with his keen mind, at most, he'd fail to find the escapees, how could he end up counter-striked? It wasn't logical.

Upon landing, Jimmy took a taxi to the Chicago office. He'd tried calling Mahoney beforehand, but the phone was off, so now he had to go to the Chicago office to check for his whereabouts.

Showing his FBI credentials, Jimmy smoothly entered the Chicago office, talked to some people there, stated he was Mahoney's subordinate from Manhattan visiting him, and soon got the hospital address from other agents.

Bringing a bouquet of flowers to the hospital, he looked through the door window of the room, making sure it was Mahoney lying there. Jimmy knocked, turned the handle, and entered the room: "Good evening, Mahoney. How's it going? How'd you end up being careless?"
