North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 857 - 507: Open for Business
Jimmy walked to Mahong's office, "Wanna chat outside?"
Mahong looked at Jimmy, thought for a moment, got up, and left the office with him.
Jimmy: "Anything else you need me to wrap up for you?"
Mahong: "You guessed it?"
Jimmy nodded, Mahong took a deep breath, handed Jimmy an address and a key, "There's a car there, the trunk needs clearing out, and the car needs to be disposed of."
Jimmy: "Who?"
Mahong: "Special Service Bureau agent, blond guy."
Jimmy: "You're still in contact with them?"
Mahong: "Yeah, I need to lure them out."
Jimmy: "Are you handling it yourself? You're not in any condition for strenuous activities."
Mahong said nothing, looked around the street, nodded, "I'll use the fugitives' info to draw Bill King and his team to Chicago, then I can deal with them."
Jimmy: "When?"
Mahong: "Might take a few days."
Jimmy nodded, "Remember to call me, even if it's just for insurance. Stop taking those meds, there's nothing left to worry about now, trust me."
Jimmy finished speaking, turned and headed to the parking lot.
"Ring ring," Mahong's phone rang, he picked up the call, listened for a bit, then hung up without saying much.
"Jimmy!" Mahong called out, waving a hand, Jimmy turned his head to look at him, and came back.
Mahong: "King's people have been found, in the Evgreen Park area."
Jimmy: "How'd you find them?"
Mahong: "The deceased agent's phone had some numbers, some couldn't be traced, presumably their Special Service Bureau numbers, three unregistered phones' locations clustered together."
Jimmy: "Give me the addresses and numbers, can anyone pull up surveillance? Let's take a look at the scene."
Mahong shook his head: "Can't be done, my people can't access the surveillance."
"Ring ring," Mahong's phone rang again, "Who are you?... Where?... OK."
Mahong hung up and looked at Jimmy, "He wants to meet me."
Jimmy: "I'll cover you, let's go."
Mahong nodded, they headed to the parking lot, Jimmy swapped out his car's plates with the ones Mahong had just helped get. Mahong watched Jimmy finish before driving his car in the lead, Jimmy followed behind.
As Mahong neared the destination, he called Jimmy, "We're almost there, across from Thomas's Auto Shop, under the overpass. Don't follow too closely."
Jimmy: "Got it."
Jimmy slowed down, creating some distance, while Mahong continued driving until he parked under the overpass. No one was there yet, Jimmy drove a bit forward, turned at the intersection, and parked, looking back at Mahong's position.
A while later, a car stopped behind Mahong's, four people got out, walking toward Mahong.
Jimmy exited his car, phone to his ear, watching from around the corner, since Mahong didn't have his phone on him, leaving it in the car. The sound wasn't very loud through the open window, just barely audible.
Of the four who exited the car, two stayed back, and two stood opposite Mahong, after just a few words, Jimmy heard, "What exactly do you want?"
Mahong spoke a few words, but quietly, couldn't be heard clearly, Jimmy regretted not using a wiretap instead.
That's the issue with old-fashioned flip phones, Jimmy and Mahong were using FBI-provided flip phones, specially made for security. When closed, the call was automatically cut off; when open in your pocket, they were too conspicuous.
Damn, it might have gone south, Jimmy noticed the two in the back drawing handguns without raising them yet, but it looked dangerous.
Jimmy immediately walked over from the corner, phone in hand, along the street, dressed in a suit and wearing sunglasses, making a phone call, looked just like an ordinary passerby, non-threatening.
Mahong, partially blocked by the two in front, could still see the gun in the hand of someone in the back, and slightly swiveled his head, seemingly scanning the area to prevent anyone from overhearing, but actually looking for Jimmy's position.
Seeing Jimmy emerge from the corner, he knew what to do, suppressing his anger, humbly explaining a few words, and when Jimmy got within about 20 meters, he suddenly pushed the person in front of him, crouched low, and lunged toward a bridge pillar.
The man who got pushed didn't expect Mahong to make a move despite being outnumbered, stumbled back a couple of steps, and then reached for his gun to aim at Mahong.
Meanwhile, the person right next to Mahong had already lunged at him barehanded, and the two in the back were running toward the pillar with guns drawn.
All four men were focused on Mahong, not noticing Jimmy coming. Mahong, having prepped beforehand, crouched while lunging for the pillar, pulled a gun from his waist, and without aiming, fired from the hip as the attacker got close. "Bang bang bang" gunfire rang out, and chaos erupted.
Mahong's shots served as a signal, and the other three, disregarding their comrade lunging at Mahong, opened fire at his position, mostly hitting the bridge pillar. They continued shooting while advancing toward Mahong, the situation was dire.
Jimmy shouted from the back: "FBI, drop your weapons." While yelling, he drew his imitation Colt Python, unloading the cylinder at the three shooters. The three were focused on Mahong's position and only reacted when Jimmy fired, realizing there was someone else, and by the time they turned to aim at Jimmy, they were all hit.
