After Jimmy left, Dave's wife Lucy returned to the ward. The couple chatted a bit more and then rested.

Jimmy told the police officer on security duty next to him to take a break, as he would watch over things. Since the FBI had said so, the officer didn't decline and leaned against the wall on his chair, soon drifting off. The hospital ward quickly returned to peace.

In the early morning, Lucy gently opened the door. Jimmy glanced over, nodded, and continued to watch the corridor. The police officer beside him was still nodding off, and Jimmy didn't wake him up.

To make himself look a bit pitiful, Jimmy didn't close Heart Eye all night, making his eyes bloodshot and his demeanor slightly groggy. In reality, enduring another day wouldn't be much of an issue.

Lucy left for a while and then returned to the ward. Jimmy woke the officer to have him watch for a while, went to the nurse's station, and got the restaurant next door's phone number to order takeout. Of course, he included a portion for the officer.

When the takeout arrived, Jimmy carried two large bags into the ward. "Mr. Hudson, Mrs. Hudson, I brought breakfast. I made the call myself, so it should be safe."

Lucy: "Thank you, Jimmy, sorry for the trouble."

Jimmy: "You're welcome."

Jimmy opened the bags, took out two egg sandwiches and coffee, and left the rest for Dave and Lucy to handle.

A while later, Lucy called Jimmy inside. Dave was already sitting up, and the sandwiches on the table were gone, leaving only a cup of coffee.

Dave: "Jimmy, someone will come to relieve you later, you can go investigate. I've already communicated with the Miami office; you can participate in the investigation as the Manhattan office's liaison."

Jimmy: "Do I have enforcement authority?"

Dave: "Decide for yourself, submit a report later."

Jimmy: "Understood."

Dave: "The Miami office's in-charge is Christopher Lee; he's at the shooting scene."

Dave gave Jimmy a phone number and address, which Jimmy noted on his phone and turned to leave. After a while, two men in suits arrived at the ward door. After confirming their identities with Dave inside, Jimmy allowed the two to enter the ward.

The new guys were security guards from a company Dave found, and they would take turns following Dave and Lucy, ensuring that at least one person was with them 24 hours a day.

Lucy, having stayed overnight, also needed to return to the hotel to rest. Jimmy once again got the taxi company's phone number from the nurse's station and booked a taxi, accompanying Lucy to the hotel.

Jimmy didn't look for another place; instead, he booked a room at the hotel. Although a bit pricey, it was at least convenient.

For convenience when going out, Jimmy filled out information at the front desk to rent a car. By the time he got out of the shower in his hotel room, the rental car was already parked at the hotel entrance. High-end hotels are convenient; service is their real advantage, and the front desk can do a lot.

Jimmy didn't choose to sleep in the hotel first; instead, he went directly to the shooting scene, a large villa with a main building of at least 500 square meters, or more than 5000 square feet. In front, there were two small lawns, and facing the beach direction, there was a backyard with a pool and large grass area, though it seemed connected to the neighboring area, likely making it a public area.

Several cars were already parked in front of the villa, including a few police cars. The caution tape wound from the front to the side, circling around the villa.

Jimmy showed his credentials and entered the villa's hall, seeing someone with an FBI badge investigating the scene. He approached, "Hi, I'm Jimmy Yang from the FBI Manhattan office. Can you tell me which one is Agent Christopher Lee?"

The investigating agent turned to look at Jimmy and, seeing his credentials, extended a hand to shake, "Joshua Brown, Miami office. Lee is doing witness interviews and hasn't arrived yet."

Jimmy: "Where can I find him?"

Joshua: "Palm Beach Police, hospital, hotel, he's possibly in several places. If you're not in a rush, you might want to wait outside."

Jimmy thought for a moment and nodded. Not familiar with the area, rushing out to find someone could well be a wasted effort. "I'll wait in the car outside. Please notify me when he returns."

Joshua: "Sure." He watched as Jimmy turned away and then returned to the investigation.

Jimmy didn't ask Joshua about his findings. With his limited authority and Dave's role as deputy director not allowing detailed cross-office arrangements, Jimmy needed to wait until Christopher Lee arrived at the scene to discuss things, after which he could inquire about the progress from others.

Jimmy sat in the car, put on sunglasses to block the light, and fell asleep that way.

"Knock knock knock." Jimmy opened his eyes, seeing an older man outside the car, although just middle-aged with mostly white hair, appearing in his 50s. Jimmy unbuckled his seatbelt, opened the car door, and got out, "Jimmy Yang, from the Manhattan office."

Christopher Lee shook hands with Jimmy, "Christopher Lee, Miami office. You got here fast."

Jimmy: "I arrived early this morning, stayed at the hospital overnight. Lee, how's your investigation going?"

Lee: "Just finished all the involved parties' statements, with nothing particularly noteworthy. Let's go inside to talk."

Jimmy nodded, following Lee into the villa. As they walked, Lee said, "Yesterday's shooting was fortunate for those present; only two people are critically injured and still in ER, while seven others were shot but not critically."

Jimmy: "And the gunmen?"

Lee: "The number is uncertain, but we conservatively estimate more than three. One or two were found on the villa's second floor, and two towards the beach, one on an inflatable boat, another on the beach."

Jimmy: "An inflatable boat? Have you found it?"

Lee nodded, "Found the inflatable boat on the north beach, but it was burnt, leaving no usable clues. There's only one surveillance camera in the spot that captured them, only showing two figures, not even clear if they're male or female, let alone their appearance."

Jimmy: "What weapons did they use?"

Lee: "The ones on the second floor used semi-automatic pistols, currently believed to be Glocks, but model unknown. Since the security also fired, we haven't established their firing patterns yet; we'll need the measurement results."

Jimmy: "What's their target? Did the homeowner mention anything?"

Lee: "You think alike. They're likely stealing something, timing it with an outdoor event which would reduce the number of people inside the villa and keep attention away from them. But Daniel hasn't confirmed the items inside the rooms, so we don't know if anything's missing yet."

Jimmy: "How's the homeowner, Daniel Rivera?"

Lee: "In the hospital, shot twice, one of the two seriously injured people. One bullet pierced his chest, and fragments punctured the diaphragm. Luckily, he has money, so he's in the hospital's hands now; he should survive."

Jimmy was speechless; poor guy got caught in quite a mess. Even if the doctors can save him, he'll likely need a lengthy hospital stay, which means determining if anything's missing from the house won't happen anytime soon.

Jimmy: "What about the second-floor gunman? How did he escape?"

Lee: "No one saw him escape. We've got the guest list from the dinner and contacted everyone on it, but the villa's surveillance system was tampered with. In fact, none of the footage from after 4 p.m. was recorded."

Jimmy: "Seems like there's a lot to deal with in this case; you guys have your hands full."

Lee: "Indeed, but we can't pass the case to local police. It's up to us."

Jimmy: "Okay, I'm just here to tag along with this case, won't disrupt your investigation. You guys do your work, I'll watch from the sidelines."

Lee: "By the way, how's Deputy Director Dave Hudson?"

Jimmy chuckled, "He's fine, took a bullet to the right shoulder; shoulder blade was pierced, so he'll need considerable time to recover."

The two arrived at the second floor, where Lee started examining the shooting scene, and forensic personnel were collecting fingerprint information.
