North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 879 - 517: New Department, New Atmosphere?
Jimmy was still puzzled when Tim smiled and said no more, "You'll know when you get there. Have a good rest. Hughes?"
Hughes: "Jimmy, work hard when you get there, you'll be back. Let's go, Tim."
Tim nodded and left the Homicide Team office with Hughes.
After they left, David White, who had been waiting at the door, came in, "Yo, Jimmy, looks like you're moving out today."
Jimmy was still quite puzzled, but that didn't stop him from drinking tea, "Sit down, David, are you familiar with the Public Affairs Office?"
David didn't stand on ceremony, he sat straight on the sofa and took a cup, Jimmy poured him some tea, "Not very familiar, but the logistics department is definitely more relaxed than our field department. Go have a good rest there, and you can come back when it's about time."
Jimmy shrugged, "Alright, it seems I'll only know what I'll specifically be doing once I'm there. Cheers."
After drinking his tea, Jimmy left the tea set there, took a cardboard box, and began packing up his desk. He didn't need to bring files and documents, as those belonged to the Homicide Team. He only needed to pack his personal items like various honor badges, water cup, paper and pen, and other odds and ends, as well as the spare bullets in the drawer and the retired S&W M686-1 revolver.
Yes, Jimmy didn't keep this gun at home but left it at the bureau as a backup. He had a spare gun in the home safe, another one, an 1875, always in the safe and never taken out, while he carried other guns with him; having one at the bureau was convenient for emergencies.
Holding his box, Jimmy went to the Public Affairs Office upstairs. Downstairs was mainly field agents and administrative logistics departments. The Public Affairs Office was upstairs because they mainly dealt with external promotions, so they interacted with many outside agencies and public figures. Working together with the FBI field team in the same area would affect both parties.
Arriving at the Public Affairs Office, Jimmy exchanged a few words with the receptionist, asked for a name, and she made an internal call and called out the supervising assistant Isabel Martinez.
Soon, a woman in a business suit came out. She looked around her 30s, Caucasian, with long hair, a pleasant face, very beautiful.
Isabel walked up to Jimmy with a smile and shook his hand, "Isabel Martinez. Welcome, Yang."
Jimmy smiled back, "Jimmy Yang."
Isabel: "Come with me, we've already prepared a seat for you."
Holding the box, Jimmy walked beside Isabel into the office area.
Isabel: "We know what you've done, well done."
Jimmy: "Ah, it's what I should do, we're all colleagues. Has it spread around?"
Isabel: "Of course, but don't worry, no one will say anything. This is your office, please come in."
Jimmy cluelessly "Hm?" His voice was confused, what's going on? As a newcomer, this department had a single-person room with glass walls?
Jimmy looked at Isabel, "Is this for me?"
Isabel replied with a smile, "Yes, put your things down first, and then come with me to meet Supervisor Eleanor Mason."
Jimmy nodded, put the box on the desk, and followed Isabel towards the inside supervisor's office.
Isabel knocked on the glass door, then walked right in, "Mrs. Mason, Jimmy Yang is here."
Eleanor Mason, who appeared to be in her 50s or 60s, had a slightly thin face. Her skin didn't look great, evident forehead and crow's feet wrinkles, but she had a good base and was definitely a beauty decades ago. She probably had blonde hair, now appearing mostly gray.
Eleanor stood up, reached over the desk to shake hands with Jimmy, "Welcome, Yang. Isabel, thank you."
Isabel nodded and gestured, turned, and left the office, closing the door on her way out.
It was apparent that the Public Affairs Office was likely a female-dominated department, with both the supervisor and the assistant being women.
Eleanor: "Please, sit. May I call you Jimmy?"
Jimmy nodded with a smile, "Of course, Mrs. Mason."
Eleanor: "I've been hearing your name a lot recently. How does it feel transferring from fieldwork to the Ministry of Internal Affairs?"
Jimmy: "It's all for our collective family, the department doesn't matter. Don't worry, I'm okay with it."
Eleanor nodded, regardless of what Jimmy actually thought, his attitude was worth affirming, "How much do you know about the Public Affairs Office?"
Jimmy: "Not much, I've always been in the field department, only spending a very short time on the administrative side."
Eleanor: "Yes, we are the official media and public affairs liaison for the Manhattan office, responsible for providing information and consultation to the public, media, and other key stakeholders.
We aim to enhance public awareness and understanding of our FBI's work, strengthen civic education and ideology, ensure the FBI's image and visibility with the public, and maintain an unbiased and transparent image in society."
Jimmy listened and nodded, keeping a smile on his face, though it was relatively reserved, a closed-mouth smile with one corner of his mouth slightly upturned.
Eleanor: "In short, aside from some specific case notification handled by certain field department groups themselves, all other media and institutional interactions are our responsibility, and even those cases, when self-managed, require our support. Understand?"
