New department, new materials. The case files Jimmy used to read are basically useless here. Looking at the speech draft in front of him, Jimmy suddenly felt like he was illiterate.

Apart from some introductory content, most of it was actually full of roundabout words. It seemed like an illusion, but it felt like the Q&A following these speeches had almost no substantial content.

However, once you start digging, you realize the FBI really does a lot. Just in the last few months, there have been numerous corruption investigations, murders, cyber fraud, financial fraud announcements. Of course, not all held press conferences; many were simply brief posts on the website.

It's almost clear that New York is truly a chaotic place. The New York most people come into contact with is completely different from the New York that departments like the FBI deal with.

Ordinary people may hear about some messy affairs through TV and newspapers, but most of them are resolved within the NYPD's scope, whereas the FBI handles cases only known at the time of public announcement, with little information leaked beforehand.

Jimmy flipped forward; the case of the FBI agent being shot was also published. But according to the press release, the details of this case weren't involved. It merely mentioned a shootout occurred while chasing the shooting suspect, resulting in the suspect being killed, without disclosing who handled the case.

That's fine too; internal FBI handling, without escalating outside, is a good thing. If such matters were widely publicized, unforeseen troubles could occur later; the hyena lawyers wouldn't let the FBI off this tasty morsel.

After an afternoon of looking at documents, Jimmy left the office and moved the box to his car to drive home.

His FBI-assigned car was still there; when Tim retrieved his badge and gun, he didn't take back his car. So although he's not doing fieldwork anymore, he still drives around in the iconic Suburban during the day.

At dawn, Jimmy was resting when the phone suddenly rang. It wasn't Jimmy's usual FBI ringtone. He turned and glanced at it, an unknown number. He answered: "Yellowstone, the target has left DC."

"Time?"

"Unknown, waiting for notification."

"OK."

Jimmy hung up directly. Luckily, Nia had gone back home for two days. If she heard Jimmy answering the phone, who knows what might have happened.

He checked the time; now it was past 4 a.m. Jimmy couldn't sleep anymore and leaned on the bed, contemplating the matter.

This time, when Caitlin asked him to go to Langley headquarters, Jimmy didn't think too much. As the Director of the New York Anti-Terrorism Bureau and a senior manager at the CIA, Caitlin frequently shuttling between New York and Langley was normal.

Idle as it was, going for a trip didn't bother him. The black-task Caitlin previously gave was arranged in an office at Langley headquarters, and later he considered that task should have been Caitlin's own private assignment.

Upon reaching Langley and going to the conference room for the case briefing, Jimmy realized something was wrong. Since this case was already being treated as an official task at Langley, it surely needed to be archived.

Jimmy had previously agreed with Caitlin; Caitlin couldn't have Jimmy retire, so the agreement was for him to continue dormant, in return for him doing some private tasks for Caitlin, like the previous one to Portland.

Now, becoming an official task affected the agreement between Jimmy and Caitlin because she broke the trust between the two.

But now wasn't the time to fall out with Caitlin. This case had already started, and even if he were to fall out with Caitlin now, many records would remain in the archive. Even eliminating Caitlin wouldn't resolve this issue.

Better to finish this task first, and then have a proper talk with Caitlin later; there has to be an explanation.

Another issue now is that he's already in the public affairs office, unable to go on fieldwork. He needs a reason to reach the scene, which requires handling.

He can't do it on his own, but it should be easy enough to handle. The Anti-Terrorism Bureau and FBI have collaborated quite a bit before; previously it was Watson contacting Hughes, now just a call from Caitlin would suffice.

Jimmy's lips curled into a smile. Caitlin, since you've pulled me out for a mission, of course, you need to handle the aftermath.

Jimmy waited a bit more, and around 5 a.m., he picked up the unmarked CIA phone and called Caitlin, "Caitlin, it's Jimmy. The intelligence just arrived; the target has left DC."

Caitlin was not in good spirits; her voice sounded off, "I know. Is there anything else?"

Jimmy: "Of course, there's something serious that requires handling from your side."

Caitlin: "Go ahead."

Jimmy: "I need you to contact the bureau, find a reason to get me out. I'm already transferred to the public affairs office, part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and can't propose a reason for fieldwork anymore."

Caitlin: "You'll have to figure it out yourself."

Jimmy: "Caitlin... then I don't think you'll see me at any location today, except the FBI office at Federal Square."

Caitlin fell silent directly; Jimmy didn't speak, just kept the phone by his ear waiting. After a long while, Caitlin finally spoke, "I know, I'll take care of it." With that, she hung up the phone.
