North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 961 - 554: Raid (Part 2)
Jimmy also ran behind, observing left and right while occasionally looking down at his feet.
It was his first time at this manor, he had no idea if there were tunnels or other spaces here. Everyone else only had intelligence to conduct a strong raid on the manor, and they hadn't discussed internal details in the prior briefing. It seemed Winston and his side were also in a dire situation and had to arrange a raid to resolve the case under inadequate conditions.
To ensure dealing with the people here, Jimmy had to be ready to handle various situations, including escape routes like tunnels, so he had to rely on himself now.
Under the main building, there could be confirmed a large space, a few meters from the ground, with two passageways leading down: one on the left and the other slightly right of center. Both passages appeared quite steep, especially the right one, which seemed to lead directly up and down and should be used for movement. This was their safehouse, or as it's more popularly called, the Doomsday Fortress.
Jimmy hadn't reached the main building when gunfire erupted from the stables on the left. The voice of the Anti-Terrorism Team leader came through his earphones: "Shots fired, raid."
Bill and other agents, along with the Anti-Terrorism Team from the main gate security booth, rushed in through the main gate, shouting as they went: "Department of Homeland Security!"
Jimmy didn't follow them as he saw people moving in the workshop building on the side. From their movements, it was clear all three were armed. The building, known as the workshop, had not shown any occupants when surveyed by drone before, so it was marked as a secondary target. Unexpectedly, there were three gunmen inside.
Jimmy turned his head and ran towards the adjacent workshop, "FBI! Drop your weapon!"
He was met with blind fire from the opponents. They couldn't see Jimmy, they only heard his voice. Three people from the nearby building had already reached the doorway and began firing towards Jimmy's direction.
Hiding at the corner of a wall, Jimmy called out "FBI" again, squatted down, and fired three shots at the two exposed targets, then rolled on the ground to take down the third one who was blocking the view at the door.
"Three hostiles down at the right workshop," Jimmy reported through his earpiece, stepped forward to kick away the guns of the three, and entered the workshop.
In the rooms inside, several people were shivering behind beds and other furniture. One had even crawled under a bed. Seeing that they had no intention of resisting with firearms, Jimmy decided not to clear room by room but shouted, "FBI! Everyone drop your weapons and surrender!" He then planned to have them all bound for safety.
Gunfire from the main house continued sporadically. Jimmy knew the amount of ammunition his team carried and wasn't worried for them, for the moment.
He was about to check each room in the workshop when a message came through his earphones: "I've been shot, provide cover."
Jimmy scanned the workshop, confirmed nobody seemed prepared to emerge. He glanced at the ground, noting a warehouse underneath, with a seemingly elevator entrance nearby, but since it was unoccupied, he ignored it.
Leaving the workshop, he headed for the main building, avoiding the main entrance where someone was standing guard over a fallen man, presumably the one who had been shot. As the guard was armed and on alert, it seemed secure, so Jimmy moved around back.
At the rear, he found a side door and someone rushing towards it. Jimmy didn't have time to enter the room so he confronted the person around the corner, breaking the glass on the door and unlocking it from inside before charging in.
Anyone holding a gun could be considered a potential target. Jimmy identified allies by their stances, as the Anti-Terrorism Team exhibited CQB military style, while agents typically took cover behind corners before shooting. Their actions were consistent, and being the attackers, they were easily distinguished.
Therefore, anyone inside the room shooting at them had to be a target within the house.
Jimmy roughly counted ten people who were still returning fire. Several bodies lay on the ground, likely killed or wounded.
"I've been hit," another voice reported through the earpiece, this time from an Anti-Terrorism Team member. He was sitting on the floor, using his hands to push himself to a wall while a comrade provided covering fire, ensuring his retreat to a safe zone.
The Anti-Terrorism Team and agents wore bullet-proof vests, albeit soft ones effective mainly against handgun rounds, which was still quite good.
Though the main residence was dimly lit, illuminated only by emergency and ambiance lighting, it posed no obstacle to Jimmy.
"Bill, I entered through the back door, watch for crossfire," Jimmy announced over the radio. He then joined Bill and others in the living room, dispatching an assailant blocking their way as he went.
Jimmy: "How's everyone holding up?"
Bill: "Thomas took a hit; the others are fine."
Spotting only one enemy in the room ahead and several more on the upper floor, Jimmy instructed, "Hold your positions, I'll handle this."
Without waiting for Bill's response, Jimmy eased out from his position, crept to the room's doorway, quickly fired two shots inside, sidestepped to fire another, before calling out "Clear." He then stepped away from the door.
Although his clip wasn't depleted, Jimmy still replaced the magazine, moving from the doorway to the side of the staircase. An opponent upstairs held a rifle trained on the stairway. His advantageous position would make anyone ascending likely fall, given that the top of the stairs was within his shooting range.
Jimmy knew this foe wasn't easy, so didn't want anyone else to tackle it. Drawing his Python, he ascended the stairs, aimed his revolver overhead, and fired, hitting the target, and followed with another shot before proceeding to the second floor.
With his gunfire ringing, others began to ascend, and the Anti-Terrorism Team cleared the left side of the main floor. The situation resolved, except for the injured, they converged upstairs.
In such scenarios, it's key to minimize friendly casualties. Jimmy holstered his Glock and moved forward with his Python revolver. There were three on the left, only two on the right upstairs, and of those, one hid behind a bed, leaving one to handle for the Anti-Terrorism Team.
Holding the revolver in both hands, Jimmy advanced. As one poked their head out of a room, he quickly took them down, then aimed at the back of the room.
"FBI, drop your weapons and surrender."
Advancing while issuing commands, Jimmy reached the first room, glanced briefly, then moved deeper.
The second room housed the last two threats here. At the door, holding a rifle, Jimmy ducked low, slid forward abruptly, then fired two shots at the rifle-wielding individual at the door—he tumbled backward after pulling the trigger just once.
The final person inside abruptly shouted, "Don't shoot..."
However, he was too late. Jimmy had already mapped out his actions, deciding earlier on his shooting order to ensure his own safety. After hitting the first with two shots, he had already shifted his aim, and the last two bullets were already fired.
After firing, Jimmy rolled to a wall corner, sitting up to simulate avoiding any remaining threats within the room, before replenishing his empty revolver with spare ammunition from a pouch.
Once ready, with others on alert behind him, Jimmy checked all three rooms in this area. "Area secure."
Converging towards the Anti-Terrorism Team's position, their side had also resolved matters. The enemy at the entrance had been riddled with bullets, and though he had only shown a small portion of his body at the door, the walls here provided little resistance to rifle rounds, resulting in his being shot through.
