North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 965 - 556: Heading to Alaska (Part 2)
Kevin: "When is the operation scheduled?"
Jimmy: "I wasn't involved, but I remember the info said around 3 AM."
Kevin: "Got it, no worries then. Alright, you carry on. We'll be here for another week."
Jimmy: "Okay, goodbye, Kevin."
Jimmy hung up the phone and looked at the busy Bill and his team. There wasn't much to do here, so Jimmy thought for a moment and called Bill over, "Bill, is there anything else to handle here?"
Bill raised an eyebrow at Jimmy: "You want to go back?"
Jimmy shrugged, "I basically have nothing to do here. If you don't have anything arranged, I'll go back to New York and rest for a few days."
Bill thought for a moment, then nodded and patted Jimmy's arm: "Sure, when I go back, I'll bring the report for you to sign. Take a good rest for a few days."
Jimmy shook hands with others to say goodbye: "That's settled then, I'll head back to New York, you carry on."
Bill arranged for an agent to drop Jimmy off at the airport. Although Albany isn't far from New York, Jimmy hadn't driven; he had come in Bill's car.
Having a gun on the plane is a hassle, but it's just a matter of going through procedures; Jimmy was used to it.
Back in New York, Jimmy didn't intend to go to work. It's the perfect time to slack off now; going to work voluntarily would be foolish.
After resting for a night, he first got the shot-up CLS out of the bureau's parking lot and directly sent it to the repair shop the next day.
Jimmy had already contacted the insurance company. Given Jimmy's profession and the car being caught in a shootout, the insurance company required Jimmy to take the car to the repair shop for a complete evaluation to determine repair costs.
Going through insurance procedures is the most troublesome, but Jimmy had more time now and was free, providing an opportunity to handle the insurance matter. The key is that the insurance company's person gave Jimmy a small tip face-to-face: they will compensate according to the contract this time, but afterwards, Jimmy's insurance premiums might increase, which needs to be confirmed upon return.
Jimmy was quite helpless; the car being shot wasn't intentional on his part. But since the insurance company said so, there's nothing to be done. If worst comes to worst, try a different insurance company later.
Repairing the CLS would take considerable time; the store temporarily provided a secondhand C240 for Jimmy to use, saving him the trouble of buying another car. The reason he ended up with only a C240 was that Jimmy needed it urgently, with no other models available. It'll have to do; it's better than his Mercury anyway.
Driving the temporary C240, Jimmy arrived at the Intercontinental Hotel. He'd made a call on the way; Charon was off today and not at the hotel, but Winston was always there, so it was fine.
The receptionist had received the call, and after Jimmy provided his name, he was led to the basement bar.
Even during the day, the basement bar had quite a few people, though no performances on stage now. Winston was still in his usual spot, wearing glasses and playing a crossword puzzle in the newspaper. Jimmy sat opposite Winston, "Winston."
Winston looked up at Jimmy and smiled, removing his glasses: "Jimmy, are you done over there?"
Jimmy: "Yeah, they're investigating and interrogating at the manor now. I came back first."
Winston: "Nicely done. Seems like you gained quite a bit."
Jimmy: "That's not my concern anymore. What about you guys? Is this matter wrapped up?"
Winston: "Certainly, it's concluded."
Jimmy: "And what about that training camp in Canada?"
Winston: "Oh, it has no connection to your current matters now, the Deep Red Rose organization has been cleared out. What's left are insignificant figures, nothing to worry about."
Jimmy: "I'm certainly fine, mainly worrying about my family. You know, I'm getting married soon, just a few months away."
Winston: "I assure you, there won't be any problems."
Jimmy took a deep breath and exhaled slowly: "Alright then, let's hope it's like that."
Winston: "Okay, since it's all settled, let's have a drink. Adi, a Bourbon."
Winston signaled at the bar, and the beautiful bartender Adi smiled, nodded, and turned to prepare the drink, grabbing a glass from beneath the counter, pouring, and serving it, "Mr. Yang, Booker Bourbon."
Jimmy picked up the glass: "Thanks, Adi."
Winston took a sip from his Martini, "What's your plan afterward?"
Jimmy: "Me? I don't have any particular thoughts, I'm an FBI agent, so naturally, doing case work. My biggest plan lately is handling the upcoming wedding properly." Of course, Jimmy hadn't mentioned he was trying to get back into the field work department.
Winston: "Oh, I understand."
Jimmy: "Winston, I actually wanted to bring something up with you."
Winston: "Oh? Go ahead."
Jimmy: "This period has been really frustrating, could your people keep quiet for a bit, let me get my wedding sorted properly. I'm not always this restrained, and New York can't have any more terrorist attacks."
Winston's expression showed little change, silent for a moment, then said: "I'll see what I can do."
Jimmy: "That'd be best. Cheers."
Jimmy finished his drink, got up to say goodbye, and left. Winston only got up to watch Jimmy leave, then sat back down, put on his glasses, and continued playing the crossword puzzle with a pencil.
There was actually one more question Jimmy wanted to ask but didn't. Mainly because he wasn't sure if it was appropriate.
Winston had mentioned earlier that the high-table had arranged a family to handle this matter, DHS raided the manor, and if anyone escaped, the family arranged by them would handle it. Jimmy's raid was likely very effective, though unclear if anyone escaped, so he had wanted to ask about it.
But until he left, he hadn't asked because involving another family, asking about mafia families wasn't necessarily appropriate. Moreover, even if they caught someone, they might not tell him.
After all, Jimmy is an FBI agent; really asking about mafia family matters might be seen as provocative by them. No one wants to leave a handle with the FBI, even if that handle has no real harm.
Back at the apartment, Jimmy tidied up a bit, called Bill, then booked a flight to Anchorage, Alaska. Once preparations were made, he dragged the luggage to JFK Airport, headed to the northernmost state in the United States.
Jimmy rented an SUV from the airport and set off, using the navigation based on the address Nia provided, finally arriving at their rental vacation cabin in the evening.
When Nia opened the door and saw Jimmy standing outside, she screamed and jumped directly into his arms, while Kevin's parents watched their reunion scene, showing gratified smiles.
After hugging and greeting Kevin and his wife, Jimmy could finally take off his heavy coat, "Alaska isn't as cold as I imagined, I thought I'd be driving in the icy snow."
Kevin: "You overthought it, it's September now, not quite the season. If it were later by over a month, you could see heavy snow."
Kevin and Jimmy sat on the sofa; Nia and her mother left the living room, letting them chat, not before handing Jimmy a cup of hot tea.
Jimmy: "Hmm, it's been ages since seeing a snowy day. New York's snow doesn't feel that way."
Kevin: "Shall we change places? Go to the Arctic? Haha. How did things go over there, with your work?"
Jimmy: "No problem now. I came here to hang out with you all, then we head back to New York together."
Kevin: "OK, let's change locations tomorrow then. We've been here for over a week, tired of the surrounding scenery."
