North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 966 - 557: Return to New York
The cabin wasn't big, with one master bedroom and one secondary bedroom, but the latter only had a camp bed, originally for Nia. Now that Jimmy was here, there was nowhere to lie down.
However, it wasn't a big deal. Jimmy was easy to settle, letting Nia have the bed while he slept directly on the sofa.
Nia and her mother made Jimmy some fried eggs and threw together a sandwich with some vegetables to tide him over. It was already late, so a simple meal would suffice.
Jimmy recounted the recent events to Nia and Kevin, focusing on the two terror-level incidents that occurred in New York City: the rocket incident and the hospital shooting. Although Kevin had some information from the police, it couldn't compare to what Jimmy had. The intelligence from the DHS wasn't shared with the NYPD.
The reason for Kevin and his family leaving was also explained. Nia was filled with a sense of lingering fear. Had she and her colleagues continued with that previous murder case, the following incidents might have all fallen on the NYPD, the scale of their losses would have been unpredictable; not every organization had someone like Jimmy.
The terror attacks stemmed entirely from a murder case Nia's team was investigating. The female assassin alone, if pursued by Nia's team, could have led to serious trouble, regardless of whether it was her or Perkins.
The conversation finally touched upon the recent raid on the manor, which was straightforward as most participants were DHS personnel; Jimmy hadn't contributed much, thus ending the topic.
Checking the time, Kevin and his family headed back to the master bedroom to rest. Jimmy and Nia sat on the couch, talking softly about the past few days' itinerary. Soon, urged by Jimmy, Nia returned to rest, leaving Jimmy to sleep on the sofa.
Early the next morning, before dawn broke, Jimmy woke up.
Normally, he required little sleep. After absorbing Black Rainbow, his spiritual power enhanced, reducing his need from seven hours to five, then now down to three or four hours without feeling groggy during the day.
If there was nothing pressing, he'd linger in bed longer, but sleeping on the sofa urged an early rise to avoid awkwardness with his in-laws. Right time, wrong place, it couldn't be helped.
Jimmy went to freshen up, noticing the slight dawn outside, he stepped out to breathe the fresh air.
This was Jimmy's first time in Alaska. The vacation cabin was located at Denali National Park and Preserve, adjacent to mountain peaks, with large glaciers visible at a distance, contrasting the surrounding landscape.
Driving in yesterday, he hadn't noticed the environment due to the late hour, missing the scenic views along the way.
Kevin's cabin wasn't along the park's tourist routes; it was one Kevin borrowed, so after Jimmy entered the park, he hadn't seen anyone else. Any presence around the cabin would be unusual, alerting Kevin to intruders.
Indeed, those with wealth and power lack no resources. Normal tourists to Denali follow fixed routes, using park shuttles or hiking trails near roads. The secluded area Kevin secured would rarely have other visitors.
The park's roadsides were meadows, dotted with colorful flowers. Looking out, some animals could be seen, though too far from the cabin to identify.
Regardless of the creatures, Jimmy felt prepared. He had arrived under his FBI identity, armed with three handguns. Should wildlife pose a threat, he'd respond. The ammunition on him could ensure his and Nia's family's safety.
Unfamiliar with the surroundings, Jimmy didn't wander far, opting for a short stroll. By the time he returned, the sky was brightening.
Jimmy headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for everyone. Despite not being married yet, he aimed to please his in-laws. Cooking breakfast required little effort and filled the idle time.
As Jimmy started frying eggs, the aroma spread throughout the cabin, prompting everyone to wake up and come out. "Morning, everyone."
Nia came over, kissed Jimmy, and said, "Darling, you're so good."
"Go freshen up first," Jimmy replied without turning, focusing on the skillet. Frying eggs was tricky, easily overdone. Nia preferred sunny-side up with runny yolks, while Jimmy liked them over-easy and fully cooked. Including Kevin and his wife, numerous eggs needed frying that morning.
Before long, Jimmy had the fried eggs, bacon, vegetables, and slices of bread ready on the table. "Who needs cereal?"
Jimmy's metabolism demanded more intake, so alongside the breakfast sandwich and bacon, he had a bowl of cereal and milk. The others needed only a simple breakfast with milk.
