North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 970 970: Going Through the Motions
Bill and Jack from DHS returned to New York. The headquarters of Deep Red Rose had been thoroughly investigated, and they collected a wide array of weapons from the site, including highly dangerous rocket launchers and grenades, along with plenty of automatic weapons. As for handguns, there were even more.
During the investigation of the villa, they successfully found the fingerprints of several individuals without identities in New York. In terms of this aspect, their connections could essentially be confirmed. Coupled with intelligence provided by the DHS headquarters, the case could now be closed.
Bill called Jimmy and arranged to meet him at the Anti-Terrorism Bureau.
In the meeting room at the Anti-Terrorism Bureau, everything was almost tidied up. Various materials and evidence had been consolidated into boxes, ready for removal.
Bill handed Jimmy a folder, "The report is all here. Take a look first."
Jimmy opened the folder, skimmed through the part he was familiar with - the investigation he had participated in, what mattered was the raid on the estate.
Bill was considerate of Jimmy. He clearly documented how many people Jimmy had killed during the estate raid. Additionally, the clues to the two secret rooms and passages were initially discovered by him, not taking away Jimmy's credit.
This case was credited mostly to DHS, but Jimmy managed to earn his share of the credit. The case report would be shared with the FBI. Jimmy's temporary resignation from the Public Affairs Office to assist DHS left nothing for questioning, at least ensuring that the OPR wouldn't trouble him.
Of course, the number of people Jimmy killed was a bit concerning; for a regular person, it'd be troublesome. But Jimmy's accomplishments in combat were there for all to see; it's unlikely anyone would question him.
Jimmy: "Thank you, Bill."
Bill: "You're welcome, you deserve it. Please sign here."
Jimmy took a pen from his pocket, signed the report, closed the folder, and handed it to Bill, "Now that the case is closed, are you heading back?"
Bill: "Yes, they will head back first, but I need to stay here a while."
Jimmy: "Is there any issue?"
Bill smiled and said, "I probably have some things to take care of. I might become a permanent resident in New York."
Jimmy: "A new team?"
Bill smiled, patting Jimmy's shoulder, "Alright, you can go now. The report will be faxed to your office within these two days."
Jimmy also smiled, it seemed Bill had really benefitted this time, advancing from a Senior Agent to a division management role - quite a leap. "OK, good luck, goodbye, Bill."
-----------------
Three calm days passed, and Jimmy finally received the copy of the file Bill sent to the FBI.
Naturally, given the case involved a terrorist attack, the file was classified as secret, which meant it was restricted to authorized personnel for access, duplication, and distribution. Jimmy, being a direct investigator in the case, was certainly within the scope of access. Due to collaboration among federal departments, certain individuals at the FBI could view it, including Mrs. Mason.
Jimmy reviewed the file, focusing on the copy of the report he signed, confirmed it was correct before taking the file to Mrs. Mason's office.
Jimmy: "Mrs. Mason, this is the report on the recent terrorist attack case."
Mrs. Mason tapped her desk, not looking up while reviewing her files. Jimmy placed it on the desk and turned to leave.
A while later, Mrs. Mason dialed Jimmy's extension to summon him. She held Jimmy's report and said, "Jimmy, you need to undergo a psychological evaluation."
Jimmy raised an eyebrow, "Is that necessary? I'm perfectly normal."
Mrs. Mason: "No, you don't understand, it's administrative protocol, and your psychological evaluation report needs to be archived with this report."
Jimmy: "Alright, whom should I see?"
Mrs. Mason tapped on her keyboard and clicked her mouse, "Oh, any of the designated experts in our department can do it. Let me see, there she is, Mary Walter. I need to see your report by the end of the day tomorrow."
Jimmy: "OK, I'll make the appointment now."
Leaving Mrs. Mason's office, Jimmy took out his phone to find a number. Dr. Mary Walter—he hadn't contacted her in a long time because as his field department workload decreased, he no longer needed psychological evaluations, and OPR didn't insist either.
Though it had been a while, Mary remembered Jimmy, the ruthless and stern FBI agent, and they had a fairly good relationship before. Since Jimmy reached out, she naturally didn't refuse and directly scheduled him to visit her studio.
At Mary's studio, Jimmy registered his name at reception and went straight into Mary's office, "Hi, Mary, you're as beautiful as ever."
Mary rose to give Jimmy a quick hug, "Being engaged does change you, you're so charming now. Take a seat."
Jimmy smiled, "Sorry, at the engagement, because of the sensitive identities of the attendees."
Mary said while arranging her teacups, "I understand, given your roles, it's understandable."
Jimmy: "Thanks, but remember to come for my wedding, there'll be more guests then. Oh, also bring Jenna."
Mary: "Haha, alright, make sure to send me an invitation. What brings you here this time?"
Jimmy shrugged, "Being watched, now I need to complete the psychological evaluation process."
Mary: "Didn't you go to the Public Affairs Office?"
Jimmy: "Hm? How do you know?"
Mary didn't look at Jimmy; she focused on steeping the tea, "Of course, how could someone like you move departments and not get noticed?"
