CHAPTER 441: CHAPTER 271 NEW JOB_2

Dean swore an oath. When he returned to this city, Saul, those Japanese, and the treacherous Monet would all pay an unbearable price for what they had done that day!

「On the other side.」

Saul, the mayor of Los Angeles, who had just finished a meeting, learned from his secretary that something had gone wrong with Dean’s situation.

He was stunned, thinking he had misheard. "DHS? Isn’t that agency less than two years old?"

Clearly, as a member of a prominent family, Saul had some understanding of this organization that might one day surpass the FBI.

The Chinese-American secretary, his face showing surprise, nodded. "Sir, after receiving Director Monet’s report, I checked with our FBI contacts. It turns out that several months ago, Dean thwarted a terrorist attack on a flight to Los Angeles. I suspect that’s when he connected with DHS!"

Saul was silent for a moment, then chuckled. "What a lucky kid."

The secretary glanced at Saul’s expression. Seeing he didn’t appear very angry, he continued, "DHS’s conscription interrupted the Internal Affairs investigation of Captain Dean. Before he returns to the Los Angeles police force, we cannot continue to target him. We don’t even have an excuse to directly revoke his captaincy. If those Japanese..."

Saul waved his hand, cutting his secretary off. "So what? Dean is just a catalyst for this collaboration. Those Japanese are smart; they won’t let such a trivial matter upset me. Frankly, I’m more concerned about what to have for dinner."

He was joking, of course.

This is the 21st century, not some uncivilized era.

An outstanding detective is nothing in the face of power and money!

In Saul’s eyes, Dean, that capable little fellow, was no more a threat to him than a homeless man.

A homeless person has no attachments and might one day, no longer wanting to live, suddenly shoot at him during a speech. Dean, however, was a man with a family. Fearing he might involve his loved ones, he wouldn’t even dare to harbor resentment!

He probably wouldn’t even dare set foot in Los Angeles for the rest of his life. He’d just hide in some gutter, begging me to spare him!

This is the allure of power!

"Here’s the plan: if that Dean decides to leave Los Angeles, we don’t need to pay him any mind. But if he thinks he can use DHS as a cover to stay in Los Angeles and investigate who’s after him, then have those Japanese arrange an ’accident’ for him."

After saying this, Saul loosened his collar and strode toward his office.

Ever since hiring that new Japanese-American executive secretary, Saul had developed a keen interest in exploring physical techniques. He also came to understand why so many white male employees ended up marrying Japanese women.

It couldn’t be helped. Those women were far more captivating than American girls, who only knew how to cry out to God.

「As the departure neared.」

Dean called his family, his team members (including Lawrence, who arrived late, and Patrolman Hawk), and others for a farewell meal to discuss some matters. While he was away, Dean hoped Lawrence and the others would look after his family a little.

His mother, Sheila, and the others didn’t know Dean had offended someone; they thought his departure was for a promotion, so they felt a mixture of sadness and happiness.

Especially his little brother, Thompson. The soon-to-be sixteen-year-old rascal, upon learning Dean would be traveling across different states for a while, immediately set his sights on Dean’s Hummer, claiming he would take good care of it during Dean’s absence.

Dean, though momentarily touched, promptly gave him a swift kick.

A joke! This modified Hummer would be his cherished companion in the days to come. How could he let Thompson, that rascal who only wanted to borrow the car to show off, get his hands on it so easily!

Finally, surrounded by colleagues and family, Dean left the city he had lived in for over a year, rock music blaring from his car’s speakers.

Dean had thought he might feel a bit nostalgic, but as the car left downtown Los Angeles, a thrilling sense of liberation washed over him—the sky was high for birds to soar, the sea vast for fish to leap. This feeling became the main theme in his heart.

A wolf travels a thousand miles for meat; a dog travels a hundred miles only for scraps!

With his powerful abilities as his trump card, Dean believed that no matter what the future held, he would thrive.

「Two days later.」

At the FBI Special Training Facility, DHS Director Amon, accompanied by a young man with a bruised face, appeared before Dean.

"Long time no see, Dean!" Amon exclaimed, giving Dean a warm hug upon meeting.

Dean responded gratefully, "Thank you, Amon. Otherwise, I really would have been in trouble this time."

"Haha, this is actually quite normal in the United States. During my career progression, many capable colleagues went from being outstanding agents to prisoners or scapegoats overnight. That’s the fundamental reason I’ve always striven to climb the ranks."

Amon blinked. "You never know what tomorrow may bring; all you can do is work hard."

"Very inspiring," Dean shrugged, "but I don’t understand why you’ve brought this fellow to see me."

As he spoke, Dean greeted the person Amon had brought: "Cheston En, it seems you’ve recovered from what happened last time."
