CHAPTER 150: THE OFFER

That afternoon, Yohan stood outside his house as he spoke on the phone with Helen.

"So what do you say?" he asked.

He explained everything about the Jade Island investment to her, describing it as a sure opportunity to gain a lot of money; all she had to do was invest a few million.

"So because I asked why you haven’t asked me for money, you decided to ask for all my money?" Her voice was light and playful.

"It’s not like that," he chuckled. "I really need the money, and I assure you that you’ll get way more than whatever you choose to invest. Trust me."

"I do," she said without any hesitation. "But you’re asking for a lot of money, and I’m a bit worried... maybe when you come over this night you can find a way to convince me." She bit her lips as she spoke.

Yohan smirked; he didn’t need any more clues to what she was saying.

"Don’t worry, I’ll work really hard," he said flirtatiously.

"Okay, see you then," her voice raised slightly before she ended the call.

He got in his car and headed to his next target.

Meeting with Gunjoo

When he arrived at Gunjoo’s office, he was ushered in like a VIP. The thugs around were so excited to see him like he was some money-bringing angel.

’They probably receive a huge bonus whenever I come around,’ he thought.

His business with Gunjoo always left the loan shark with a fat pocket, so he was hoping he could leverage that.

"Hey, Yohan, my guy. How have you been?" Gunjoo’s face lit up the moment Yohan entered his office.

’Why does it feel like he’s getting even more friendly with me...’ he wanted to remind the loan shark that they weren’t friends, but then he reasoned that maybe today they actually were. Or at least he needed Gunjoo to think that.

"How have my men been? I put some of my best on that job."

"They’ve been great. I hardly even noticed them around," Yohan admitted as he took a seat.

He had only met with the guys once, when they first started working and introduced themselves; after that, their car just remains parked at one side of the street.

"So that means there hasn’t been any incidents like before?"

"Yes, I just hope they’re really as efficient as you say they are."

"Of course, I’m telling you they’re the best. So what business brings you here today?" Gunjoo leaned in.

"Does it always have to be business? Can’t I just drop by?"

Gunjoo let out a small laugh. "We both know that is not true, so let’s just get right into it."

Yohan sighed, "Okay."

He pulled out a folded large paper from the bag he carried and spread it open on the table.

"What is this?" Gunjoo wondered.

"This is an opportunity for you to earn a lot of money," he replied.

At the mention of money, Gunjoo was already interested. He leaned in and began analyzing the contents of the paper.

"Jade Island? I’ve never heard of something like that before."

"That’s because it’s only available to a very selected group of people. I only managed to get my hands on it. It is a city project that would begin next month, and the Mayor is looking for investors."

"So that is why you are here," Gunjoo sounded intrigued as he continued to study the paper.

"For a loan?" He finally shifted his gaze back to Yohan.

"Not quite," Yohan shrugged. "This project would take at least a year to complete. With your 50% interest every month, I’ll probably go bankrupt trying to pay you back."

"Like I said before, I’m here to give you an opportunity. In a year’s time when this project is complete, it would become bigger than anyone can ever imagine. With just a few million dollars, you stand the chance to earn massively."

"How much exactly are we talking about?" Gunjoo inquired with seriousness.

"It depends on how much you’re willing to risk, but this place can increase your $3 million by at least 4 times. I doubt that you could make that much money with your loan business in just a year."

Gunjoo’s eyebrows furrowed, pressing together as he considered the offer. Until he sighed and leaned back.

"Listen, kid, if everything you just said is true, it is indeed a tempting offer, but there is still something that concerns me."

"How are you sure this place is going to be profitable? What if it ends up being like one of those abandoned projects or the houses end up being too expensive and no one will want to buy? It all sounds like a risky investment."

"Every investment comes with risk, even if you can see the future," Yohan replied calmly "But I understand your concern. All I can say is take my word for it."

"Plus, don’t pretend like you won’t hold me accountable if it doesn’t work out. I know what it means to do business with a man like you—I’m literally putting my life on the line here."

Gunjoo stared at him, scanning him carefully. The fact that he knew this and still remained calm as he presented the offer made him even more curious about the boy.

He was confident in the idea to the extent that he was even willing to bet his life on it. That made him feel assured about the offer.

"Okay, Wonder Kid, I’ll make a few calls and get back to you."

"Make a few calls? Aren’t you the boss? You can easily just wire the money."

Gunjoo let out a small laugh, finding Yohan’s ignorance funny.

"I’m more like a manager; I can’t authorize large transactions like that. I’ll have to discuss with the big boss before I make any move..."

"...but you shouldn’t worry, I’ll put in a good word," he added.

"Okay," Yohan sighed and stood up to his feet. "Just call me when you are ready."

Then he left.
