[Well, if it is recruitment we are talking about]

Silence opened with an introduction, then continued to speak its mind.

[Then I would have to say a magic spell that allows you to see the specialties of other people. When starting a cult, it's best to recruit only the most exceptional members at first]

"So, basically a spell that would allow me to see potential or talents, hmm… That could work, I guess. Alright, make me a spell that fits what I need."

[Sure, no problem]

[You have created a new spell. The spell Occultist Eye has been learned. A total of 100 units of Negative Energy has been consumed for its creation. You now have 13,573 units of Negative Energy remaining]

Right after.

Nier closed his eyes, slowly, and the moment he did, he reopened them while using +1 units of Negative Energy per second to keep the spell activated.

And what was once a pair of red irises transformed into twin pools of pure blackness, devoid of pupils.

The instant those eyes beheld the world, Nier instinctively shut them again as his brains was hit with incomprehensible visual information.

Colors appeared alien, and the world itself seemed distorted. His visual perception had been altered by a dramatic increase in retinal cone cells...562 distinct types to be precise, far surpassing the human norm of three.

This augmentation enabled him to perceive an unprecedented spectrum of colors, including wavelengths invisible to ordinary eyes, such as ultraviolet and infrared.

He could also detect electromagnetic waves and faint traces of radiation, manifesting as shimmering patterns interwoven with the environment.

He could see through walls, discerning the detailed veins and roots of his vased plants as if they were illuminated.

From his vantage point, he vision range also increase, well beyond that of an eagle to boot.

As he looks through the wall, the water slightly splashing as move in the tub, and his gaze pierced beyond his gate, extending in a straight line into the distance.

Surpassing more than 740 meters.

And from where he was station, he could see some people active on the morning street.

He observe the beating of each of their hearts, the blood coursing through their veins, and the outlines of their organs, and their own full body.

And Amidst all this, he noticed a peculiar glowing light at the center of each person's chest and back aligning with each other like a pearl floating epicenter of a cup, and he instinctively recognized these as representations of their souls.

Each soul appeared as an orb, distinguished by at least two colors. The most common was a vibrant blue, while a rarer red hue marked specific others.

Blue souls seem to dominated the average person, but red souls appeared in individuals who seemed untrustworthy. For instance, Nier spotted a community delinquent radiating a crimson soul.

He quickly hypothesized that a red soul might indicate a person of questionable character, though he knew further observation would be needed to confirm this correlation.

As the sheer amount of things he was seeing altogther and at once, was too much to process without going mad.

Even now, as he watched on at the world, and blood began to ooze from his eyes, ears, and nose.

When he focused on a person, their information appeared above their head.

Their name, age, talents, skill set, education, income… basically a fully detailed log of everything they were as an individual.

But Nier couldn't take it anymore.

The flood of information was overwhelming him too quickly, so he shut his eyes, deactivating the Occultist Eye's and once more the world return back to normal. Google seaʀᴄh novel-fire.ɴet

"Ahhh.... That's going to take a lot of time to get used to."

"Still I think it's about time, I start my day, first thing first. I should quick my job, still not going lie, this isn't going to be easy. Especially since I got this job through my friend Kalyand. Hopefully he doesn't take this too seriously."

With that said, Nier stepped out of the bath, grabbing a towel to dry himself after washing away the dirt from his body.

In the next moment, he called out to Lisa, giving her specific instructions.

"Lisa, please do me a favor and call Kalyand for me, would you?"

(As you wish, Master. Now calling Kalyand)

She said as her voice echoed through the house stereo system.

Beep... Beep!!

Ringing!!...

The line clicked, and Kalyand’s voice crackled through, tight and a little breathless.

"Yo, Nier, what's good?"

Nier, still damp from the bath, slung the towel over his shoulder and leaned against the bathroom counter as be replied with his arm folded.

"Hey, man, just needed to talk. You got a sec?"

"Uh, yeah, for sure. What's up bro?"

He greeted him with a question.

But Nier did not want to waste time, so he got straight to the point.

"Look man, I will just be honest with you...I am thinking about quitting my job."

Kalyand’s breath hitched, as he shouted in shock.

"WHAT?!"

He blurted, his voice cracking with suprise, as if Nier's words had blindsided him.

"Quit? You serious?"

"Yeah, man."

Nier said, rubbing the back of his neck.

Trying to find the right words.

In the end, before Nier could finish his thought, Kalyand cut him off, his voice sharp and insistent over the line.

"Look, bro, just stay right where you are. I'm coming to you."

Kalyand said loudly, his tone edged with a mix of urgency and distraction.

Nier chuckled, caught off guard.

"Ha… you sure? I mean, you're not gonna change my mind on th...

Beeeep!!

The call ended abruptly, leaving Nier staring at the now-silent stereo system.

"And he hung up."

Nier muttered to himself with a sigh.

He knew how persistent Kayland could be.

"Sorry, buddy, but I've already made up my mind."

He said shaking his head, right after he stepped out of the bathroom, his bare feet padding across the cool tile floor.

He headed to his bedroom closet, sifting through hangers to pick out something comfortable yet fitting for the conversation ahead.

He settled on a sleeveless black T-shirt that hugged his frame and a pair of black-and-white joggers with a subtle geometric pattern.

As he pulled them on, after his underwears.

Still thinking back on Kayland, Nier had a small smile on his face as he said while taking a half burnt cigar, and lit it.

The smoke curling from the burn tips as he began recall a past, older than decade, nearing two.

Kalyand, from what he remembers hadn't visited his place much since their high school days, when they had spend hours gaming or sneaking out to late-night skate parks

Those where simple time, but the memories themselves felt distant now, overshadowed by the weight of Nier's decision to quit his job, and the unsettling clarity of his new reality.

"...I owe that bastard a lot, might as well give him a proper but also false explanation as to why I am quitting."
