CHAPTER 43: _HE’LL COME AGAIN TONIGHT

Kyren’s POV

*****

"Your audacity is mind-boggling to say the least." He spoke coldly, raising his right hand with a plain expression.

As he did, the three Arcadian emissaries who had come to his throne room to discuss "peace" levitated into the air, a red wispy energy coiling around them like snakes.

Kyren’s eyes glinted with a light of the same colour as he slowly got off his throne, keeping his hand suspended. He walked down the steps, each echoing like a death god about to give judgment.

One of the emissaries, a woman in her late thirties, sneered, her black robes floating around her. "No, you’re the one with audacity, Rogue king! Not only do you dare reject the peace the High Matron offers you, but you attack—"

"Shut up," Kyren said boredly, flicking his wrist.

That motion sent the woman flying back until she hit a black stone pillar, plopping to the marble floor like a rag doll.

The throne room was empty, save for Kyren and the witches.

The two emissaries who still floated in front of him quickly went on the offensive as well, spreading out their hands and casting spells.

"Too slow," Kyren muttered, clenching his right fist, controlling one of them and sending him flying upward until he smashed the ceiling.

He then let go, watching as the witch fell to the ground with a thud, blood trickling from his temple and pooling around him.

But he was still alive.

"I won’t kill you three," Kyren said casually, his instincts flaring as the last witch managed to free herself from his telekinetic hold. "I’ll send you back to your High Matron as a warning..."

Her eyes glowed with a searing blue light as she yelled out, stretching her hands forward.

Suddenly, hundreds of blue energy bolts manifested in front of her and hurtled toward Kyren who watched them with a smirk.

"Interesting." He muttered before disappearing into a cloud of red smoke, avoiding the bolts which hit his throne and the wall behind it instead.

He appeared behind the female witch, raising his right hand and aiming to strike her down.

But she was surprisingly more agile and alert than her fallen comrades, ducking forward and then twisting just in time to block his strike with a force shield.

But the force of his strike was still enough to push her backwards several feet, her jaw clenching as she glared at him.

"I’m impressed. It’s been a while since I met a witch capable of... Making me actually put in effort in a fight." He sniggered, clapping twice.

But when he clapped the third time, the air in the throne room stilled. A suffocating force descended in the throne room, causing the witch to gasp as the air left her lungs.

She struggled to keep pushing, sending a blast of blue magic energy at Kyren. But he snuffed the blast easily by catching it in his right hand and then transmuting it into a blood-red wispy energy.

Despite the stillness of the throne room, his long white hair whipped around him like snakes, the runes on his black armour lighting up faintly.

He watched with a smirk as the witch finally succumbed to the invisible pressure, falling to her knees first before finally collapsing.

Kyren stared at her stoically, snapping his fingers. A portal with fierce red edges formed in front of her and then she levitated into the air before flying through it.

Her two comrades also followed the same fate, the portal closing behind them once all three had passed through.

It led straight to one of the border cities of Arcadia.

"Witches. Always so theatrical." Kyren rolled his eyes, heading back to his throne.

Just when he sat down, the throne room doors barged open and then his commander, Farrell, walked in with a slightly tense expression on his face.

Farrell wore a sleek black armour as well, his shoulder-length ashen hair flowing gallantly behind him.

Kyren clasped his hands in front of his face, raising an eyebrow as his loyal commander bowed in front of the steps of the dais.

"My lord. How did the meeting with the witches go?" He asked, sounding like he knew the answer to that already.

But Kyren responded with a scoff. "Just as expected. Those bastards brought up a ’peace agreement’ directly from their accursed High matron. They want the dark lands to be under Arcadian rule but we can still ’stay’ in the lands."

Farrel raised his head with a scowl. "They’re really getting bolder, huh?"

Kyren snapped his neck, sighing as he rested his arms on the armrests of his throne. "I don’t care. If they think I, Kyren Nochthane, will yield to their threats veiled as ’peace’ then they’ve got another thing coming."

After a little silence, Farrell got on his feet and cleared his throat. "I come bearing news from the Lunarian Empire."

The second Kyren heard that, his eyes lit up with interest as he leaned forward. "Well, go on. What’s with the suspense?"

Ever since he found out his mate resided in the Lunarian Empire just last night, he’s been watching the territory with interest.

He could still feel his mate’s emotions. His desires. And at one point today, he could’ve sworn he caught a whiff of his scent through the mate bond.

It was... Irresistible. Sweet.

"The Alpha king has scheduled that you visit the capital to discuss the conflict with Arcadia in twenty-one days," Farrel announced with a loud voice.

Oh... Twenty-one days.

The day of the next full moon.

"Twenty-one days..." Kyren muttered, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "That wouldn’t do at all..."

Farrel furrowed his eyebrows. "Oh. I could communicate with the Lunarian court and tell them you—"

"It’s a perfect time to see the Lunarian ruler, Farrell. I’m not in a rush with that." Kyren chimed with a distant tone. "But him... I can’t wait that long for him..."

Farrell blinked at him with confusion but Kyren completely ignored his existence as he went into deep thought.

Last night, his mate had managed to somehow come to the dark lands by using a projection of his consciousness through their mate bond.

The pretty little thing...

"I guess I’ll just have to wait again tonight," Kyren said to himself, smirking as his body burned with anticipation.

His mate would come again. Tonight.

And this time... Kyren would be ready.
