“What? Is the Sherman family moving to Kingtonelle? What about yourpany?”

“Come on, Mrs. Sherman’s family has a branch in Kingtonelle.”

“Ah, that makes sense.”

Some of thedies from smaller families couldn’t help but envy Margaret. While Hirica was certainly prosperous, it couldn’tpare to Kingtonelle. Theworks and economic development in Kingtonelle were far beyond what Hirica could offer.

“It’s all for the sake of my daughter. Moving to Kingtonelle will make it so much easier for her to attend university,” Margaret said with a smile. “I’m really proud of Cheryl.”

As Margaret was speaking, Cheryl rushed out, her hair messy and her dress all crumpled. She looked panicked. “Mom, something is wrong.”

Margaret saw Cheryl’s state and immediately knew something was wrong. However, she didn’t want to humiliate herself, so she quickly covered Cheryl’s mouth, forcing a smile. “Sorry, she’s not feeling well. I’ll take her home.”

Thosedies were all aware of what had happened, but they agreed not to tell Margaret to avoid bringing trouble upon themselves.

“Sure, see you.”

“What a poor girl.”

Many of them knew about the rtionship between the Sherman family and the Evans family, and they couldn’t help but gloat. Margaret used to act all high and mighty thanks to the Evans family, but now that they had fallen, she was less cocky.

Cheryl leaned into Margaret’s arms, ying along, and reluctantly apologized, “Sorry, I don’t feel well. I can’t talk right now. I’lle visit you next time.”

With such a major incident, it was clear the party couldn’t continue. Cheryl calmed down.

At that moment, thedies‘ cars arrived, and she and Margaret quickly made up an excuse to leave. They walked far enough until the cars were out of sight.

Margaret was freezing, and after walking quickly for a long while, her throat was sore. Irritated, she shook off Cheryl’s hand and squatted by the side of the road. “What happened? Why are you in such a rush?”

Cheryl looked around to make sure no one was nearby before squatting down and lowering her voice. “The Evans family is in trouble. I’m worried it might drag us down.”

Margaret copsed to the ground. “How could the Evans family be in trouble?” She looked at Cheryl in disbelief, anxious. “The people behind them are powerful, who could even rival the Shea family.”

Cheryl thought Margaret was referring to Ryan Evans and interrupted her coldly. “Ryan has already been arrested. The Evans family’s trouble is partly his fault.”

She grasped Margaret’s hand, her voice trembling. “Mom, do you think we’ll get dragged into this?”

Even though Cheryl didn’t say it directly, many people in the circle knew that she was treated like a family member by the Evans family and that the Sherman family was very close to them.

“Mom, what should we do?” Cheryl was really scared, still shaken by the events that had just happened. If she hadn’t reacted quickly, she might have been caught up in the arrest as well.

Margaret hadn’t fully processed the situation yet, muttering, “How could that be? The people behind the Evans family won’t

be arrested.”

Cheryl saw that Margaret was still out of it and grabbed her shoulders, shaking her urgently. “Mom, think carefully. Do we have any other ties with the Evans family? Any business dealings?”

She was thinking of issuing a statement tomorrow to say that they had no connection with the Evans family. Although the Sherman family’s reputation would be affected, at least they wouldn’t be arrested.

Margaret came to her senses and let out a bitterugh. “Cheryl, with our family’s standing, there’s no way we could have any business dealings with the Evans family.”

William had no interest in doing business and didn’t focus on the right path. If it hadn’t been for Margaret’s support from her family, the Sherman family would have copsed long ago.

Upon hearing these words, Cheryl felt a little more at ease and let out a small sigh of relief. Since there were no business dealings, the Sherman family wouldn’t be dragged down, no matter what happened.

Margaret couldn’t quite ept it, murmuring to herself, “How could the Evans family get arrested? All of our efforts were in

vain.”

William had sent the Evans family a lot of antiques and money, totaling over a million dors, just to please them. Cheryl even put in a lot of work to get that Revival Grass to give them. And now, the Evans family copsed.

For all this time, Margaret had been sucking up to the Evans family, hoping to help Cheryl get close to them.

“If it weren’t for the Evans family’s influence in Hirica, I wouldn’t have bothered trying to tter them.” Margaret’s voice was tinged with frustration, her tone rising unintentionally.

Cheryl looked around, frowning. “Mom, lower your voice. The Shea Manor is nearby. What if someone hears us?”

Thanks to Cheryl’s reminder, Margaret finally realized she had raised her voice too much and quickly covered her mouth.

Cheryl said calmly, “All the major families in Hirica are busy distancing themselves from the Evans family. We need to do the same, but once we break ties with them, we will be in even greater trouble.”

The Sherman family had a good reputation, but their business was nowhere near as sessful as the other families.

After thinking for a while, Margaret calmed down. “Don’t worry. Your dad’s forty–fifth birthday ising soon. We’ll throw a big celebration and invite some influential people. With the Sherman family’s reputation, I’m sure they won’t refuse.

“We’ll find a new backer then. It won’t take long before we’re back on top.”

Margaret was the perfect example of a wealthy youngdy raised in a prestigious family who relied on others, never learning to stand on her own.

Although Cheryl didn’t quite approve of Margaret’s methods, she had no other choice. Sometimes, she resented her, but as long as she returned to the Sherman family, she could find protection.

Margaret didn’t notice the look on Cheryl’s face and sighed deeply. “What a waste of a million dors. It was the entire year’s profit for the Sherman family.”

She thought, ‘It’s bad enough we didn’t get close to the Shea family, but now we almost ended up pulling ourselves into it,

too.

‘No. I need to reach out to the Granger family and let them know what’s going on. No matter what, the Granger family will make sure we’re safe.

Cheryl didn’t pick up on anything odd in Margaret’s eyes. She nudged her and said, “Mom, are you sure Ms. Lane knows nothing about medicine? Olivia definitely doesn’t seem like someone who doesn’t know her stuff.”

She felt that not only did Olivia know it, but she was also incredibly capable.
