“I knew it-” Despite Howard’s attempt to stay calm, his voice couldn’t help but tremble.

He would have to investigate thoroughly next.

Samuel, oblivious to Howard’s odd behavior, struck up a conversation with Olivia. “Dr. Summers, have you ever thought about developing your practice in Kingtonelle? With your incredible medical skills, you shouldn’t be buried in Hirica.”

He spoke sincerely. Nowadays, modern medicine was dominant, and fewer and fewer people believed in traditional

medicine.

But traditional medicine was their cultural heritage. It shouldn’t just fade away.

However, he believed that with talents like Olivia, traditional medicine wouldn’t decline.

Olivia slightly raised her eyebrows and smiled faintly. “I will go there eventually.”

She was bound to go to Kingtonelle; it was just a matter of time.

Samuel was delighted. “That’s great. When youe to Kingtonelle, make sure to look me up. I’ll show you around the city.”

Olivia agreed with a smile.

After chatting for a while, Olivia caught a whiff of that strange smell again.

It was very faint, and an ordinary person would definitely not notice it, but Olivia did.

“Samuel, have you been using any scented candles in the room?” Olivia asked nonchntly.

“No, I’ve never liked the smell of scented candles,” Samuel nced at David. “David, did you light any incense?”

David blinked. “No, you said you don’t like those smells.”

Then, he seemed to remember something. “Actually, Ms. Whitmore sent over a pot of grass a few days ago, saying it could help Mr. Summers recover?”

“Mia?” Charles said.

“Grass?” Olivia spoke at the same time.

“How could Mia be here?” Charles couldn’t control his emotions. “Didn’t she go abroad?”

David steeled himself. “Mr. Charles Summers, Ms. Whitmore didn’te herself; she sent it through someone else.”

“Charles, don’t lose yourposure.” Samuel’s expression turned a bit stern.

‘Damn it, Mia again. She is like a bad penny that keeps turning up,‘ Charles thought to himself.

“Where is that pot of grass? Can I take a look?” Olivia didn’t want to get involved in the affairs of the wealthy; her eyes slightly curved at the corners.

Samuel nodded.

With Samuel’s permission, David hurried off. “Alright, I’ll go get it.”

Soon, David returned.

The pot of grass looked quite ordinary, nothing special about it.

Olivia leaned in, waved her hand over it, and smelled a strong medicinal odor.

“Sarin, ricin-” Olivia named the herbs as she smelled them, her eyebrows unconsciously furrowing.

Charles noticed her odd behavior and asked urgently, “What does this mean? What are the things you mentioned?”

“It’s a slow–acting poison.” Olivia nodded slightly, her gaze calm and her tone even. “Ricin is extracted from castor beans. bIf /bba /bperson ingests even a small amount of ricin, it will cause respiratory failure, organ failure, and pose a serious threat to life.

“Sarin is even more toxic. It’s a deadly gas, hundreds of times more lethal than oxides. Even if you inhale a little, over time, it will damage the heart and lung functions-”

“You mean this pot of grass is poisonous?” Howard’s pupils dted slightly as he turned to David. “This pot of grass was sent by Mia?”

“How could that be possible?” Charles was dazed and incredulous. “Mia wouldn’t-”

“At this point, are you still defending her?” Samuel felt a chill. Charles was good in every way, except that he was blind when it came to rtionships.

Charles’s expression wasplicated as he suppressed his shock. “Grandpa, that’s not what I meant. I’ve long ended things with Mia, you know that.”

“Enough.” Samuel’s features turned colder. “If it weren’t for Dr. Summers, I would have been dead in a few more days.”

Howard then remembered that the pot of grass was poisonous.

He immediately pulled Olivia over, threw the pot of grass into the trash can, and asked her with concern, “Are you alright? That grass was poisonous, wasn’t it? Are you okay?”

Olivia was taken aback for a moment, gently disentangling her hand from Howard’s grasp. “It won’t do any harm just from smelling it for a while.”

Howard then realized hispse inposure and coughed to cover his embarrassment. “David, get rid of this thing. And in the future, don’t ept anything sent by Mia.

“She’s not even part of the Summers family; what’s she sending anything for?”

David was more than happy to find an excuse to escape the awkward atmosphere, and this one had justnded in hisp. “Sure thing, Mr. Howard Summersb, /bI’m on it.”

Charles’s eyes were filled with disappointment and aplex array of emotions.

The truth wasid bare before him.

“Well, in that caseb, /bI’ll head back first,” Olivia said, ncing out the window at the darkening sky as she got up to take her leave.

Samuel wanted to get up to see Olivia off, but she stopped him. “Mr. Summers, you should rest. There’s no need to see me

out.”

Howard chimed in, “Yeah, Grandpa, you should rest. I’ll see her off.”

“Hmm?” Olivia’s eyes cooled slightly, her smile momentarily freezing before returning to normal.

“Let’s go, Olivia,” Howard said, producing a set of car keys from somewhere with azy smile in his ride and show you some speed and passion.”

Olivia turned around with her medical bag and began to walk away.

“Hey, Olivia,” Howard quickly caught up. “Wait for me.”

In the end, the two of them still headed back.

Olivia’s reason was simple. “No street racing in the city.”

As night fell, outside Willow Lane, Olivia could distinctly feel a few people following her. Yet Howard seemedpletely oblivious, chattering away nonstop.

He asked, “Olivia, where do you go to school? Olivia, what’s your favorite color? Do you like Tiffany’s dresses? I’ll buy you

one.”

Olivia walked forward with her medical bag, expressionless and not uttering a single word to him.

At the corner of the alley, a young man stood tall and upright, his long legs elegantly crossed, leaning casually against the wall with his arms folded, watching her.

‘It’s Andrew. What’s he doing here?‘ Olivia thought to herself.

“Olivia, there’s some food over there. Do you want to-” Howard asked.

Olivia abruptly pushed Howard away, her eyes narrowing slightly. “I’m home. You can leave now.”

“But I-” Howard didn’t get to finish his sentence before Olivia walked away, heading straight for the man.

“Why are you here?” Olivia asked.

“To cure an illness,” Andrew replied, his gaze falling on Howard in the distance. “Is he your new suitor?”

“We’re not close,” Olivia said.

“Alright.” Andrew’s thick eyebrows lifted in a half–smile. “On the way back, didn’t you notice anything different?”

“I know. You go ahead and wait over there.” Olivia handed her medical bag to Andrew, flexing her fists. “Take good care of my bag. It’s expensive and I don’t want it lost.”

Andrew’s eyes lingered on Olivia, but he didn’t move.
