Natalie stumbled and fell into the snow. She howled, clutching her arm. Snow and twigs smeared her bface /bwith muddy slush, leaving her aplete mess.

“Next time, it’ll be your faceb,/b” Olivia threw out coldly, scooping Jenny into her arms and getting into the car.

When Natalie came to her senses, the car bwas /balready long gone. “Bitch! I’ll make you pay,” she screamed, copsed on the ground, paralyzed by pain.

Olivia saw Natalie’s crazed look in the rear–view mirror and didn’t even bother with her. She quickly checked Jenny over and started basic first aid. “Jenny, it’s okay. As long as I’m here, nothing’s going to happen to you,” she reassured her.

Outside the window, the snow kept falling, growing heavier by the minute.

Meanwhile, inside the gray car, Andrew sat in the back seat, his fingers drumming impatiently against the window. He radiated a cold, dangerous aura, filling the car with a suffocating tension.

Ethan shivered, goosebumps prickling all over. Honestly, the freezing snow outside felt warmer than the chill in here.

“Boss, w–we just got some news,” Ethan stammered, barely daring to speak. After all, he was the one who lost Jenny. The only reason Andrew hadn’t ripped him to shreds yet was pure mercy.

“Report,” Andrew ordered, his voice icy.

Ethan braced himself, avoiding Andrew’s stormy re. “We… we still can’t find Jenny anywhere around here…” he said quietly.

Andrew stayed silent, his eyes clouded with worry and tension.

Ethan could tell Andrew was about to explode. To Andrew, nothing mattered more than Jenny.

“What’s the point of having you guys if you can’t even keep an eye on Jenny?” Andrew snapped, yanking the car door open, about to go look for her himself.

“Boss, you can’t go out there! You’re not in any better shape than Jenny. If you catch a cold, what’s going to happen to the Shea family?” Ethan quickly stepped in to stop Andrew.

Right then, Ethan’s phone buzzed, and he couldn’t hide the excitement in his eyes. “We’ve got news about Jenny!

“After Jenny got out of the bathroom, she headed north and ran into Ms. Evans. Ms. Evans bullied her so badly that she had an episode, but then some girl came to the rescue and took Jenny away with her,” Ethan reported.

Andrew’s beyes /bnarrowed, his voice tense. “Which girl?”

“It’s that young doctor who saved Jenny yesterday. Jenny’s totally attached to her,” Ethan stressed the word “attached,” making it clear bjust /bhow much Jenny liked her.

Andrew’s frown rxed a bit. Knowing Jenny was safe eased his mind, even if just a little. “Who is she?” he asked.

“She’s the adopted daughter from the Sherman family, but they kicked her out. We still don’t know where she is…” Ethan swallowed nervously. “And Jenny got rid of her tracker, so we’ve lost her signal.”

Thinking of that solitary figure, Andrew felt some of the tension in his bface /bbease/b. Knowing Jenny was with her actually let him breathe a little easier. Somehow, he just had this gut feeling–she would never hurt Jenny.

The Shea family reigned supreme in Kingtonelle, and Andrew had seen countless people fawn over Jenny for her wealth and status. All the people bwere /bonly to be coldly ignored.

But this girl bwas /bdifferent. Jenny didn’t just tolerate her; she genuinely liked her. That piqued Andrew’s curiosity even more. Frankly, the whole thing struck him as odd.

Andrew barked out his orders. “Track down where that girl is staying. I want Jenny in front of me by tomorrow night.” He shot Ethan a cold re. “If you bscrew /bup again, kiss your year–end bonus goodbye.”

“Yes, Boss!” Ethan jumped into action. The Shea Group’s year–end bonus wasn’t just some random holiday cash. It was calcted by the day, and all those days stacked up to nearly half a year’s pay. There was no way he could lose that bonus.

Olivia didn’t head back to the old neighborhood. Instead, she made her way to Willow Lane.

The old neighborhood was packed with wealthy and influential people, and Jenny was someone important. If anyone recognized her, it’d be a real mess. Besides, there weren’t many medicines avable there anyway. Willow Lane was much quieter, with hardly anyone around.

Number 88 Willow Lane was Grace’s ce. Olivia, with Jenny in her arms, wound her way through the twists and turns until they reached a small house, the words “Mercy Clinic” scribbled crookedly across the door. With nothing else marked, it was an obscure spot.

Olivia walked in with long, confident strides, and the moment she stepped into the yard, a kid in an elementary school hoodie bolted straight toward her.

“Hold it right there,” Olivia said, her tone cool and matter–of–fact as she stepped back a little. “Sean, where’s Grandma?”

Sean was a kid Olivia picked up off the street. He hardly ever talked, always seemed half–asleep, and loved to nap. Grace felt sorry for him and ended up raising him like her own grandson.

But for someone with such a big appetite, Sean never seemed to grow. At ten years old, he was barely as tall as a five–year- old. The only thing that really stood out about him was his eyes: bright, and an unusually rare shade of blue.

“Grandma… sleepy… nap…” Sean mumbled, pointing inside, rubbing his bleary eyes and letting out a huge yawn. Then he caught sight of Jenny in Olivia’s arms, and his eyes sparkled. “Eat?” he asked, clearly mistaking Jenny for food.

Olivia shook her head, her tone firm. “Sean, she’s like a little sister to me. She’s my patient, not for eating.”

Sean gave a vague nod, as if he only half understood.

Olivia carefully carried Jenny inside. The inside was a whole different world from the shabby look outside. It bwas /bsurprisingly ssy and elegant, all done up in simple shades of ck, white, and gray.

Olivia gently ced Jenny on the bed and called out to the system, “Scan the patient’s condition.”

Right awayb, /ba robotic voice chimed in, “Master, here’s the report: the patient has arrhythmia, is unconscious, and her breathing is abnormal. Rmend immediate buse /bof a beta–blocker.”

“Sean, fetch the medicine,” Olivia called out, opening a wooden box and picking out some herbs to grind up.

Sean scratched his head, and then hurried over to rummage through the cabs.

After Jenny took the medicine, she looked a lot better, but her cold little hand clung tightly to Olivia’s, refusing to let go.

Sean leaned in next to Olivia, curiously checking out the tiny Jenny. Shey there so quietly, her longshes fluttering, baby cheeks making her look extra adorable. Her bface /bbwas /bpale from being sick, and her little mouth moved as if she were trying to bsay /bsomething.

To Sean, this bwas /ball a whole new experience. He couldn’t resist reaching out and gave her chubby cheek a gentle poke.

Even in her unconscious state, Jenny seemed to feel it. She frowned a little and murmured, “Olivia…” in a soft voice.

Sean thought her cheek was so bouncy and cute, he just couldn’t resist poking it again.

Olivia immediately swatted his restless hand away. “Hands off,” she said.

Scolded, Sean stood obediently behind Olivia, popping his head out to sneak a look at Jenny.

After a while, ba /bcough sounded from inside. “Is that you, Olivia?” It was Grace, the former director of Sunrise Orphanage. She shuffled out, her eyes full of warmth. “Why’d youe by today?”

Olivia smiled softly, “I haven’t seen you in ages. I missed you.”

“Do you really have to lie to me?” Grace sighed, looking at Olivia with a sad, loving gaze. “I know all about what the Shermans did. It’s my fault. I never should’ve agreed to let them take you in. You’ve suffered so much because of me.”
