CHAPTER 54: BANK (3)

Just then Smith spoke up. "I have a good strategy for that director," he said his eyes bright with intelligence.

"Usually we can do marketing of any business through online advertising. And there are many portals where we can get the news published. But the result of this is not always in our hands. And in fact its result is not so great either. It’s a passive approach."

Logan who was sitting on the sofa was listening to their conversation. But he picked up a magazine from the glass coffee table in front of him.

He thought that he should just ignore all of them. He did not understand what they were talking about anyway. He was just here to collect his monthly paycheck.

Just then Adam and Andrew were sitting and paying close attention to Smith. Smith spoke again. "Why don’t we use the strategy that the Empire’s businesses use?" he asked. The name of the Empire hung in the air a powerful and intimidating word.

Andrew was a little surprised and he looked at Smith with a new respect. "You mean we should send people on the ground?" he asked. "A grassroots marketing campaign?"

Adam also used his power. "Okay then," he said his voice firm.

"I also have some suggestions for that. If you are going to use this strategy of sending people on the ground. And sending them everywhere so that a chain is created and everyone talks about this bank then I have an extra tip for you. A tip which I think you people should listen to." Just then Andrew and Smith’s attention went towards Adam.

Adam spoke his voice cutting through the silence of the office. "Why don’t we provide some extra money to all the salesmen?" he asked. "So that everyone listens to them."

Smith was surprised. "Director what do you mean?" he asked his brow furrowed in confusion.

"I mean we should give some money to all the salesmen," Adam said his voice now a low whisper.

"And tell them that whoever they have to talk to they have to give them a thousand dollars. Just to listen to their pitch. This will increase both the output and the performance of our salesmen in talking to other people. Because no one wants to turn down free money."

As soon as Adam finished his words and was about to start on the second part of his plan Smith and Andrew were already very surprised. Adam was talking about spending a huge amount of money.

Although they knew that this strategy was very effective.

But they wondered if they would even have that much money left. The amount of money that Adam was talking about spending was astronomical.

But what they had just heard from Adam was nothing compared to what he was about to say next.

"In the first week of our operation we will give only one percent interest on all the loans we distribute," Adam said.

"And you will have to spread this word everywhere. Let everyone know that this is only an offer for one week. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

After hearing Adam’s words Smith immediately stood up from his chair. His face was pale. Logan who had been pretending to read his magazine was also listening to all of their conversation.

Even though he did not understand most of the business jargon. But he knew basic math. He knew that this was a recipe for financial disaster.

He also knew that whatever this boy who was sitting on the main seat said was the final word. And Smith who was supposed to be the CEO of this company this bank was calling this boy director.

Logan finally understood that this boy must be some big shot.

The real owner.

The one he had thought was Andrew until now. And that Andrew just worked under him.

Logan’s respect and fear for Adam increased even more. And when he heard Adam’s whole insane plan he was even more surprised.

Smith who was still standing shouted "Our business will already be on a very thin margin because of the high interest rate on the deposits. But if we do this if we offer one percent loans for a whole week... you don’t know how much more loss we can suffer. We will be bankrupt in a week director.....Bankrupt."

Adam just raised his finger. He pointed it at Smith. His expression was calm and unwavering.

Andrew who had been quietly listening to Adam’s words was thinking something. He was waiting for Adam’s words to finish. So that he could put forward his own point.

"Our main target right now Smith is not to build a profitable business," Adam said his voice now a cold and ruthless command.

Smith is confused; he does not grasp what Adam is trying to convey.

"Our main target is to become the biggest and the number one bank in this country. And to do that we have to crush our competition. We have to bleed them dry. No matter how much loss we suffer. Once our business is established and we have a monopoly then we can do whatever we want. We can set our own rates. We can make our own rules. We can control everything."

Smith did not understand at first. He was still thinking like a conventional businessman. He was thinking about profit and loss.

When Smith says, "If we think about what the director is saying, then we have to monetize the business, this seems like a really crazy plan," he is aware of what this means. Monopoly in the context of business means that you have one rule to follow. It is necessary for everyone, including the government and the customers, to bow down to you during that time.

But when Adam said this when he explained his true objective he finally sat down. He put his hand on his mouth. He was in awe. And a little bit terrified. He now understood what Adam wanted to say.
