CHAPTER 57: BANK (6)

The manager Kim immediately picked up Adam’s phone.

His voice was breathless with excitement. "Adam I was just coming to see you," he said.

Adam was very surprised to hear this. He had thought that Kim was still in that other city Solo City handling the oil deal.

But when he came to know that he was on his way to his apartment Adam’s apartment he was immediately surprised. "Has all the work been done?" he asked his voice a little disbelieving.

The manager smiled a wide triumphant smile. Adam could hear it in his voice. "I don’t know how you did all this Adam," he said.

"The people you sent me to were incredibly efficient. It only took me a few hours. And I have done all the work. The land is ours. The permits are approved. Everything is done."

Adam immediately said urgently "Kim where are you right now?"

"I am about to get off at the train station which is a short distance from your house," he said.

"Okay you wait there I’ll come," Adam said.

"I have to introduce you to someone." The manager was very surprised to hear this. But he said happily "Okay I also have many things to tell you...Big things."

Adam cut the call. He looked at Maria who was still standing next to him on the train platform a little nervous.

She had heard his side of the conversation. She had heard the words ’oil deal’ and ’permits’. She had no idea what was going on.

Adam looked at Maria. His expression was serious. "Maria remember this," he said his voice low and firm.

"You have never met me. And I am not the owner of this bank. You have only ever met Andrew. And he is the one who is giving you all the orders. Do you understand?"

Maria was a little surprised to hear this strange command. But she saw the seriousness in Adam’s eyes. She just nodded her head agreeing with his words.

After a little while Adam reached his apartment with Maria and they entered he saw that Sophia was present in front of him. She stood at the leading end of the stairs, having a discussion with Mrs. Gold.

He just saw her standing there on the stairs talking to Mrs. Gold. Maria was walking quietly behind him.

Mr. and Mrs. Gold’s eyes went towards Adam and then to the beautiful young woman who was coming behind him. Mrs. Gold was surprised.

She leaned closer to Sophia and said in a very low voice "Who is this girl with Adam?"

Sophia’s ears immediately heard these words. Her head snapped around. Her neck turned immediately towards Adam. He was walking up the stairs coming from outside with Maria.

Sophia remained standing in her place frozen. For her in that moment everything had stopped.

The world went silent. All she could see was Adam and the beautiful woman walking behind him.

Just then Adam smiled seeing Sophia and Mr. and Mrs. Gold.

It was a casual friendly smile. He did not notice the look on Sophia’s face. He started to go upstairs toward his apartment. Adam had no idea what he had just done.

Sophia was feeling very strange. She felt a tightness in her chest. She felt that her breath was coming in a little less. She watched Adam go to his apartment with Maria.

Her eyes were on Adam this whole time. Even as he walked up the stairs. She could not think anything. She could not say anything. She turned and left from there.

She went straight to her friend Monty’s house. Her apartment was downstairs in this same building.

As soon as Adam entered his apartment with Maria, Maria was a little confused. She looked around at the small room.

She thought Do I have to work here? She did not understand anything. She was a business professional. She was used to working in a corporate office not in a tiny residential apartment.

Just then Adam went inside. He saw that the manager Kim was already in the kitchen. He was cooking something on the stove.

He looked completely at home. Seeing this Adam just smiled and sat down on the floor. He gestured towards Maria.

"Kim meet her," he said. "This is Maria. She is the new CEO of our oil company."

Maria was very surprised to hear this. She had come for an interview for a new position in a bank.

And now she was being told that she was the CEO of an oil company. She was in a state of shock.

The manager Kim who was now slowly getting used to Adam’s unexpected and dramatic actions just raised a hand in greeting and looked at Maria. "It’s nice to meet you Maria," he said with a tired but friendly smile.

"We have to do a lot of work together in the future." The manager was making food for himself.

He looked like he had not slept in days.

Adam was a little surprised. Kim looked exhausted but energized. "Didn’t you eat anything there in Solo City?" Adam asked.

After hearing this the manager Kim smiled a weary smile. "Actually I couldn’t sleep at all last night," he said as he expertly flipped the eggs in the pan.

"And last night itself I took the total amount and left for Solo City. Although I believed your words about the oil reserve I still expected some complications. But the people there were completely unaware of the true value of their land. I thought they would have some idea. That they would suspect something and ask for a very high price. But they asked for the same base price that you had written in the report. Which I then negotiated and reduced even further." He chuckled to himself.

"Although according to the details you gave me everything happened so quickly that I didn’t even have to look for people there. I didn’t have to navigate the bureaucracy. Because I had already found a perfect agent. The corrupt official that you had told me about. He was as efficient as you said." The manager was saying all this with a proud smile on his face.

He was clearly enjoying his new role. His new life. He was a man with a mission.
