Just as confusion rippled through the group about Ikki’s statement, Luffy’s signature grin spread across his face.
"That’s right... the Going Merry is our friend too! She can’t miss out on the adventures we’re about to have!"
"So... I’ve got to find the most exciting way to get the Merry to Sky Island!"
Usopp’s gaze instinctively shifted to the Going Merry, observing the recent repairs. His eyes welled up slightly; he knew deep down that their beloved ship’s sailing days were numbered.
After all, the Going Merry was just an ordinary small-to-medium-sized caravel, and the Grand Line’s harsh environment had already put her through immense strain. Replacing her seemed inevitable, perhaps sooner rather than later, but Usopp was reluctant to let her go.
Now, hearing Luffy’s words, Usopp felt a surge of hope. Before the Merry had to be retired, making her a legendary ship that reached an altitude of 10,000 meters sounded like the perfect send-off.
Meanwhile, Ikki’s thoughts ran deeper. His insistence on the Going Merry tackling the Knock Up Stream wasn’t merely for the thrill; it was for the ship’s spirit. Ikki didn’t want to hinder the emergence of the Ship Spirit, which was, in essence, the very soul of the Going Merry. The Straw Hats landing on Sky Island, with the Merry carrying a soul, felt like a crucial transformation for their ship.
Soon, the other Straw Hat members grasped Luffy’s meaning. In the end, no one objected to the daring plan of riding the Knock Up Stream to Sky Island.
The next priority was refurbishing the Going Merry. With the help of the Saruyama Alliance’s orangutans, the ship’s renovation wouldn’t be too difficult. Instead, the most pressing task became heading into the forest to catch South Birds.
Ikki knew that with Nico Robin and the highly observant Sabo around, catching the South Birds would be a breeze. He planned to use this time to escort Rouge back to Windmill Village. Ikki, after shrinking Rouge, clutched the Rabbit Charm. Thousands of Miles Flying appeared behind him, whisking him away from the Grand Line at incredible speed.
After soaring away, Ikki slapped his forehead. "Why didn’t I use the Rabbit Charm to take Ace and Blackbeard directly back to the Whitebeard Pirates? It would have saved so much time..." But Ace was already long gone, rendering the thought useless now.
And so, Ikki flew back to the East Blue with Rouge.
East Blue
Windmill Village
Today was a special day, as Monkey D. Garp had returned home to visit his relatives. Though he claimed to be visiting family, Garp’s true objective was usually to simply relax and fish.
"Makino, bring me some senbei and tea!" Garp called out casually from his seat at the Windmill Village Bar, addressing Makino with familiar ease.
"Mr. Garp, how are Ace and Luffy doing?" Makino inquired as she prepared the tea.
"Those two! They should be doing pretty well! Luffy became the Fleet Admiral of his private Marine, and as for Ace... he became Whitebeard’s son!" At this, Garp burst into laughter.
"Hahahaha.... Ace is Whitebeard’s son. Doesn’t that make him a generation younger than me? That’s just hilarious!"
"Sooner or later, I’ll stand right in front of Whitebeard and make him call me ’Uncle’!" Just imagining that scene made Garp want to laugh even harder.
Other villagers in the bar, though a bit confused by Garp’s wild laughter, chuckled along with him. At that moment, the bar door swung open, and Ikki entered with Rouge.
Upon stepping inside, Ikki’s eyes immediately locked onto Garp. "Damn it! Mr. Garp!"
Garp, however, had fixed his gaze on Rouge. "Are you... Rouge?"
"Mr. Garp, long time no see!" Rouge smiled gently at him.
After a brief glance at Rouge, Garp’s attention snapped back to Ikki. Soon, a long-forgotten figure from the past began to merge with Ikki’s current appearance.
"Boy... are you that person’s child?" Garp mumbled, then shook his head. He looked at Rouge again, his eyes suddenly glinting with understanding. He had a suspicion, but he wasn’t entirely sure.
If you’re not sure, then make sure! With that thought, Garp charged at Ikki without a word, his Haki-infused fists striking mercilessly.
Ikki knew the terrifying power of Garp’s punches and dared not take them head-on. He waved his hand, and the God-Controlling Robe behind him materialized, blocking the incoming attack. The robe Ikki currently wore still bore the name of the people, but its inner lining had transformed into a Dodge Cloak.
Garp’s punch connected with the God-Controlling Robe, and it instantly felt... off. This unusual sensation confirmed Garp’s strong suspicion. The Ikki before him was indeed the masked man who had appeared decades ago.
Back then, Rouge and Ace hadn’t truly died; they had been saved by Ikki and another masked figure, and then Ikki had brought Rouge back to the present through time and space.
Most people didn’t fully comprehend time travel, but Garp, having read the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia, knew very well about a miraculous fruit called the Time-Time Fruit. However... if he remembered correctly, the Time-Time Fruit could only travel into the future, not back to the past. This left Garp somewhat puzzled.
Puzzled, but not deterred. Garp already knew that no frontal assault could break through the Dodge Cloak. So, he began to move at high speed, baiting Ikki towards a deserted area – exactly what he wanted.
After all, the bar was full of people, and injuring innocent villagers during a fight would be unacceptable. The two figures chased each other until they reached a secluded spot.
"Boy Ikki! The masked man I saw decades ago was indeed you!" Garp declared. "Who’s the other one? Let me guess... it’s Ace!"
Ikki replied. Garp, despite his carefree demeanor, was incredibly shrewd. Given his and Rouge’s simultaneous appearance, it wasn’t surprising that Garp had deduced he was the masked man from decades past.
"Yeah! It was me and Ace!" Ikki sighed. "Ace was crying and shouting to find his mother. There was nothing else I could do, so I took him back in time to find her!"
Garp: ....
Ikki expected that after explaining the situation, Garp would cease his attacks. But who would have thought this old man, with no respect for martial ethics, would immediately launch a sneak attack? After their brief exchange, Garp charged again without a word.
This time, he unleashed a continuous barrage of surprise attacks. He was so fast that the Dodge Cloak gradually began to lose its effectiveness. Not only that, even Ikki’s Sharingan struggled to clearly perceive Garp’s movements. Ikki hadn’t expected that after decades, Garp would become older, yet his strength had increased rather than diminished.
Ikki attempted to face Garp head-on with his Armament Haki, but with just one punch, Ikki was left completely numb. As a last resort, Ikki finally unleashed his trump card: The Wrestler.
Upon seeing The Wrestler, Garp’s eyes immediately lit up. He had been waiting decades for this little guy. Garp constantly trained his core strength specifically to defeat The Wrestler and prevent him from taking him down. Now, having reunited with his old rival, Garp became truly serious.
