One Piece: Transmigrated as Crocodile
Chapter 170 - CHAPTER 170 - The Situation on Frans Island
"So many monsters have appeared at sea, and the zombies are all restless," Rosen and his group arrived at Brond's docking area. They set sail before the lockdown order was issued. Since Rosen's situation hadn't been communicated to the lower naval branches, they faced no immediate trouble, but Rosen knew this was only temporary.
The ship Brond had arranged wasn't large, but it was decent enough to carry about a hundred people. Besides Rosen and his companions, there were also pirates who had sensed the drastic changes in Lantis and decided to evacuate.
"This trip has been a huge loss. We didn't make any money, and now we have to pay such a hefty fare for this ship. Damn it, I don't know what's gotten into those monsters and the people of Lantis!" a pirate captain cursed.
Most of the others wore grim expressions, with only a few who had made some gains remaining silent.
As the ship crossed the sacred waters, piercing alarms echoed across the sea, signaling that from this moment on, any vessel entering or leaving Lantis, including merchant ships, would be attacked. Even unannounced naval warships approaching would be sunk by the cannons from the naval bases on the eight islands.
"The complete lockdown has begun," Rosen muttered, his expression grave. Fortunately, they were no longer within the lockdown zone. Soon, they would reach Frans Island.
However, along the way, the ship encountered numerous attacks from mutated sea monsters. In the short distance, they faced at least ten such encounters.
The zombies seemed to have gone berserk due to Charles's earlier orders, or perhaps the scent of blood from the battlefield had driven them wild.
Upon disembarking, Rosen carried a cloth bag containing the unconscious Charles. He immediately sensed that something was amiss on Frans Island. Whether Brond was present or not was secondary; the island was in chaos. There were sounds of disorder and gunfire, with thick smoke rising from nearby buildings.
At the dock, some skilled pirates were on duty.
"What's happening on the island?" Rosen asked, frowning.
"The number of monsters from Lantis Island is increasing. Many have already started landing on the island today. Mr. Bront left Francs Island ahead of us, and we're the last batch of guards for the ships," one pirate replied with a frown.
"The monsters have crossed the sea?" Rosen was surprised. The only known sea creatures were the sirens, and scattered sirens landing on the island should have been manageable for the navy.
"Yes, and there are quite a few of them. I don't know what's gotten into them," the pirate nodded.
If the sirens had advanced from the depths of the sea, it was possible for them to survive and reach the island. However, Rosen believed it was more likely that Charles had issued an attack command during his roar from the abyss.
The defenses on the eight islands had weakened significantly, allowing more of these creatures to slip through. Rosen had encountered some before arriving at Francs Island, but back then, they weren't bold enough to attack human settlements, or perhaps their numbers were too few to pose a threat.
"Let's go," Rosen said, though he was taken aback by the situation. It was clear that things were taking a turn for the worse. From the sounds he heard, this wasn't a minor disturbance. However, it didn't affect Rosen much. His priority was to reach the agreed location and find Robin and the others.
Robin had just contacted him, informing him that Bones' condition was critical due to the lack of vitality to sustain him. Rosen, carrying Pitas, who was ready to collect money, and the calm Law, headed toward the meeting point.
Bang!
As the three walked down the main street, everyone around them was in a hurry. Suddenly, a siren burst out of a building, startling the island's residents. Screams and panic began to spread.
The siren was massive, over ten meters long, and ordinary people couldn't handle it. Rosen glanced at it, noticing that it was blocking his path.
"Desert Spada."
Whoosh!
A sharp sand blade rose from the ground, piercing the siren's head and killing it instantly.
"Where are the marines? Have they all gone to the island?" Rosen wondered. He didn't know that most of the marines from the eight islands had been deployed to assist in the battle when he was thrown into the pit.
He also hadn't anticipated such a massive monster uprising today. Although it wasn't yet a full-blown disaster, the initial chaos was evident, and the marines were overwhelmed by the sheer number of incidents and their limited manpower.
Robin and the others, due to the bounty placed on Rosen by the underground world of the Andia Kingdom, had been keeping a low profile. Their ship was hidden beneath a protruding reef along the coast.
In fact, since yesterday, bounty hunters and pirates seeking hefty rewards had been searching the islands for Rosen's whereabouts. Unfortunately, Rosen had been on Lantis Island, but now, on the way, they had encountered a few waves of pirates, though they were just small fry.
Rosen knew that news of his presence on Frans Island would spread quickly, given the crowded and watchful environment.
Soon, they found the Dawn, where Robin, Mr. 5, Valentine, and a Kung Fu Dugong were waiting. The dugong eagerly jumped onto Rosen's shoulder, clearly missing him. It felt like a long time since it had last seen its master.
"Are you injured?" Rosen's expression darkened as he noticed the wounds on Mr. 5 and Valentine.
"Boss, it's not a big deal. We ran into some clueless guys asking about your whereabouts. We taught them a lesson, but their captain was quite strong, so..." Mr. 5 stammered.
Clearly, they had fought some of them but were ultimately overpowered by the enemy captain. In fact, they didn't mention that if Robin hadn't reported the pirates' hideout to the marines, leading to a naval raid, the pirates might have taken them hostage to force Rosen's appearance.
"Robin, take him inside to check on Bones' condition," Rosen instructed.
Robin smiled and nodded, gracefully picking up the Kung Fu Dugong and heading toward the ship with Law following her.
Rosen inquired about the pirates' basic situation and got a rough understanding. However, he was surprised to learn that the pirates were still on Frans Island, and the marines were turning a blind eye. Perhaps they knew the pirates were targeting Rosen, and without any reports, the marines chose to ignore them.
After all, the current situation was complicated. If Robin hadn't used some tricks, the marines wouldn't have intervened.
A moment later.
"How is it? Can you save him?" Rosen asked as Law emerged from the room after examining Bones' condition.
"It's a bit tricky. You don't have many medical supplies on board. I need some medicine to stabilize his condition during the surgery, but yes, I can save him," Law replied.
Though the situation was indeed challenging, with his medical skills and the Ope Ope no Mi's ability to perform surgery without causing harm, he could save Bones' life.
"I'll go out for a bit," Rosen said, barely sitting down before taking charge.
"Here's the list of medicines. You can get them at any regular clinic," Law handed Rosen a pre-written list.
"Boss, let us handle the errands," Mr. 5 and Valentine offered.
"I'll go out, but you come with me. It's also a chance to identify someone," Rosen nodded.
