One Piece: Transmigrated as Crocodile
Chapter 229 - CHAPTER 229 - Luring the God Out
Enel moved swiftly. Though he hadn't decided whether to strike again personally, his divine army was already on the move. Including the four high priests, the entire force numbered just fifty.
But each of them had clawed their way up through bloodshed. They were skilled fighters, loyal servants of Enel, the self-proclaimed god. Under his orders, these fifty had gathered on the coast where Rosen and the others were expected to land.
"Kill all intruders!" High Priest Daigo of the Forest said coldly, his round, ball-like body standing atop a spherical cloud.
No sooner had he spoken than the Dawn's cannons roared. Over ten cannons fired simultaneously, blasting away some members of the divine army who failed to dodge in time. Few were killed outright, though.
As long as they weren't hit directly, the shockwaves alone weren't enough to kill them.
"Sea Dugong, Mr. 5, and Valentine, take over the battlefield here. If you're in danger, call for backup. This won't be an easy fight for you. Watch out for their shells. Natalie, Hathaway, Robin, Bonez, you're with me." As the Dawn reached the shore, Rosen immediately gave out orders.
Though the high priests and divine soldiers hadn't shown up again in the latter stages of Enel's rule, their strength was nothing to scoff at, especially with various types of shell-based support gear.
Still, Rosen believed that Mr. 5, Valentine, and Sea Bull were capable enough to hold their own.
He didn't want to waste time being bogged down by minor enemies. Just now, Natalie had scouted a location where hundreds had gathered—Rosen had to reach it without delay.
"Leave it to us," Mr. 5 said confidently.
Since setting out to sea, his strength had grown immensely. His abilities had developed significantly. In recent days, Hathaway had even subjected them to intense "inhuman" training, and his confidence had begun to swell.
Not only had he developed explosive attacks from his mouth, he also created a sprint-based explosive charge, making his entire combat style more destructive.
"Enel, if you destroy my ship, I'll destroy yours. I'm here now—if you want your Ark to stay intact, come defend it yourself! Hahaha…" Rosen laughed wildly. If he couldn't lure Enel out, the entire operation would fail.
"Bastard!" Enel had been observing the battlefield since the fighting began. He hadn't acted yet, waiting for the right moment. But now he was stunned—how did this Blue Sea man know he was building an Ark?!
Could it be that this Blue Sea man had been in contact with the original God's Guard who were building the Ark? But how was that possible under his constant surveillance?
Regardless, the Ark was something he had been working on for years. After defeating Gan Fall, he had deliberately left the God's Guard behind to build it for him. In fact, his main purpose in coming here was precisely to complete it.
The Ark represented his hope and vision for the future. He couldn't afford to lose it. Though it wasn't quite complete, if push came to shove, he was prepared to activate it.
Those damn Blue Sea people—he had already spared them, and yet they'd followed him here. Unforgivable.
In an instant, Enel transformed into a bolt of lightning and shot toward the Ark's construction site. He didn't dare delay. From the route those Blue Sea intruders were taking, it was clear they were headed for the Ark.
"There seems to be some disturbance at the Holy Land. Should we check it out?" a Shandian warrior asked, turning to Wiper the Battle Demon.
"Gather the warriors. We'll go take a look, but don't go too deep," Wiper said grimly.
The new god was nothing like the old one, Gan Fall. He wasn't just powerful—he was cruel. Over the years, they had already lost many warriors.
Though he hated to admit it, surviving under Enel's rule had been an uphill struggle.
Hundreds of the original God's Guard had been imprisoned by Enel, forced to work day and night on the Ark. Those who slacked off were killed. Some who resisted were executed too. From over six hundred workers, fewer than four hundred remained alive.
The Ark was now nearing completion.
Enel descended there, instantly drawing the attention of the enslaved laborers. Due to the construction needs, Enel even allowed them to use all kinds of tools and weapons.
"How much is left?" Enel asked a designated foreman.
"Lord God, just one golden gear and some finishing touches inside and out."
"That's not a problem. You've worked hard all this time. As thanks, I'll let you be destroyed before Sky Island is—so you won't have to experience despair," Enel said flatly.
"Lord God, did you just say… destroy Sky Island?" the foreman froze. They may have submitted to Enel, but he wasn't foolish—he had promised them that once the Ark was complete, they could return to reunite with their families.
"That's right. Is there a problem?" Enel asked as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Now that his enemies had come to him, he would simply eliminate them all, including the Blue Sea people. Then, he could finally pursue his Endless Vearth.
These people no longer held any value.
"What?!" The rest of the God's Guard froze as well. Each one tightened their grip on their tools.
"Kill him! He never planned to let us go! He's been deceiving us from the start! And now he wants to destroy Sky Island too?! He's insane!" one shipwright roared, charging at Enel with a weapon, consumed by rage.
All these years, the only thing keeping them going was the hope of seeing their families again.
And now Enel wanted to wipe out Sky Island? That was unthinkable—their families were still there.
One man charged, and the others followed. The so-called god didn't even bother to lie to them. That alone pushed them to despair—it meant the power gap was insurmountable.
Enel looked at the mob of workers surging toward him without even blinking. His eyes barely moved as he reached out, electricity beginning to glow between his index fingers. He extended his arms and unleashed it.
"Discharge—5 million volts!"
Zzzzt—! The first row of charging men was instantly electrocuted and collapsed to the ground.
"So it really does matter to you." Rosen, just arriving at the cave's entrance, smiled. To Enel, the Ark was truly irreplaceable. That meant Rosen's plan had already half succeeded.
"Keep your eyes on him!" Rosen ordered Hathaway and Boness. Robin and Natalie followed behind them. Rosen then placed his hand on a modest mound of earth, which instantly dissolved into a swirl of rising sand.
Whoosh…! The sand twisted and rose, revealing everyone hidden inside. Enel and his Ark now stood fully exposed, with the shipwrights charging toward him again.
"You're pretty good at bullying the weak, aren't you, Lord God?" Rosen smiled at Enel.
"Blue Sea trash, enjoy your moment while it lasts. Soon, you'll all be too dead to laugh. Yahahaha! Let's all go down with Sky Island!" Enel ignored the shipwrights and leapt onto the Ark, activating it as he did.
