Only You: The Billionaire's Obsession
Chapter 41: I Have the Absolute Ability to Defeat Any Rival in Love
CHAPTER 41: CHAPTER 41: I HAVE THE ABSOLUTE ABILITY TO DEFEAT ANY RIVAL IN LOVE
This document is entirely about exposing Pei Nianchen’s dark past.
A fatal dark past.
In black and white, it records in detail a mistake Pei Nianchen made that goes against the law.
Three years ago, Pei Nianchen led troops deep into the snowy plains to eliminate a major criminal organization. They were caught in a sudden blizzard, and over a dozen people were trapped in the snow, struggling to survive.
Trapped for over ten days, unable to leave the snow, they could drink melted snow when thirsty, but without food, even the toughest warrior couldn’t hold out.
Faced with the choice of life and death, right and wrong are hard to hold onto. The starving soldiers, driven to madness, executed their captives and hunted down a critically endangered national first-class protected animal, roasting and eating it.
As the leader, Pei Nianchen personally gave the order to hunt and participated in eating it. They were fighters who had fought hard, and they naturally wouldn’t allow themselves to starve to death.
Although in extreme conditions and a life-or-death choice, right and wrong cannot be judged by common rationality. However, in this civilized society, under the law framework, they broke the law.
If investigated, this matter may be controversial, but if someone with malicious intent decides to expose it, Pei Nianchen would not remain unaffected, and could even face imprisonment.
This should have always been a secret, and those dozen people wouldn’t speak of it, but Sheng Qianchi somehow managed to learn of this secret. Gu Jiayin knew that if he didn’t have solid evidence and confidence, he wouldn’t show her this document.
Contrasting Gu Jiayin’s pale complexion, Sheng Qianchi seemed quite unruffled. He unclasped his cuffs, rolled up his sleeves a bit, revealing a strong and fair wrist. His fingers, distinctly jointed, lifted the wine glass, slowly bringing it to his lips and sipping gracefully.
Only when the glass of red wine was finished did he slowly raise his gaze, looking at Gu Jiayin’s face. Her small palm-sized face was framed by her dark hair, pale as paper.
She twisted her red lips sarcastically, "Do you intend to use this document to force me to be your woman?"
Her voice was also dripping with sarcasm but was noticeably more scattered, not as firm and sharp as before.
Ultimately, she still cared very much for Pei Nianchen, although the love had faded, the foundational emotions were still there. She didn’t want him to get hurt, much less because of her.
Sheng Qianchi poured himself another glass of red wine, lightly swirling it, speaking in an indifferent tone,
"No, I said I wouldn’t force you. Someday, I’ll make you willingly want to be my woman. I’m just telling you that I have the absolute capability to defeat any rival in love. Whether to leave Pei Nianchen or not is up to you."
Gu Jiayin, "..."
Let her decide herself.
Ha! Does she even have a choice?
After a long while, she said, "I will break up with him."
Her voice seemed to scatter into the air, like dust settling into the soil, traceless.
Sad? She doesn’t know.
Melancholy? She doesn’t know.
Her heart is truly somewhat numb.
Sheng Qianchi put down his wine glass, took the document, tucked it into the leather folder, and tossed it back to its original spot.
Finally, he uttered a word, calmly, heavily, "Good."
It was a certainty long anticipated, and a dominion as expected.
He lifted his gaze to her, and his facial lines seemed noticeably more relaxed and joyful than before. Glancing at the brilliance outside the aircraft window, he smiled and took her hand.
Her hand, snow-white, cold, slender.
While his hand, broad, warm, distinctly jointed.
When he held her hand, he could completely envelop it.
"I’ll take you to have an aerial view of the island’s scenery."
Island?
Gu Jiayin looked up in astonishment, glancing at the man’s handsome and well-defined side profile, "What island?"
She had always thought he was taking her back to Licheng City.
Sheng Qianchi inserted his left hand into his pant pocket, holding Gu Jiayin’s hand with his right, gradually walking to the window side, looking down, "Naturally, my private island."
Gu Jiayin’s first feeling was aversion, "Why bring me here?"
"The outside is so chaotic, isn’t it nice to have a few quiet days here?"
A few days? To spend a few days alone on the island with him?
Without thinking, Gu Jiayin refused, "I don’t want to stay here. I still have to participate in the Wine Tasting Competition."
"Don’t worry, it won’t interfere."
As he spoke, Sheng Qianchi pulled Gu Jiayin in front of him, holding her shoulders with both hands, "Look down, the island is beautiful. You will definitely like it here."
Gu Jiayin looked down, at this moment the plane was already slowly descending, the entire view of the island could be seen.
The island wasn’t very large, just a few thousand square meters in size, roughly an irregular circle, but it was very well developed. The roads were wide and tidy, the villas uniquely styled.
Many trees were planted on the island, mostly evergreen species, interspersed with a few patches of pear trees, blooming now like piles of snow.
The island was indeed beautiful, a paradise on earth.
The plane landed on the helipad in front of the villa, and as the gangway slowly descended, Sheng Qianchi took Gu Jiayin’s hand and led her off the plane.
The helipad was several meters above the ground, with steps leading down. Sheng Qianchi was about to lead Gu Jiayin down, but she stood still, looking displeased.
"What’s wrong?"
Sheng Qianchi also stopped, turning to look at the woman whose hair was ruffled by the wind; her face was full of resistance.
Gu Jiayin faced the sea breeze, her long hair spread across her fair face, appearing disordered but, in the wind, harmonious. Yet her beautiful eyes hidden behind the strands were exceptionally bright.
Just like her clear mind.
What she wants, what she doesn’t want, she knows very well.
And Sheng Qianchi is what she doesn’t want.
She wasn’t inclined to fix her hair, allowing it to spread across her face. Her voice was cold to the point of having no warmth, "Sheng Qianchi, I don’t like it here, and I don’t want to live here."
Her words drifted into his ears with the sea wind, real yet elusive.
"I want to return to Licheng City immediately."
He brought her here, clearly intending to conquer her, make her willingly become his woman, but she didn’t want that.
His conquest bore no trace of sentiment, just a powerful and noble man amusing himself by toying with a pet, enjoying being needed and relied upon by it.
But she never wanted to be a pet.
Especially not Sheng Qianchi’s pet.
So her stance was very firm. She had never been moved before, wasn’t swayed now, and wouldn’t change in the future.
Sheng Qianchi’s windbreaker was draped over Gu Jiayin, so he was only wearing a thin black shirt now. In the sea breeze, his dark hair took on a different appearance, and his shirt billowed in irregular curves, yet he stood tall and handsome like a deity.
Looking at the stubbornly cold woman in front of him, he had a strong desire to conquer, though he was slightly annoyed — never before had a woman rejected him so coldly.
He suddenly reached out to pinch her chin, making her face him, then curved his lips in an enigmatic smile while secretly applying a bit of pressure with his fingers.
