When Assistant Li returned, this was the scene he saw.

"Miss Zhang, what brings you here?"

Clearly, Assistant Li was aware of the situation.

However, with Ji Yu present, he couldn’t say too much.

"Oh, it’s nothing. I just came to take a look. Look at me now, I’m already like this. Xiao certainly likes me, doesn’t he?"

She seemed particrly fixated on this matter.

But how could Assistant Li dare to say such things in front of Ji Yu?

Wasn’t that just asking to get into trouble?

"You might have misunderstood. President Gu sees you purely as a friend and has no other intentions."

He spoke firmly, fearing Ji Yu might get the wrong idea.

When Ji Yu heard this, she knew for sure this situation had developed while she wasn’t around. Whether she had been aware of it in the past or not was another matter entirely.

"Assistant Li, you surely know that the child in my belly belongs to Gu Qixiao, don’t you?"

She deliberately teased the young woman.

Indeed, Zhang Yaoyue wanted to know if this was true. If it was, then she really would have no chance going forward.

She stared at Assistant Li with wide, hopeful eyes.

Assistant Li could only steel his nerves and say, "Of course your child belongs to President Gu. His meeting will be over shortly. Perhaps you can discuss which restaurant to go toter?"

He tried to steer the topic elsewhere, but the atmosphere was already tense. The young woman was practically on the verge of exploding, feeling as though Ji Yu’s sudden appearance had stolen everything from her.

"I don’t believe it. You must be conspiring to trick me and Xiao! Xiao is so disciplined and reserved—how could he possibly do something as scandalous as having a child before marriage?"

To be fair, this really was just an ident.

If not for Ji Yu, Gu Qixiao likely wouldn’t have had a child so early.

But Gu Qixiao was genuinely happy about the situation.

At the very least, it had strengthened their bond.

"Whether or not the child belongs to Gu Qixiao, don’t you already know? You just don’t want to believe it. But does disbelief get you anywhere? The truth is right in front of you. Refusing to believe it is merely self-deception."

Ji Yu was already feeling suffocated by how painful the situation was.

She didn’t understand why things had taken this turn, but the words that came out of Ji Yu’s mouth felt like knives slicing into Zhang Yaoyue’s heart. She truly didn’t know how to face whaty before her.

Just at that moment, Gu Qixiao finished his meeting. Seeing the scene, he immediately knew something was wrong.

Spotting Zhang Yaoyue, he let out a helpless sigh.

"Why are you here again?"

Though Zhang Yaoyue was the sister of a friend of his, she absolutely couldn’t keep showing up to make trouble.

Ji Yu raised her eyebrows, clearly recognizing the familiarity between them.

"This youngdy said she wanted to be your secretary. Gu Qixiao, I didn’t realize how many secretaries you actually needed."

Gu Qixiao felt utterly helpless about this matter.

"That’s impossible! Not only would she not be allowed, but even her brother wouldn’t agree to it. Yu, you have to believe me—this whole thing was an ident. I have absolutely no other intentions."

He had worked so hard to find Ji Yu again. If Ji Yu misunderstood him now, he’d truly have no way to clear his name.

"I don’t misunderstand anything. I’m just curious whether the past me had any knowledge of this situation or not."

"She showed up after you left for Xia Chuanhe’s side. She didn’t know about you, and you didn’t know about her." In reality, during that period, nobody had been able to stay at Gu Qixiao’s side.

Much less someone like Zhang Yaoyue, who clearly had ulterior motives.

On this matter, Ji Yu truly had no reason to doubt him.

Looking at how Gu Qixiao usually behaved, it was impossible for him to develop feelings for someone else so casually.

"Little girl, you’ll meet someone better than him in the future. This is only temporary. You just need to see more of the world."

No matter how great Gu Qixiao was, he couldn’t possibly belong to her.

Zhang Yaoyue was visibly devastated by this.

Only heaven knew how much pain she felt in her heart right now.

She had once believed Gu Qixiao was hers, but now it turned out he already had a fiancée. Worst of all, that fiancée was pregnant.

After all, this kind of love was something that belonged solely to him and Ji Yu.

No one else could possibly understand how happy the two of them were together.

She remained stubborn about the matter, acting as though she could ept being merely a friend as long as it meant she could stay close to him.

But Gu Qixiao cared deeply about this.

After everything he had gone through to bring Ji Yu back, if there were any misunderstandings now, he truly couldn’t bear it.

"Yu means the world to me. No one will ever surpass her importance to me."
