CHAPTER 52: THE PSYCHOTIC NEPHIS

The shadows were soon dealt with, leaving only the human figure behind.

It was a human, however there were strange scars outlining his facial features.

He stared at Arthur and the rest without much emotion in his eyes, as though he had accepted his fate.

Arthur and the rest stared back, a look of apprehension in their eyes.

"Wait!" Jason suddenly drew everyone’s attention as he stared at the man.

"I recognise him. He was among the group of villagers we encountered when we entered the city!"

Instantly Arthur and Aella turned to Jason.

"Are you sure about that?" Arthur asked, raising his brow and staring at Jason curiously.

Snorting, Jason replied in disdain, "it’s only normal that a country bumpkin like you won’t recall this happening."

As though thinking Aella might be offended, he changed his tone and continued, "of course I recall seeing him clearly. Aside from the ones who came to beg us for foodstuffs, he was with the remaining villagers."

Everyone turned their gaze back to the villager with scars on his face.

Aella’s eyes flashed with a strange look as she said coldly, "you better start talking."

The villager sneered and spat at her face.

Fortunately, a chill spread through the air as the spit froze midair and fell to the ground before shattering into countless ice shards.

"I know a way to make him talk," Nephis suddenly said from the side, her lips barely moving.

Everyone turned to her and Arthur was also curious about what she was trying to do.

Nephis had never told him she had a method to force someone to speak the truth.

The calamity’s lips curled into a knowing smirk. "Torture."

The way she said it made a chill crawl down everyone’s spines.

"Torture?" Arthur questioned, just to be sure.

"Yes. As long as we torture him enough, we can get a satisfactory amount of information from him." Hearing her words, everyone’s eyes flashed with a strange look.

What Nephis said wasn’t wrong, however...

They couldn’t help glancing at each other.

None of them was cruel enough to torture the man so severely that he would talk. Especially not if he had strong willpower and was unwilling to say anything for a long time.

The villager listened in on their conversation and sneered coldly in disdain.

"No matter how much you torture me, I will never talk!"

"Are you sure about that?" Nephis’ lips curled up once more as a dagger appeared in her hand.

With none of the others objecting, she stepped forward and immediately made her move.

A sickening squelch resounded as the stench of blood drifted into the air.

Nephis had sliced off a part of the man’s skin.

The reddish flesh underneath was revealed to them all.

She grinned, then sliced off the skin on his other arm.

Arrrrgggghhhhh.

A guttural roar akin to a pig being slaughtered echoed through the air as the man felt indescribable pain rack through his body.

An overwhelming amount of blood began pouring out from the cut on his skin.

Arthur and the others wrinkled their brows in disgust, not expecting to witness such brutality.

Arthur, who was Nephis’ master, glanced at her and felt a chill run down his spine.

Damn! He cursed silently, never expecting to see this psychotic side of Nephis.

There was even a glow of excitement on her face as she sliced off the skin of the old man repeatedly, causing him to scream loudly.

Nephis paused in her torture and raised the man’s chin to let his gaze meet her black veil.

"Are you ready to speak?"

The man coughed repeatedly and spat at Nephis.

She seemed to have predicted the motion and quickly dodged to the side.

Turning back to the man, she sighed. "It seems you haven’t learnt your lesson here."

After she finished speaking, Nephis’ dagger moved at lightning speed, slicing off the man’s clothes and revealing his naked body to the trio.

There were strange lines running around his body and as he was exposed to the crowd he instinctively tried to cover his private area.

The itching pain on his torn hands made it very difficult to cover his crotch, but having a faint premonition that Nephis wanted to do something extremely horrible to him, he could only grit his teeth and cover himself as best he could.

Nephis didn’t seem to mind.

She raised the dagger, and her hand movements turned into something similar to a blur with ghastly precision.

Slash! Slash! Slash!

Her dagger moved at lightning speed and with each movement blood splattered onto the ground and a piece of the man’s skin was torn off.

"Arrrrrrgggghhh!"

The villager let out a terrifying scream as he crouched low and tried covering himself from the pain.

With each of Nephis’ movements, a piece of his flesh was stripped away and the man looked less and less human.

The sight was extremely gruesome and Arthur even felt the urge to vomit upon witnessing such a display.

He stared at Nephis once more, the chill in his heart increasing.

Seeing her attacking sequence, a certain method of execution from his previous life popped back into his mind.

Death by a thousand cuts. Arthur couldn’t count them but he guessed the cuts on the man’s body had probably surpassed a hundred by now.

Jason also felt a sickening feeling rise in his mind as he turned his eyes away, casting a sidelong glance at Arthur.

With such a psychopathic monster by Arthur’s side, could he really keep having conflicts with Arthur?

What if one day Nephis snapped and decided to use him as a target?

His eyes moved to Titan beside Arthur.

That behemoth with terrifying movement ability and all sorts of elemental and attacking capabilities, he wasn’t even sure he could defeat it.

Then, if the three of them ganged up on him, he would definitely be as good as dead.

Fuck! Jason cursed silently in his heart, subconsciously distancing himself from Arthur.

Nephis was done slicing off all the flesh on the villager’s body aside from his nether region and his head.

She paused for only an instant, not seeming tired in the least.

Since the man was a player, his physical capabilities had been enhanced far above that of a normal human.

So even if he bled out for days, there was a chance he wouldn’t die yet.

Because of this, Nephis could injure him as much as she wanted.

In truth, she was amazed by the sheer willpower of the villager.

She didn’t expect him to last this long.

After praising him slightly in her heart, she moved once more, starting with his scalp.

In one swift motion she had dealt away with all the hair on his head, then moved to the skin beneath.

Swish! Swish! Swish!

The attack continued at lightning speed, causing the man to immediately shout like a slaughtered pig.

The man’s head was sliced bit by bit, revealing pieces of his skull, and there were even cracks forming across it.

"I’ll talk! I will fucking talk!" the man suddenly shouted with all his might as a snapping sound was heard.

It sounded like something within his body had shattered with a resounding bang and he immediately turned to Nephis with a pleading expression on his face.

His expression was extremely twisted and hideous as snot and tears filled his face.

Nephis paused slightly, then turned to Arthur and back to the man before asking in a light voice, "what is the name of the person who created the dungeon and sent you here to place them?"

There was no hesitation in the man’s voice as he immediately tried to reply.

"His name is, his name... his name..."

Just as the villager was about to continue, a strange figure appeared in his mind.

The figure was towering like the skies above him, filling his thoughts and forcing him to look up at the sky as though trying to see the face of the man who seemed like the heavens to him.

The heavens’ gaze seemed to descend onto him as a voice rumbled in his mind like thunder.

"No one is allowed to say my name."

Boom.

Immediately the man felt his brain explode.

Sensing danger, Nephis instantly rushed toward Arthur and dragged him backward.

Titan also used the space element and appeared in front of Arthur.

The villager who had been tortured exploded violently, sending bones and flesh flying around.

The one most affected was Jason, as he was closest, and a bone pierced through his ribs.

Aella was only mildly injured.

Meanwhile, Arthur was the only one who remained unharmed under the protection of his two calamities.

Everyone stared dumbfounded at the place where the tortured villager had been.

"What... happened?" Arthur couldn’t help asking as he peered through Titan’s armor.

A chill instantly entered everyone’s hearts.

This was far bigger than any of them had ever in their life anticipated.
