CHAPTER 43: BEACH PARTY

Eventually the expected night came, and at one of the resort’s reserved beaches several dozen teens in their sixteens and seventeens could be seen in plain shirts, tank tops, shorts, beach pants, sarongs and more.

Seated at the bar, where only fruit drinks were served, Cecil proudly shook her long bob cut, enjoying the looks she was getting from Polaris students and some of the boys in their class who had never seen her look like this.

However, she only got that glance after they were done admiring the charming sixteen-year-old Isolde, who, due to her constant gym attendance, natural beauty, and the extra work done to her pretty golden-white hair and light touch of make-up on her already enchanting face, drew attention wherever she moved. She had that killer look.

No one, not even females, could glance past her without pausing to take a second look. The only deterrent was her strength, so no one dared go drink with her or even propose she played a game with them.

Cecil, on the other hand, had been invited several times, but she remained seated two seats away from Isolde, watching the Manhattan Queen stare into her phone from the corner of her eye.

Turning to the group of boys playing volleyball, her eyes narrowed at the sight of Polaris’ handsome elites.

They formed Team Polaris and played against Team Manhattan, led by Snow, who was the only one that matched their captivating handsome looks.

Of course she could tell most of them hired someone with a similar summon to Snow to enhance their looks; it was common for those aspiring to become Entertainers in guilds.

Plastic surgery was a thing of the past with the birth of such summons. Seeing Team Polaris beat her school team, Cecil clicked her tongue.

"Why isn’t Godfrey here?" She finally turned to Isolde, saying what had been in her mind from the moment she stepped into this party ground.

Isolde tightened her grip around the transparent cup, lines appearing on her forehead. "I thought he would be here." She bit her lip in frustration. She decided to check the message she sent and saw he hadn’t even seen it.

"It’s still switched off," Isolde muttered. Though she muttered under her breath, Cecil heard it, rose to her feet with a faint smile and walked away.

Meanwhile, at the balcony of a building overlooking the beach party, Edwin leaned against the glass railing with Julia and the Polaris homeroom teacher, Felicity. Felicity stood with her arms crossed, watching the teens enjoy themselves, some chilling in the water, some doing a swimming competition, some brawling, some playing simple card games, but the most watched was volleyball. It had quite the crowd.

"Where is the one who killed the sandworms and wounded two of my students?" she asked, tilting her head slightly toward Edwin.

"You mean Godfrey?"

"Yes," Felicity replied with a nod, turning her eyes toward Isolde. "There’s a certain someone waiting for him. I could see the expectation in her eyes the moment she entered the party. She looked good and she knew it. She came to show it and even gained the shocked stares of Polaris’ best, yet she looks disappointed. I guess it has to be because of that boy, then."

Felicity harrumphed. "Such an exotic girl is already the sight of Alistair and Nathaniel." When Felicity said that, Edwin noticed that Nathaniel was indeed not hiding his glances toward her while Alistair nudged his chest, whispering to him and shooting glances at Isolde. Nathaniel laughed before they resumed the game. Their act, however, made Edwin realize what Felicity was saying.

"Why is he absent?" Julia asked softly.

Edwin sipped his fruit juice with a nonchalant expression. "Isn’t it obvious? He’s probably meditating. He might as well store the little mana he can."

"Then his girl will be snatched," Felicity shrugged as she watched James, the boy that killed the Igni raptor before Godfrey could land the final blow, approach Isolde.

"I don’t think Isolde is anyone’s girl," Julia said inwardly, but with little skepticism.

Unaware of the adults watching, James came to Isolde’s side and she glanced at him from the corner of her eye. ’God, she’s beautiful. Tsk! She’s already Alistair’s.’ After thinking this internally, he cleared his throat. "The Polaris king would like to join you."

"Sure!" Cecil replied instantly. Isolde turned, slightly stunned to see that Cecil was back and from the look of it, she had just come and was about to sit. "There’s no harm in speaking with the Polaris king. You represent Manhattan as its queen," Cecil said with a smile.

’Anything that will put Godfrey against Polaris, even if that includes you, Isolde,’ she chuckled inwardly. She watched James rush to get Alistair, but to her shock, Isolde took her phone and left the bar.

Midway she met Alistair walking over with a group of boys; while tucking her hair behind her ear she said, "Go ahead. Join her." She gestured at Cecil, who sat at the bar with a shocked expression, and walked off.

After leaving the party, she tried Godfrey’s line but it was still switched off. "Godfrey, I’ll bite your nose out once I get to your apartment and find out you’re fine and didn’t bother to inform me that you were not coming!" Isolde’s face distorted in anger as she made her way through the silent street, which sloped upward.

A couple of steps later, she noticed someone behind her; a faint smile formed on her lips as she spun. "So you were there all along and—!" Her excitement faded as swiftly as it came when Nathaniel appeared in her path.

The Polaris elite, with deep rich brown skin and bright eyes, chuckled softly. "I just came. I don’t think you should be walking alone. Can I escort you?"

"I can do just fine." Isolde turned to walk away. Seeing her walking off, Nathaniel chased after her, about to touch her shoulder when her cold voice froze his arm midair.

"Don’t you dare."
