Otherworldly Affairs Office

Looking at the gloomy sky that had just experienced a light rain in the morning, the gentle breeze brushing across his cheeks was refreshingly cool. The air was filled with the fragrance of earth post-rain. Watching the soldiers busily unloading in front of him and then glancing at the leaders seated in the distant long shed, Pei Yan let out a long sigh.
He originally thought he was being brought to the Golden Eagle Special Forces warehouse to absorb materials, as always, but only just discovered the higher-ups' emphasis on him today. They required an on-site observation of his actual combat capabilities. Seeing the leaders in that shed, besides the Investigation Office senior officials he knew, there was also a big group of army leaders. Judging by the epaulettes, he knew those coming were of high rank!
"Do your best; the higher-ups have invested heavily this time! Your future evolution and how much material you can absorb will depend on how strong you perform in front of these leaders today!" Engineer Li noticed Pei Yan's nervousness and whispered to him.
Pei Yan looked down in confusion: "Is it necessary to be so grand? To have so many leaders present?"
"You'll know later, this isn't only tied to your abilities but also affects the future development of the Investigation Office and many other matters. You must give it your all; remember my words, the stronger you perform, the more beneficial it is for you!" After saying this, Engineer Li gave Pei Yan a knowing look, watched the equipment finish unloading, ran to the side, and waved towards the shed, seeing a leader inside stand and nod in acknowledgment.
He then hurriedly ran back to Pei Yan and shouted: "Come on! These things are all yours!" Saying this, he pointed to a row of large boxes and shouted, "Open the boxes!"
Looking at the contents inside, Pei Yan's eyes were fixed: "These are all for me!"
"Exactly! We'll try them one by one!" Engineer Li said excitedly while rubbing his hands. He then moved to six huge containers, tapped on them, and said: "These are AL-31F engines dismantled from the Su-27 fighter jets nearing retirement. Don't blame the country for being stingy; assembling aircraft engines takes time, and the current production is all ordered long ago by the army. Even this took a lot of effort to squeeze out for you. Although they're not the latest, they've been serviced, and their performance is perfect."
"I won't mind, I won't mind; these must be worth quite a bit!" Pei Yan said excitedly, caressing the engines. Just by touching them, he could feel the deep craving from his internal system. If he didn't forcibly suppress it, he might have started swallowing them whole already.
"A brand new one would cost nearly ten million yuan; as for these depreciated ones... Why bother considering so much when you couldn't buy them anyway, and can you even purchase these things with money? Quickly, tell me, can you absorb them now?" Engineer Li interrupted himself with a pat on Pei Yan's back, urging him!
"Yes, yes!" Pei Yan nodded repeatedly and unabashedly spread his hands, closed his eyes, and numerous tiny threads sprang from his body, swarming towards the six engines, greedily absorbing.
Inside the shed, some leaders watched the live broadcast of the scene filmed by cameras on the TV screen, while others stood up with binoculars directly observing Pei Yan's absorption actions from afar.
Fifteen minutes later, having completely absorbed the six engines, Pei Yan joyfully looked at his hands, communicating with the system in his mind!
"How is it? How's the effect? Don't rush; there's still this! Inside are several propulsion schemes designed based on your characteristics by us and the aviation schools. Although they're just theoretical, they may be helpful to you!" Engineer Li took out a USB flash drive from his pocket and handed it to Pei Yan.
Pei Yan accepted the USB and directly absorbed it into his body, standing still, falling into silence again. While Engineer Li, filled with anticipation, stared at him unblinkingly, suddenly a beam of light flashed, Pei Yan completed full body mechanization. Then mechanical crevices opened on his back, slightly bulging, and two narrow exhaust ports popped out, subsequently, with the engine's roar, Pei Yan soared skyward.
At this moment, a commotion arose inside the shed, and all leaders came out, holding binoculars to observe Pei Yan struggling in the sky, apparently not yet adapted to this flying sensation.
"Old Zhang, will there be any incidents?" An army leader put down his binoculars, looking at Pei Yan, who was darting around like a headless fly, expressed concern.
Since Pei Yan joined the Investigation Office, Vice Admiral Zhang had been observing him secretly. At this moment, he was also unsure and answered vaguely, "Shouldn't there be any incidents!"
Unlike the concerned ground people, Pei Yan in the sky was about to go crazy with joy! Flying! Flying! Soaring flight! It was almost one of every boy's dreams in childhood. In gaining this ability, he had imagined this, himself! Today he finally realized this wish!
Ignoring the dizziness brought by weightlessness while swaying up, down, left, and right in the sky, Pei Yan cracked a big smile inside his visor, laughing heartily. He hadn't been this happy for a long time.
After a while, having flown around wildly until spending all his excitement, Pei Yan struggled to steady himself. With the suggestion from the system within his mind, he gradually adapted, gaining mastery of this flying manner, from chaotic flying initially to tightly controlling the engines behind him, then converting his limbs into jet ports for accelerated flight, Pei Yan began performing one dazzling complex movement after another in the sky, making people on the ground anxious for him. Not long after, they saw him accelerate, head up, and rush straight to the clouds, disappearing from everyone's sight.
"Where did he go? Where did he fly?" Seeing Pei Yan vanish, someone on the ground asked anxiously.
After a long observation without finding any trace of Pei Yan, Vice Admiral Zhang replied, slightly annoyed: "This young person is too impulsive! How could he fly this high on his first attempt? Sudden temperature drops at high altitude, what if his body encounters problems?"
"Look! Look, he's appearing!" Just then, a staff officer by his side shouted excitedly, holding binoculars pointing to the sky.
Everyone immediately looked in the direction he pointed, seeing a silver light descending from the sky. As it lowered height, Pei Yan's speed didn't slow down at all. Gu Shenghui and Elder Lin exchanged a glance, thinking it was unfavorable, predicting Pei Yan's landing point while rapidly running toward it.
But before they got there, Pei Yan's body, carrying a gust of wind, roared past them, raising dust. Gu Shenghui, with red eyes, watched Pei Yan whiz by close to the ground. After flying for a while on the flat land, he ascended again towards the sky.
"Write a review! You must write a review! This is not caring about your life! Too reckless!" Gu Shenghui shouted with anger, hands on hips, pointing at Pei Yan shooting skyward.
"Alright, young people are spirited, love showing off, we've all been through that age! Understandable, but this review, he must write! And it needs to be profound!" Elder Lin calmly said, twigs falling from his head as he spoke.
