CHAPTER 232: CHAPTER 232: NEW SUPPORT! (REQUEST SUBSCRIPTION)
"Damn, this freak really is something strange!" Staring at the creature whose intestines shortened and retracted themselves back into its body as the wound rapidly healed, Zhao Liben swallowed and expressed his heartfelt amazement.
If such a wound befell him, he wouldn’t be dead but would need to lie in bed for half a month. Yet, this big dog took less than a minute for its injury to mostly heal. If he didn’t kill it while it was weak, waiting for it to fully recover would make it a harder challenge. With this in mind, Zhao Liben gripped his broadsword tightly, ready to deliver a fatal blow to the strange beast.
"Finger Bind!" Just as Zhao Liben raised his sword high, an intense pain shot through his fingers. His long sword fell to the ground with a clatter. At some point, small sticks wrapped in inner power pierced between his fingers, squeezing tightly and causing him to break out in a cold sweat, crying out in agony.
Grasping his hands, Zhao Liben knelt on the ground and turned to find, sure enough, that damned Wei Tianhe, pressing a wound on his chest with one hand while using the other to direct his ability at him.
"Arrgh!" Zhao Liben roared, intending to crush the sticks between his fingers, but a big paw from the dog swatted at him before he could utter a scream, sending him flying.
Seeing Zhao Liben get swatted away, the dog-like creature’s furrowed brows finally relaxed. Having made a major decision, it locked its gaze onto Du Guangyuan again and lunged at him with bared teeth.
Du Guangyuan stared coldly at the creature charging at him, then glanced up at the gray-haired youth in the sky casually battling the high ranks of the Secret Prison. Letting out a cold laugh, he lowered his head and arms as if resigning to his fate.
"Awoo!" The creature opened its blood-red maw and bit into the resigned Du Guangyuan, shaking its head wildly from side to side. Before long, Du Guangyuan’s fragile body was torn in half; the creature tossed its head back and swallowed the upper half. Seemingly finding it hard to digest, it gagged and retched, extending a claw to disdainfully push aside the remaining half of Du Guangyuan’s corpse.
"Old man Du!" Zhao Liben, climbing back to his feet from the ground, shouted in dismay at the scene before him. It wasn’t that he had any deep feelings for Du Guangyuan, but watching a former colleague meet such a tragic end sparked a sense of shared fate, like the hare mourning the fox. Meanwhile, he wondered how someone as impressive and mighty as the old man, who seemed so invincible on ordinary days, could be finished off after just a few blows. What a damned silver spear with a pewter tip!
He then looked upwards. Liang Guangsheng, who had been swapped in by Wang Yiyi, had no news ever since entering the Jiezhi Space. And neither Wang Xishu nor Wang Yiyi had made their way in yet, likely caught up with troublesome opponents. The situation was increasingly unfavorable for their side. The whole force of the Divine Desire Organization had come out only to end up like this? Utterly laughable!
It seemed like a good time to make a getaway. The organization suffering such a loss wasn’t his fault, and any accountability couldn’t fall on him. Hmph! In the aftermath? Who knew what would become of the Divine Desire Organization afterward! Prioritizing his life was key!
After deliberating, Zhao Liben checked the big dog that killed Du Guangyuan again, which was rolling in the mud, ignoring him. Seeing an opportunity, he didn’t think twice and turned to flee.
However, after only running a few steps, his left foot suddenly twisted and got stuck in a mire he couldn’t pull free from. Looking down, he saw a tattered fishing net emerging from the mud, trapping him.
Zhao Liben gritted his teeth and looked back, unsurprised to see that persistent Wei Tianhe, holding his slowly healing wound and sneering at him.
"Damn! Wei! Remember, leave a way out for others to meet again! Don’t push things to the absolute limit!" Zhao Liben, not eager to continue fighting, swung his blade to cut the fishing net binding his left foot, growling resentfully.
"The face has been torn; it’s either you or me today! Plans have long been made for your superiors. Die or surrender, none of you will walk away from this alive today!" Wei Tianhe spat a bloody glob on the ground, responding resolutely.
"Hmph! Fine! Fine! Damn, if the tiger doesn’t show its power, you think I’m a sick cat! You thought I spared your life because I’m afraid of you! Today, I’ll kill you first and then leave!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the two engaged in a ferocious battle once more.
Just then, Pei Yan and others leaped out of the Jiezhi Space. On one side, celestial beings were fighting fiercely in the sky, while below, Zhao and Wei were locked in a life-and-death struggle. As they assessed the situation, three figures descended from the heavens in a beam of light.
Ye Jiumu, looking at the gracefully descending Ye Ruozai, exclaimed in surprise, "Brother! How come you’re here?"
Following the sound, Pei Yan saw Ye Ruozai with his disheveled hair and slightly battered appearance land steadily before everyone. With a casual flick, he tossed the comatose Wang Xishu, bound in a confinement ring, onto the muddy ground. Behind him was a young man, about his age, with a baby face and loose curly hair, wearing casual clothes. The young man kept yawning, bleary-eyed, and swayed as if he could fall asleep at any moment.
"Since the day you got attacked, I’ve been assigned to escort the Secret Prison’s Jiezhi Space with the convoy and unexpectedly stumbled upon him!" Ye Ruozai explained while tying his hair into a bun at the back of his head.
Pei Yan bent down, checking Wang Xishu’s barely detectable breathing, and looked up to ask in confusion, "Did you apprehend him alone?"
"You could say that. He was quite injured before, so it took some effort!" Ye Ruozai said with a smile, glossing over the matter lightly.
’Some effort?’ Pei Yan knew from Ye Jiumu that his brother, though a twin, had awakened earlier and progressed rapidly. Even so, he should only be at the peak of Tier Four. To face a Tier Six Awakened and merely find it ’some effort?’ At least someone like Shangxing in the same Tier couldn’t achieve that.
To think this man was only about four years older than him, Pei Yan felt his blood boil with excitement. Praised by the likes of Xia Yu and others, he hoped to witness just how strong he truly was.
Ye Ruozai, unaware of the thoughts his words inspired in Pei Yan, turned to introduce the young man beside him, "This is Zheng Jia Ru from the military, here with me on this mission..."
Before he could finish, Zheng Jia Ru suddenly staggered, his head falling forward! Having anticipated this scene, Ye Ruozai stepped up to support him by the shoulders. Zheng Jia Ru leaned into him, snoring away.
"Sorry! You know, Captain, his ability drains a lot of stamina. After a high-intensity fight, he turns into this." Ye Ruozai explained apologetically while holding Zheng Jia Ru.
Familiar with Zheng Jia Ru, Shangxing nodded understandingly before inquiring, "No worries, by the way! Earlier, a female expert broke out of Jiezhi Space and fled. Did you see her?"
"Saw her, and sorry, I let her get away. Her ability was too weird. Once I noticed something was off, she kept fleeing. I couldn’t stop her. By the way, what happened to the metal-playing Red Hair who fought me?" Upon hearing this, Zheng Jia Ru strained to open his eyes, stood straight, and wiped the drool from the corner of his mouth before asking.
