Gu Shenghui stared at Pei Yan in front of him, who now looked completely different. The immaturity from when he first joined the investigation department was gone, along with his previous anxiety and anger. Although the fighting spirit within him was still surging, Gu Shenghui understood that Pei Yan's mind was now settled.
Seeing this, Gu Shenghui nodded in satisfaction and said, "Director Mei has woken up, and the combat arena specially set up for you is ready. Do you want to see him first or start your training?"
"I'll go see Director Mei first! Once combat training starts, it will be a long process," Pei Yan thought for a moment and replied.
Fifteen minutes later, Pei Yan appeared in the hospital ward of the army. Mei Simiao lay on the bed and struggled to sit up when he saw Pei Yan enter. Seeing his effort, Pei Yan quickly stepped forward and helped him up.
"It was my oversight regarding your sister's situation. It's really unfortunate that she got so seriously injured at such a critical moment." Mei Simiao leaned on the pillow, looking at Pei Yan apologetically and with guilt.
"My sister explained everything on the phone. She understands the difficulties of the investigation department and is grateful for the protection it has provided to her and my family for so long. Now that things have happened, I'm here to discuss the rescue plan for my sister with you." Pei Yan sighed, speaking in a calm, firm tone.
Mei Simiao nodded slightly and responded, "Alright, feel free to tell me your thoughts or ask any questions! I'll try my best to answer them."
Pei Yan didn't respond verbally but rather looked at Gu Shenghui, who was standing by the bedside. Feeling Pei Yan's gaze, Gu Shenghui initially pretended not to notice, but as time went by, Pei Yan showed no sign of backing down. Feeling unsettled by the stare, Gu Shenghui coughed awkwardly, pointed at the ward door and said grumpily, "I'll take a stroll. You two talk! Talk it out."
That conversation between Pei Yan and Mei Simiao lasted a full hour and a half. During that time, Gu Shenghui returned to the ward entrance several times, wanting to enter, but was stopped by Mei Simiao's firm gaze from the bed through the window.
After the conversation ended, Pei Yan walked out of the ward, meeting Gu Shenghui, who was waiting anxiously at the end of the corridor. Gu Shenghui quickly stepped forward and asked, "Are you done talking?"
"Yes, we're done."
Upon hearing Pei Yan's words, Gu Shenghui said nothing further, pushed past Pei Yan, and entered the ward. Pei Yan simply leaned quietly against the ward door, pulling out a cigar and sniffing it. Not long after, an argument broke out between Mei and Gu from inside the ward. After a while, Gu Shenghui stormed out, looked at Pei Yan, who was enjoying the cigar, and snatched it angrily, shouting, "Alright, quite capable! You convinced Mei Simiao to keep it a secret! What exactly did you discuss?"
"Gu Chu, this matter is too important and confidential. The fewer people who know, the better," Pei Yan replied nonchalantly, rubbing his nose.
Gu Shenghui's mouth twitched in anger, and he laughed out of frustration, "You're telling me it's confidential?"
"Of course, as it concerns both my sister's and my life." Pei Yan looked Gu Shenghui straight in the eyes, not backing down at all.
They stared at each other for a while before Gu Shenghui finally nodded and no longer pressed the issue, asking instead, "Alright, you have your reasons. So what are you planning to do next? Training?"
"Yes! If possible, I want to start training as soon as possible!"
Half an hour later, in the Jiezhi Space amidst the mountains, Pei Yan caressed the bamboo groves nearby and marveled, "I didn't expect you could actually do it."
"This is the mountain terrain created as per your request. Ordinary Jiezhi Spaces can't handle such complex terrain changes. This is one of the few spaces in the department capable of simulating world fragments," introduced Elder Lin, standing next to a still gloomy Gu Shenghui.
Pei Yan turned his head toward Elder Lin and asked excitedly, "So, no problem if I damage the terrain?"
"No problem at all. After the battle, everything here will be restored as before. If you have any other requirements, feel free to ask. We can also switch to other terrains for you," explained Yao Xuefang from the equipment department. After she finished speaking, her eyes gleamed with a hint of killing intent as she gritted her teeth, "As long as you can help the department find a trace of Mu Fanchen, whatever equipment need you have, just ask! Our department will fully support you!"
Unaware of Yao Xuefang's deep hatred for Mu Fanchen, Pei Yan did not catch the murderous intent in her words and nodded in satisfaction, "I'm ready! We can start!"
Just as he finished speaking, a figure slowly emerged from the depths of the bamboo forest, walking to Pei Yan's side and looking him up and down lazily, "Why choose me? There are many candidates! Ye Ruozai, Jiang Donghu, Liu..."
Before he could finish, Pei Yan interrupted him with a smile, "But I think you're the most suitable for me."
"Stop saying things so ambiguously. I heard from above that you just forcefully broke through the third-level awakening yesterday. Impressive! You've broken the record for the fastest post-awakening promotion in both the department and the army. The previous record holder was me!" Zheng Jia Ru yawned lazily, "So I'm a bit annoyed about that. I've only ever had others spar with me, never sparred for someone else. During the battle, I won't hold back!"
"No need. I just want you to go all out!" Pei Yan's eyes shone with a blazing desire for battle.
"Very well!" Satisfied with Pei Yan's condition, Zheng Jia Ru shook his shoulders and slapped his cheek hard. The sleepiness in his eyes instantly turned sharp as he backed away to put some distance between them and said, "I know your abilities and level. Fighting like this would be unfair to you, so to make training more interesting, I'll tell you one of my abilities and awakening level. My ability aligns with humans, and unluckily for you, I've also just completed a breakthrough and reached the fifth-level awakening."
"Human? What kind of ability is that?" Pei Yan, who was already preparing for battle, stood frozen, puzzled by the statement.
"Rather than saying human, call it superhuman!" Zheng Jia Ru stretched and patiently explained, "My ability is to break through the limits of the human body. Any training I undergo only adds to my progress rather than becoming futile, which means my potential is limitless." Finally, he smiled at Pei Yan, "Do you understand what I mean?"
Pei Yan pondered for a moment, nodding thoughtfully and then shaking his head in disbelief, "Are you saying there's no limit to training your body? How is that possible?"
"It is as it is, but of course, it doesn't mean I can improve a lot at once. Otherwise, my body wouldn't handle it. But as long as I progress step by step, my body can keep becoming stronger and stronger. Perhaps it has a limit, but for now, I haven't felt it." Follow current novels on NovᴇlFɪre.nᴇt
After listening to Zheng Jia Ru's words, Pei Yan fell into deep thought. The other side was indeed monstrous. Normal training for people, no matter how diligent, would always hit the body's limits. Later, no matter how much one increased training, the body wouldn't change anymore and could even cause injury and hidden issues. If his ability is truly limitless as he said, then given enough time and training, couldn't he become invincible?
