CHAPTER 407: CHAPTER 407 INTELLIGENCE EXCHANGE (REQUEST SUBSCRIPTION)
"Haha, the Disaster Legion." Pei Yan couldn’t help but chuckle after hearing Sifuer’s words.
Sifuer’s face showed anger, eyes fierce with displeasure as he said, "Why? Do you find my words amusing? Or do you think we are weak because even the lowest of slaves have us struggling?"
Pei Yan quickly waved his hands, explaining, "No, not at all. I just find the term ’Disaster Legion’ a bit too dramatic, so I couldn’t hold back my laughter. It’s absolutely not meant to belittle you."
"I don’t understand what’s so funny about it!" Sifuer sneered and turned to the endless swarm outside, sighing, "We really couldn’t think of a better term than ’disaster’ to describe them. Anyway, now’s not the time for this. I’m here to see if we can collaborate to escape. There’s a shelter where we can survive the Red Scourge."
Pei Yan thought for a moment and replied solemnly, "Not just yet. But I can let you enter the center of my defensive formation to protect your safety, though I need to linger a bit longer."
"Why? To collect intelligence? We can exchange information afterwards. These slaves are low-level beings with little intelligence value!" Sifuer’s eyes widened in surprise at the peculiar man before him.
"Uh, it’s personal and inconvenient to explain!" Pei Yan replied vaguely.
"I didn’t expect your organization to send an arrogant person for reconnaissance. You could get us killed. You feel relaxed now because their commander hasn’t arrived yet, but based on timing, they’ll soon be here. Then you’ll face increasingly stronger waves of attacks, and won’t have a chance to escape. Sorry, we’re leaving. I won’t lead my team to die alongside a madman." Sifuer coldly looked at Pei Yan, slowly closing the scale armor on his face, his eyes turning back to red.
After Sifuer’s explanation, Pei Yan was moved. He consulted with Lin Junzhao within his body, and received a response: keep absorbing, you’re here to train, take risks, and experience hardships in battle to rapidly improve your strength in a short time.
Pei Yan nodded in agreement but then reconsidered and called out to the departing Sifuer. Seeing Sifuer’s puzzled gaze, he said, "Let your companions enter my formation. I’ll escort you to the swarm’s edge. I’ll leave a means of contact on you, which will self-destruct if I’m captured or die, so you don’t need to worry about being tracked by others. I’ll find you after handling things here, how about that?"
Sifuer stared at Pei Yan for a long time before shaking his head with a bitter smile, "I don’t know where you got the confidence to think you can break through in this battle. Although I doubt you’ll survive, your current proposal benefits us, and I have no reason to refuse. I agree!"
After agreeing on everything, Sifuer said no more, turned around, and stepped out of the mechanical defense circle, signaling his companions to enter the defensive formation. Inside the formation, after brief communication, everyone directed their gazes at Pei Yan, with a male Hell Realm creature whispering a few words into Sifuer’s ear before stopping.
Sifuer nodded and approached Pei Yan, removing the scale armor with a forced smile, "Can we leave now?"
"Yes! Just point the direction, I’ll escort you out!" Pei Yan agreed readily.
Sifuer glanced back at his companions who nodded to her, then turned back and asked, "Can I ask one last question or make a request before we leave?"
"Go ahead."
"Can you tell me why you can fly close to the Red Scourge without being affected?" Sifuer gazed at Pei Yan with a look of urgency and curiosity, clearly eager for an answer.
Pei Yan was startled for a moment, then understood what she meant by the Red Scourge. He pointed to the sky, "You mean that?" Seeing her nod, he pondered for a bit and replied with a bitter smile, "I’m not sure myself. I only know that I personally shouldn’t be able to enter it. As for why I’m unaffected, perhaps it’s because I’m an Esper from the cornerstone dimension, different from you."
"No, it has nothing to do with you being from that dimension!" Sifuer immediately denied, continuing, "Though we don’t interact with outsiders as frequently as the other three dimensions, there’s still contact. People from other dimensions have settled here, and when disasters hit, all external spatial connections are blocked, they’re forcibly stranded here, severely affected by the Red Scourge. My uncle said, the energy within Espers from your cornerstone dimension all comes from other dimensions, there’s no reason they remain unaffected!"
Pei Yan’s eyes lit up, realizing there’s more to this. It’s valuable intelligence, with only his world’s origin unaffected by the so-called Red Scourge’s suppression. What could the connection be? Thinking about it, Pei Yan instinctively questioned Lin Junzhao within, only to receive prolonged silence.
Pei Yan knew the other person was playing ostrich again. With no choice, he quickly came up with a story, "Actually, I hid something from you, I’m an Esper and a cyborg?"
"Cyborg?" Sifuer asked, puzzled.
"Yes, in your terms, it’s turning people into puppets, but we use technology!" Saying this, Pei Yan pointed to his left eye for Sifuer to see, then removed his left mechanical arm to hand it over.
Sifuer was shocked, observing the eyeball unlike a human’s, then watching as he detached his arm and regrew a mechanical one, falling into a dazed state.
Pei Yan seized the moment to continue, "I use Esper-assisted tech energy, which minimizes the influence I receive, probably."
"My mother showed me pictures where you still use outdated knives and swords, weak Demon Spears. You can now make such powerful weapons? Are those Steel Puppets and the attacks they launch what you call tech?" Sifuer examined the mechanical arm closely, after confirming it was metallic with no signs of life, she seemed convinced.
"Yes, exactly!"
"Maybe you’re on the right path. If you had an army of thousands of Steel Puppets, we might win this war!" Sifuer raised her head, her face full of excitement.
