Chapter 487 487: A Victory in the First Battle (Seeking Subscriptions)
The streaks of light shining brilliantly in the sunlight grew increasingly numerous as they soared through the sky. Even the Disaster Legion, preparing for another assault, sensed something was amiss, and their offensive gradually slowed, swiftly transitioning into a defensive formation.
Despite witnessing Pei Yan suffer a major setback, ambushed by the Disaster Spreaders in the Bull Territory, and speculating that he would not let it go and would return for revenge, Leohard couldn't help but twitch his lips at the sight of the massive iron wall descending from the sky like the bottom of an overturned bowl.
Boom! The tremendous impact caused the ground to tremble and kicked up a cloud of dust. Under Xia Yu's control, a sturdy iron wall, wide and low at the mouth like the bottom of a gouged-out sea bowl, solidly enclosed the Disaster Legion's camp, separating most of the Disaster Spreaders and Armored Warriors with its hard surface.
Suspended in the air, Pei Yan scanned the battlefield. This battle was indeed brutal. Leohard's forces had fewer than four hundred survivors left, while the pursuing Disaster Legion had also been significantly depleted, with only about a hundred and seventy to eighty remaining.
Both sides were already at their wit's end, and the final outcome would likely be mutual annihilation on this battlefield. Yet, neither showed any intention of retreat, disregarding life and death, and continued to wield their weapons, harvesting each other's lives.
As the main instigator of this battle, Pei Yan felt both the cruelty of war and a sense of melancholy over the lack of control over one's life. Today, he was controlling others' fates, but would someone control his life in the future?
Shaking his head, he knew he had no time to indulge in sentiments. With a wave of his hand, over a hundred mechanical drones roared past him, heading straight for the bottom of Xia Yu's bowl.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Explosions erupted within the bowl one after another. The mechanical drones unleashed an almost frenzied storm of metal, electromagnetic cannon fire, and barrage shooting, driving the Disaster Spreaders trying to leap out back into the bowl.
Watching the Disaster Spreaders, pierced by bullets, fall one after another, Pei Yan felt a sense of satisfaction from avenging his great vendetta, yet he was also taken aback by the opponent's formidable defense. Setting aside their nearly perverse physical defense, these Disaster Spreaders clumped together when attacked, raising their hands skyward to release layers of viscous scarlet liquid to form a barrier above them, which effectively weakened Pei Yan's attacks.
Unfortunately for them, their numbers were too few, the defense they formed was ultimately limited, and, coupled with Pei Yan's densely fierce firepower, they suffered a complete wipeout in the end.
Looking at the iron wall reddened by the intense heat and the billowing smoke inside, Leohard realized that these Disaster Spreaders were entirely dealt with. Seeing this, he grinned slightly and said, "This guy is much more likable as an ally!"
After saying these words, he turned around, observed his subordinates, and arrogantly said, "Our ally has arrived to support us now. Can we face them like this as warriors of the Demon Race?"
"No!" The exhausted Demon Race soldiers stood up, leaning on their weapons, responding with uneven slogans. This victory should belong to them, as they had fought hard to this point.
"Yes, victory belongs to the Demon God! To the Kataraga Autonomous Territory!" Leohard raised his longsword and charged towards the Disaster Legion's camp first.
"Victory belongs to the Demon God! To the Kataraga Autonomous Territory!"
Black and red streams of iron clashed once more, yet this time the remnants of the Disaster Legion failed to display their previous valor. As the two armies were about to collide, a sudden heavy pressure interrupted their charge. Some stumbled and fell to the ground, while others were pressed directly into the soil.
A long spear pierced through an Armored Warrior's head. Demon Race warriors, their bodies swelling and horns burning red, unleashed their full potential, harvesting the Armored Warriors' lives under dense and precise firepower. This group of Armored Warriors, who'd fought fiercely for most of the day and then suffered a sneak attack, could only unleash a disgruntled roar to the sky. Judging by the increasingly reddening hue of their bodies, they seemed poised to make a final counterattack before their demise.
However, Pei Yan didn't give them that chance. After loudly ordering Leohard and the others to retreat, six full-power electromagnetic cannons fired upon the battlefield.
After the smoke cleared, within the trenches created by the impact lay the dismembered bodies of Armored Warriors. Despite such severe damage, four or five were still scattered, struggling to stand from the craters on shaky legs.
Pei Yan didn't glance at them, flying directly above Leohard and said coldly, "Clean up the battlefield thoroughly, then you can join the main force. I am heading to assist your lord now!"
"As you command, Lord Shitang!" Leohard bowed deeply, responding sincerely to the fulfillment of Pei Yan's promise today and his demonstrated strength and power. The Demon Race should grant the greatest respect to strong allies.
After giving orders here, Pei Yan did not disturb his companions, who were still absorbing the energy released after the Armored Warriors' deaths. Exchanging a glance with Ye Ruozai, he set off for the main battlefield where Sifuer was.
Receiving the order, Leohard led his subordinates with a grin, wielding their weapons towards the enemies in the pit.
Just as they were about to deliver the killing blow, Pei Yan, who had initially flown away, returned, standing before Leohard and, after a moment of thought, commanded, "Do not kill them, capture them alive!"
"Why?" Leohard, who had already raised his sword, asked puzzledly. Captives? This term had disappeared from the Demon Race's vocabulary after starting all-out war with the Disaster Legion. Although the Disaster Legion occasionally captured members of the Demon Race for unknown reasons, the Demon Race side, being at a disadvantage and bearing deep grievances, rarely left anyone alive after each battle.
"Just capture them alive! Why ask so much? This will be crucial for our future combat victories! Can you do it?" Pei Yan demanded sternly.
Never having received such an order, Leohard was at a loss. Judging from Pei Yan's tone, he knew it was no joke. Considering Pei Yan's various mysterious methods, perhaps capturing these prisoners would indeed serve an important role. With this in mind, he reluctantly said, "We can choose not to kill them, but we can't prevent them from committing suicide. Ending their lives requires only a thought. If our structure were intact, the Magicians could suppress their reactions and capture them alive! But now, we simply can't do that!"
"Ah! I see!" Pei Yan nodded, waved his hand, and ceased hindering Leohard from dealing with the injured. Apparently, to capture some prisoners for detailed study, he needed to proceed towards the direction of the main battlefield. With his mind made up, Pei Yan took off once more, heading into the dense forest.
