Chapter 541 541: Snowflakes Falling (Seeking Subscription)
Upon hearing this, Pei Yan rolled his eyes in anger and retorted, "Do you think such techniques are as common as cabbages? I'm not fully recovered yet and can't perform them. Even if I were, using them here could cause problems in Snow Peak Territory—will you resolve them? Sacrifice! Sacrifice! I'm an outsider, I can treat them as sacrifices! But you? They're still your kin! Sacrifice! Hmph! Even if you send them out as sacrifices, make sure they die with meaning, understand? Get out, you fool! Don't appear in front of me again!"
The controller, who had been reprimanded, blushed and clenched his fists, ready to retaliate. But upon seeing the killing intent in Pei Yan's exposed mysterious right eye during battle and recalling scenes from that day in the tent, he wisely chose silence.
"Didn't you hear Mr. Shitang's words? Get off the hill and don't appear before the master again during the entire battle! Didn't you also hear Mr. Shitang's orders just now? Bailang, follow his directions!" Samikina sharply commanded.
The controller, being granted a way out, bowed and saluted before disappearing with Bailang atop the hill. Pei Yan couldn't be bothered to argue with such people; he pressed his headset to change channels and began communicating with Jiang Feiyang. "Old Jiang! How's it going over there?"
"Over here, the enemy army has fully mobilized! Without your orders, I'm not daring to move." Jiang Feiyang's voice replied through the headset.
"Immediately blow up the Disaster Pillar, and then don't worry about anything else—withdraw immediately. Head to the other three locations and set up the planned artillery positions. Remember to prioritize the positions in the direction of Bern Lake. Once completed, quickly come to join me—your assistance is needed for the general attack. And don't forget to put Xiaoka on the line!"
"Understood! The side meant for communication with you!" After Jiang Feiyang agreed, a piercing screech followed, and Catherine's standard Northeast accent, influenced by her parents, came through: "What do you want?"
"Cough, cough!" The sudden regional accent made Pei Yan cough dryly as he suppressed his laughter and ordered, "After completing the task of destroying the Disaster Pillar, don't come to join me directly; use the Teleportation Mirror to go to the junction area. Your firepower support is needed there."
"Got it, I know!"
After ending the call, Pei Yan sat on the chair. Two and a half hours had passed since the destruction of the first Disaster Pillar. Although the enemies reacted faster than during the Bull Territory incident, it was within expectations. As he pondered, another series of cannon blasts came from afar. Pei Yan turned to see flames rising from the other side of the mountain—it seemed Jiang Feiyang and company had taken action. Amidst the rumbling of the cannons, a mountain wind blew past Pei Yan's face, making it feel cold. Looking up, snow had unexpectedly begun to fall during the endless dark night.
Staring at the large falling snowflakes, Pei Yan stretched out his hand to catch the snow, watching it slowly melt into a puddle in his palm. At this moment, his previously restless heart suddenly became calm. The familiar regional accent and falling snowflakes reminded him of his hometown. He wondered how his parents were doing, and this thought brought a self-deprecating smile to his face, reminding him of the movie scenes where soldiers thought of home before heading into battle and then sacrificed themselves—he wondered if this counted as raising a flag.
Returning to his thoughts, the cold wind jolted Pei Yan's spirit. He slapped his cheeks to boost himself and quickly mechanized his movements, advancing to Samijana and solemnly stating, "I'm still worried; I want to go to the front line and take a look. If something unexpected happens, I can respond."
"You should rest well and not carry everything on your shoulders. You are more critical for the upcoming battles. Rest well and prepare to face it in your best condition. Leave the front-line matters to us." Just then, Pei Yan felt a weight on his shoulders, followed by Elder Lin's steady and reliable voice from behind.
"Mr. Samikina, please send a few people to lead us to the front line," Gu Shenghui said as he led the group past Pei Yan to join Samikina.
"With pleasure." Samikina gestured for them to proceed. He then signaled, and a Guard Commander led the Personal Guard forward. After receiving the orders, they took Gu Shenghui and others into the vast snow-covered night.
Watching the group's disappearing backs, Pei Yan obediently sat cross-legged on the ground with a smile, knowing that although Gu Shenghui often played tricks on him, he could be reliable at critical moments.
As Pei Yan issued orders and Gu Shenghui proceeded to the front lines, fierce battles erupted at the junction of Bern Lake. Initially, the Magma Insects destroyed the first wave of buried Demon Fire Thunder, and then swarms of enslaved armies flooded in like tides.
Standing before them was an iron defense line, a mix of magic alloy and real steel. Atop the high battlements, Demon Race veterans donned heavy armor, extending their hands with star disks gleaming in their palms. Under the captain's command, they systematically launched magic attacks towards the city below.
"Is the No-fly Zone set up yet?" Kodwen asked, looking at the map on the table as he listened to his subordinate's report inside the city.
"We're still constructing it!"
"Why is it still under construction?" Kodwen raised his bloodshot eyes angrily.
"Legion Commander, our pioneering team consists of veteran soldiers this time. Specialized warlocks only arrived with Lord Samikina's second wave of reinforcements, and construction requires time!" The accompanying military adviser reminded him.
"Tell them to speed up the construction and ensure it's done before the Red Armored Warriors arrive, or this hastily established defense line will be in vain!" Kodwen angrily struck the table with his fist.
Suddenly, another series of violent explosions erupted outside. Kodwen listened and sternly asked, "What is happening outside?"
The messenger quickly ran outside and returned moments later to report, "Two battalions atop the city walls were excited by battle and recklessly used the Demon Fire Thunder, causing explosions below."
"Reckless! How can old soldiers still make such mistakes? Using Demon Fire on low-level enslaved soldiers isn't wasteful? Who are their captains? Replace them immediately!" Trusting in weighty responsibility and walking a fine line, Kodwen's temper was exceedingly short-tempered. After hearing the report, he shouted in anger.
"Legion Commander, you should understand these old soldiers have long been away from the battlefield. Today may be their last battle; it's inevitable they're emotionally unstable," the military adviser quickly approached to softly advise Kodwen.
Hearing this, Kodwen's expression darkened, and he sighed, waving dismissively, "Transmit my order to severely reprimand the captains of these two battalions and strictly order the other defense line captains not to use Demon Fire Thunder without my command!"
"Yes!" Just as the messenger rushed out, another messenger hurriedly entered the command tent, shouting, "Report! Two foreign aids from the Investigation Hall are constructing the final defense line. The reinforcement from Du Le's division has received orders and reached our rear to intercept enemy forces advancing from Snow Peak Territory."
